I think you can probably survive the same way, you just might have to be more careful. Only sprint when you have food available! You can find TONS of mushrooms in the mines, just keep a bowl with you and you can scrounge for food. Lots of dungeons and abandoned mine shafts now... Be careful of blue spiders though, especially if you play on anything above easy! But other than that you really should be okay. There is still a lot of food underground. You can even survive on zombie flesh if you have enough of it to combat the increased hunger(which you will, fighting zombies nonstop).. So zombies, mushrooms, occasional fish when desperate.. I think it's manageable :smile.gif: You'll never have to go to the surface or farm for things. If things start getting CRAZY just leave mushrooms in a dark cave for an emergency. it's technically farming, but so hands off. Just come back to store your stuff and suddenly you've got a ton of mushrooms!
Look. If you're that concerned about eating, we all know Dwarves love a good ale. So how about this? How about you go up to the surface to far- Sorry, grow a hops farm and brew Ale to bring down with you? Then chug and chug and you're a REAL dwarf. Think of the hunger meter as a drunk meter. If it's empty, you're too sober for your own good!
I don't think we really need to argue this point. Whether growing trees is farming or not, the point is he didn't want to go up to kill animals or farm wheat/actively farm mushrooms... So the point is done! We have an answer now on how to survive scrounging around like a true dwarf! :smile.gif: Everyone plays their own way, we just sometimes have to be a little creative about how to go about doing it!
Farming
Noun: The activity or business of growing crops and raising livestock.
You keep stating you are a "dwarf" and do not farm and 1.8 makes inevitable to live without farming but you were already farming before 1.8 and a wheat farm is no different then a tree farm or a mushroom farm, or a chicken farm, etc.
Therefor you entire argument in the Original post is invalid.

farming in minecraft is to be able to eat it. last time i checked you couldn't eat bark or leaves in minecraft.
You basically bought a game which clearly claimed the title of being about "Survival". If you don't like it, deal with it.
I'm not quite sure if you are very aware that Minecraft has a modding community (Clearly, I just made a very, very obvious statement). If you like to role-play sooo much as a Dwarf, find or just request a mod. It ain't too hard to ask.

So your sole ojection to farming is that it has edible results, which happens to be the only thing you need to do to survive? What a self-defeating definition.By which I mean a definition that defeats you, rather than a definition that counters itself. You are fine with farming trees for wood, but now that you might need to farm food to eat as well, it is suddenly an atrocity that you can't stand.

your not really getting the point, which is i farm wood because i want it for tools. food is not what i need, but now it is, and my point was that i think its stupid.

And you have a problem with eating everyday in real life too?
Now that my haters, is a response. Thank you.
Where were you getting wood from?
i have a tree grove using glowstone for a ceiling. It's not technically farming.
Ya its farming
Dwarves don't need wood! They use the bristles from their beards.
how so? what you said isn't really the point.
