as of now experience orbs do not do anything except fill up the green bar, but hopefully when 1.9 comes out they will actually do something and not drop every time you die
It's super annoying. It only causes more lag. It doesn't make players "scared" of dying, it just pisses them off. It pisses me off. Does anyone agree?
Hardcore Diablo II. Death causes you to lose everything in lots of games.
I'm very wary of skills/skillpoints from this leveling system. It could drastically (if not balanced carefully) alter the way the game plays. Death causing loss of said skills helps alleviate that some.

More Ocean Life: Kelp, Coral, Crabs and Jellyfish; Coconut Palm trees for beaches and islands. Terrain Generation Changes: Which biomes and world-building features are most in need of change?
So then you missed the part where Notch mentioned he had been inspired by roguelike games?
One of their main features is permadeath. Each time you die you start over from nothing.
At least in Minecraft you drop all your XP and stuff in one convenient spot when you die.
If the game is too hard for you just play on creative.
Thanks for saying what I was going to, I expected exp to just go away on death, and personally think dropping all of it is excessive, when the next bukkit rb is out i'm going to set it to remove half and drop the rest I think.
Have you ever played some older games on the NES or anything? Games weren't easy back then. They had actual challenge. Like Super Mario Land on my old Gameboy. I remember how if you died you started all the way back at the beginning. Now people cry if they don't reach the 5th checkpoint in the same level. I'm just saying that Minecraft is getting easier with every update, and its good to see that we can possibly see something more difficult coming into the game that isn't also a nuisance. Its not a use yet, but gaining experience should be more fun as time goes by when it actually has a purpose. :smile.gif:
Never mind it does absolutely nothing right now. He hasn't implemented anything other than it goes up and down. This causes you to be scared of dying? :mellow.gif:

That's just lame. Do I have to read this ridiculous and absurd argument on every thread? Really?
Just because you disagree about difficulty level doesn't mean you have to suggest they go on creative.
Alternatively, they could go on easy. That's why it exists. So that players who want some adventure but don't want a big challenge can do so. There's no reason whatsoever to suggest they leave adventuring altogether and go pure creative.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
SMP server, killed lots of Mobs. Apparently each orb is an entity... get thousands of them, insta-lag.
Solution: bigger valued orbs.
Ding!
I haven't seen this happen once, I've had several people play for days, four of us die at the same time, in different locations, no lag at all... Jens said he fixed the problem with exp orbs, I didn't see enough people on the server before 1.8.1 to know if it's any different, but this was before I remembered we got creative mode so we were fighting for survival every night, though I've noticed a double creeper hit seems to destroy some orbs, either that or they expire quicker than other items.
I don't understand how people get lag from XP bubbles. Have you allocated enough RAM to Minecraft?
I even registered to answer to you.
Now, when I'm writing that post for you, my minecraft is hardly in lags trying to get all expirience that i've losted.
I have 12Gb(Twelve Gigabyte) of RAM, Core i5 650. GeForce 8800 GTS.
Isn't that enough? I'm seraching through that forum to find a solution for that problem.
If you are playing for some time, experience is collecting in huge amounts.
I don't get why people keep complaining about this. If everyone has too much EXP, just deposit your items in a chest then sacrifice yourself in lava. Bam, no more experience orbs to cause you lag.

Is that normal?
And why I can't report about it? Isn't this game shareware and didn't I paid for it?
So for my money I want to play with comfort. I fully understand that this is beta. so that's why I'm reporting about that really annoying thing.

Cave story makes you loose all your EXP on death, or every time you get hit you lose exp.
unless you die because creepers bug out and you can get back to your stuff....
but its so easy to get the xp back I don't know why you are complaining unless you are playing on peaceful and dont have any mobs to kill.
