Your Computer Specs and Operating System: Mac OS x 10.5.8, 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM
Can you repeat this bug: Every time
What issues does the bug Cause: Unplayable past initial terrain generation
Specific conditions it occurs in if applicable: I can use the main menu system just fine. But as soon as I create a new world, it does it's thing with generating the map. When it finishes, the screen goes black and crashes.
Your Computer Specs and Operating System: Win 7 Pro, Intel Core i7 Quad 2600K, 8GB RAM, nVidia geForce 570
Can you repeat this bug: Yes, every time I load my pre-1.8 savegame
What issues does the bug Cause: Initially, when I went to a specific point on the map the game crashed (with the "saving chunks" message). After that it crashed immediately after load. When I moved the player's location, using an editor, the game loaded but now it uses huge amounts of memory and is terribly slow (about 0.25 FPS).
Specific conditions it occurs in if applicable: N/A
Specific conditions it occurs in if applicable: After I create a new world (i've done both survival and creation) it loads up the game like normal, it then goes black screen for a few seconds, then flashes white very fast that has some text on it, too fast to make out what it says, it then goes back to black screen and stays black screen.
Please try to be more specific if possible. World version, if it's only the 'spawn' map, etc etc.
Ty to the other posters - updating now. :smile.gif:
I'm sorry. I am using my old World from 1.7 that was updated to 1.8 version today. I created a map near my original spawnpoint, then used fast nether travel to get to my new base with the 1.8 features (ravines, mineshafts, etc...). When I was there, I simply put my map on my inventory slot then held it and started running around: the weird thing is that the map keep blank and says "Map_0".
This should be a bug, I will try using the map in different locations ...
Same thing in Creative mode: the map just stays blank, no route marked in it ...

Very likely exp orbs, or the furnace bug, or the sheep-spawn-horde-bug. There's little you can do to my knowledge, and these are all fixed in 1.8 official.
Version: 1.8 SMP server. Brand new world generated in 1.8
PC: Windows 7, 4 gigs, running just the server with memory set to 1024. 95% free memory shown.
Bug: Massive performance hit when creating new chunks. I am not talking your normal lag strain for new chunks, we are talking 2-3 minutes of not being able to do anything. It also does it with just one person on the server.
Cause: Walking into new areas causes extreme performance hits, lagging the entire server out. As this is SMP when anyone walks anywhere new, it lags the whole lot out.
Further info: 1.7, 1.8 pre 1 and 2 did not have this effect on the exact same PC.

Can you test this in a fresh 1.8 world? Then we can safely say it's an issue with 1.7 to 1.8 :smile.gif:

having same issue. only diff is that i have 3gb ram. mine doesnt even finish generating a map though, it just does the sky (even when loading an existing world), stalls for a couple of seconds, then goes black after displaying some error screen for less than 1/10th of a second

Please post a proper report - even if it's the same bug, your hardware, etc, varies. So having more people with varying types of hardware posting the same bug, it helps rule out hardware as an issue making it easier to pin down. :smile.gif:
