I loved how you could press "f3"and you would see where mobs were. 1.8 took this off. I only used it to see outside my house and in mines etc. I dont cheat but still want it back.
I figured it'd go away eventually so, while disappointed, I'm not surprised. And as much as I'd like to have it back, I'd settle for an item--like the compass--that points to the nearest monster. Some of the value of F3 would be restored, but still remain within the bounds of consistency with Minecraft mechanics.
Although I did use it on occasions, I'm glad it was taken out. I think it removed a little of the challenge in the game as well as the fear of not knowing what's round the next corner.
You know theres the option to not press it, right?
It was useful for catching all the stray mob spawns in unlit caves so mob traps work better.
Problem is that it was so easy to turn on any time you started hearing stuff in caves. Kinda trivialized caving. Caving has been more fun without it. Yea early on there's a high chance you'll get ambushed outside your doors but as you progress in the game that can be prevented.
I only hope that the feature of seeing coordinates won't go off.
It's very useful for building pairs of portals for long distance travelling.
Or at least we could use some stylized feature instead of it, as ugly as those

no it was never good. it makes Minecraft players a big coward.
Remind me, how do those cowards affect you again? Oh right, they don't. You know people actually 'cheat' in much worse ways than F3. Are you going to cry yourself to sleep?
I only ever used it to find caves while I was underground exploring. With it gone now I only have he sounds of mobs to work by, but it's not that big a deal to me, and I doubt it will be back any time soon anyhow.
Guys, it was a debugging feature. That type of thing never lasts all the way to final release. Once things stabilize with the release versions, someone will certainly make a mod that will re-enable similar functions.
one less exploit in the game for players to use I say great sadly there still is tons of exploits that will prolly never be fixed. I play solely MP so ya don't give me that "option NOT to use" because there isn't if I didn't use it other players would have a clear advantage over anyone who didn't use it
I admit I used it to hunt/avoid animals/mobs
A little sad to see it go, but as someone pointed out above, it made minecrafters cowards. I agree, I used it more to avoid mobs than to confront them. my cave system was dug based on avoiding mob groups. Now the creep factor of hearing things in the walls and creepers sneaking up on me is back, and honestly I find the game enjoyment has increased. This is just me.
I know I can't trust my self not to click F3 if the feature was returned, so this is good - for me

... ... Mushrooms are rather rapidly consuming my Nether.

What do you guys think
I know right!
Just for safety reasons

F3 is the debug display; don't expect anything there to be permanent.

Why do you care how other players choose to play? Minecraft is suppose to be a sandbox game. They're allowed to play however they want.
