I can categorically state the forum would not be online now if curse had not come and acquired it. The work required to keep the servers online was beyond what any of us could provide as a hobby. Yes things are slow to change, but that's because a huge number of things are changing. After we move to IPB everything will be fixed (touch wood) and for now we just have to deal with the problems. It's not much longer.

Moving to IP board? *shudders*

Take a look at how phpbb works, you'll agree it's terrible. No large site uses phpbb with out either dedicating ridiculous amounts of resources to it or has modified it. the best example of why it sucks: phpbb loads the stylesheet for the theme from the database, wtf? We have over 80,000,000 page views per month to the forum alone, we handle incredible amounts of traffic, more so than 99% of websites.

These guys make awesome art for Mods (Items, New Blocks and Mobs)

I'm Starting to be known as a Balancer, A.K.A. I'm starting to become pessimist

Wow.
Just, wow.
I am amazed, citric; you're a twit. I offered MONTHS ago (edit: specifically, November 2nd 2010) to share my customization that generates a static stylesheet from what style.php generates to help curb load (and I was even willing to provide the diff file itself!), and you specifically declined the offer.
For reference: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=74544
You had a solution presented to you, you turned it down. That load problem is your fault.

You think phpBB is bad with load? You've got another thing coming with IP.Board; if anything you should be looking at a more contained solution, not the kitchen-sink application lineup.
Their PHP-side coding is utterly terrible, I've done some personal benchmarking of it and it's as efficient as driving a brick. I noticed that it had nearly double the memory use (comparing on the exact same localhost setup, parallel directories, with apache worker/mod_php/mysql/no opcache), and SQL queries are used in a spray-and-pray fashion throughout.
I haven't handled the servers since August 2009. I passed on the information you provided, it has nothing to do with me whether or not it's used. Sorry...
Nope, next would be everything moved to the new forums, or so i heard.
Yeah, apparently its going to ip board... I HATE IP BOARD. Its like a stripper pole, it looks shiny and cool from a distance but when viewed up close it just smells like poop and sadness -The Benson Interruption, the worst show on earth

Your friendly neighborhood dragon. Don't be scared, I won't bite!
I am here for you, Don't be afraid to send me a message.
Trust me, once you see ip board you wont like it... The chatbox and reputation system are quite a good addition but the way the index page looks and how complicated it is to manage wont make anything easier. The search is ****ed on ip board too... its like its just choosing random posts that dont even relate to what I searched!

So you've already seen the exact implementation of the IPS software we're going to be using? That's funny, because not even the staff has seen it yet.
What I mean is that there are many different customizations and plugins and all other bells and whistles to be had. Just because you don't like one forum's implementation of the software doesn't mean you won't like another, unless you're just anti-IPS, or anti-change. I doubt we'll have the chatbox installed, though. The forum is way too active for that and it would be way too hard to handle.

True that, true that... Anyways, do you know if they are they getting a standard license or a business license?
Since it seems unlikely that the forum search will be re-enabled, perhaps some tips could be put together for using google search better? Google works fine and dandy for finding assorted threads that are relevant to the subject you are looking for, but it sucks at finding specific posts/threads by specific users.
Basically what I want to know is if there's any method currently available for simulating Egosearch. Failing that, could we change the thread icons so that threads that a person has already posted in stand out a little better?
I post in a lot of threads, and I liked being able to follow up to any responses people might have made. That's become prohibitive now. Even if I started bookmarking every suggestion I post in, it still wouldn't do me any good for the massive number of threads I've already posted in.

Wow... so $250 and $60 per six month renewal PLUS the monthly fee to keep the website up and running (if they even have to)
This forum costs 10s of thousands of dollars to maintain already, I doubt $60 is going to matter.
Yes.
