Lately a lot of the discussion has come down to how realistic minecraft is becoming. So let's see, do most people prefer mind raft to represent the real world or do most people prefer a simple world with everthing at the player's disposal?
Just to sort of take a look at the recent updates, not everything in 1.8 has been realistic. Example: giant mushrooms that you can grow using old bones.
Realism? In Minecraft? In a game where I can punch down trees, leave cubic meters of solid stone floating in mid-air, and craft suits of armour from pure diamond with nothing but a workbench and my bare hands I don't think any discussion about realism in really relevant.
I do like the hunger system. Not because it realistic but because it makes the game a bit more challenging and makes food a bit more valuable.

Well said. lol
I however, do not care for the hunger bar. I think it would be much more simple if health depleted very slowly to encourage the use of food (which is presumably what the hunger system was implemented for).
