Oh, in which case I apologize. I was mocking the argument as well, didn't you see?
Someone needs to make that creeper bomber idea a reality.
I forgive you. Poe's Law bites us all from time to time.
Totally agreed on the bomber and still curious about the strings of keyboard-hammering. In SMP you can make bombers using Movecraft, but that's not QUITE the same.
You guys who disagree are only talking about defenses for his house. For people who like to play in survival mode it is a pain in the ass. I like to build multiple structures and towns etc... I don't want a barrier or a moat around everything I build to keep Enderman from destroying it. Yes, there are ways to prevent it, but I myself like to build things sometimes to look natural or to be easily viewed. Building a barrier or moat around every thing I want to build really kills a lot of peoples build and play style. I want variety in the things I build as well as some sort of realism.
I know it's minecraft, but still my build style is realistic looking structures and landscaping. I love a challenge and love survival, but having your structures damaged and having to be constantly repaired when there's not a thing you can do about it is very annoying. I don't want to waste my time REBUILDING the same pieces over and over after every night when there's nothing I can do about it because it happens when I'm not there. Unless of course I build obnoxious walls and defenses which isn't my style.
I agree with the OP, Enderman had potential, but in it's present state it's failed.
okay, just got back from a trial run. in less then a mine craft day, i was able to dig a hole, get some stone, make two mushroom soups, make several stone swords. no armor, waited till night fall. look directly at an Endermen, let him teleport towards me, and in in three swipes defeated him with no damage taken. this was on normal, using only basic attacks, and the Endermen did one teleport.
Any one who thinks that Endermen are challenging or scary. I want to know how? I mean, it would be cool if they didn't start out as neutral, but hostile like other mobs and just teleported all the time. then I would be scared. throw in some cool sound FX when they teleport to give the player a bit of heads up of the impending attack, and he would be an awesome mob. as is, not really that interesting to fight, except for the teleport thing he does when you get to close.
Let's identify the main problem here. I will cite Notch himself. "Don't penalize the player for things they can't control." The enderman does exactly that. Most endermen will go unheeded by the player, and will thus wreck the landscape without giving the player a chance to kill them. Creepers only explode when they player is near them. Endermen destroy things regardless of whether the player knows.
I propose the following changes. Firstly, endermen should only move soft blocks like dirt, sand and clay. Secondly, I would remove the teleporting ability, and instead make them smarter. If you are separated from them by water, they should build a bridge. If you are behind a wall, they should build a staircase. If done right, this would be much creepier. Also, endermen should only move blocks if they are actively chasing the player, and only move blocks to help them reach the player. This would mean that the player should already know that an enderman will move blocks before they do it, and the player can keep that in check.
Regarding making the endermen creepier in general, make them hide in very dark areas, and they shouldn't glow. Once you look at them, they face you and their eyes start to glow brightly. Then you look away, and the attack begins.
I think the enderman was a good idea, but the idea was realized in a bad way.

If they only moved blocks when provoked by the player moving his cursor over it, and they proceeded to move dirt/sand to make stairs/bridges, then it'd be pretty epic.
I'd forgotten about that post by Notch. It really sums up what's wrong with the ender-griefing.
One of the biggest game design decisions in Minecraft is that all (well, most) negative things that affect the world or the player should happen near the player, and be clear to the player. … Don’t penalize the player for things they can’t control.

It's stupid. I hate seeing trees that are half made out of dirt and random tree trunks near them.
And even if they spawn only 200 blocks from the player, it's still stupid. They do spawn on packs, just saw 4 in one spot, and the trees were just completely devastated.

Just gonna throw that out there.
BBCode Render failed due to reaching MaxNestingDepth(80) for Tag: spoiler

Right on, Notch, and thanks, blah.
I support this suggestion, and post in general.
