I only ever used it to find caves while I was underground exploring. With it gone now I only have he sounds of mobs to work by, but it's not that big a deal to me, and I doubt it will be back any time soon anyhow.
IMO this was 1 of the best changes in the 1.8 update.
Using f3 to easily find unlit caves/dungeons was simply an exploit that needed to be fixed. It meant that any player who knew about it could quickly find every nearby dungeon on a SMP world. It also meant that you could never be surprized by a mob while using it, which obviously breaks the whole survival aspect of the game.
Yeah it sure was useful (and fun) to see if there are any zombies chilling by your door.
Yeah I mean in real life I have to open the console and type mat_wireframe 1 whenever anyone comes to my door so I know who it is before I open it. If only we had some real life solution which allowed us to see outside our houses without hacking the universe.
I can't say I see the point in it, I never used the function because I never needed to, you can easily build a house to circumvent it. Seems kinda like asking that falldamage be removed becase you keep running off the edge of cliffs. Rather than say, building a fence.
Guys, it was a debugging feature. That type of thing never lasts all the way to final release. Once things stabilize with the release versions, someone will certainly make a mod that will re-enable similar functions.
one less exploit in the game for players to use I say great sadly there still is tons of exploits that will prolly never be fixed. I play solely MP so ya don't give me that "option NOT to use" because there isn't if I didn't use it other players would have a clear advantage over anyone who didn't use it
I admit I used it to hunt/avoid animals/mobs
A little sad to see it go, but as someone pointed out above, it made minecrafters cowards. I agree, I used it more to avoid mobs than to confront them. my cave system was dug based on avoiding mob groups. Now the creep factor of hearing things in the walls and creepers sneaking up on me is back, and honestly I find the game enjoyment has increased. This is just me.
I know I can't trust my self not to click F3 if the feature was returned, so this is good - for me
