Citricsquid has the right of it. PHPBB was simply never intended to function on this scale. It's great for smaller sites who want lots of customization options and don't have a huge amount of load but it really doesn't scale well at the upper end of things.
Sure the fact that it's open source means you can go back and hack away at it all you want, but when the problems you need to fix are core design issues, well it's usually easier to start fresh or at least with something that closer matches what you actually need if it's available.
The other thing is that PHPBB doesn't have good organizational features for some specific types of things we do here. I am hoping that whatever they ARE working on has some nice support for better categorizing mods, texture packs, severs and the like.

If cosmicspore WANTS to work on this forum so that search works, maybe even just for a day, I think you ought to let him. Of course, I'm not 100% sure he does, so he can only speak for himself. But simply waiting and using a long time making a new forum, you couldve used an extremely small fraction of that time on the search feature.
But, once again, if cosmicspore wants to help, you definately should let him :smile.gif:

Just saying, it's extremely demotivational for me to browse the forums without the "View your posts" function - it was the best way of keeping track of the threads that interest me...
I've probably spent less than a couple of minutes on these forums in the last week because of the lack of search.
Without the search, it's just too much of a mess.
I've probably missed several threads that would have interested me, but there's no way I'm searching through the mire to find them.
I hope that whoever it is that makes money from these forums isn't relying on advertising revenue.
There's a lot of people put off by the lack of forum search, and I'm sure that their figures show that.

So when can we expect curse to fix it then? I find google search very unreliable when you have many threads...
I don't think we would have these forums if Curse hadn't taken over, honestly. But that's my opinion. Running a forum that gets over 1,000 posts in just 5 hours, with this many members, is going to cost a lot of money. These forums generate one of the largest portions of Curse's traffic in all of the sites that they host, so I'd say that we're priority. They're most likely focused on getting us upgraded, though, so everyone can have a better experience.
I can categorically state the forum would not be online now if curse had not come and acquired it. The work required to keep the servers online was beyond what any of us could provide as a hobby. Yes things are slow to change, but that's because a huge number of things are changing. After we move to IPB everything will be fixed (touch wood) and for now we just have to deal with the problems. It's not much longer.

how long does it take to fix the search function? I mean, we are the biggest forum controlled by curse arn't we? what else could they be doing for the last couple of weeks. And the bbcode being down makes me question the validity of curse. I mean is that going to take weeks to renable too?
I'm sure if there was any easy way to fix it you would have, but it just makes me angry.
