Worked like a charm for me to find all strongholds within 30 blocks with Minutor.
Meh. It is much more accurate to just use Cartograph G, This way you don't have to guess where the stronghold is at you simply follow the map and dig. The Java parser is not as accurate mapping out your world you still have to figure out if your even in the correct area.
You can get cracked and mossy stone bricks from breaking stone bricks, so you can just make stone bricks and break them, you'll get like 4 different kinds out of it, mossy, solid, cracked, and something else that looks solid but doesn't stack.
Whoa man, You are pure gold. Make a tutorial on Stronghold hunting and stick it in your seed!
Also, could you find the stronghold in the seed 2043584565? Thanks, man ^.^
I'm just using Cartograph G to find the stronghold's in the world, the Java code stronghold finder just isn't accurate enough. Besides anyone with Cartograph G can do the same thing that i'm doing.
Would you be so kind as to point out where the strongholds are on the seed "gimmeabreak"
Unfortunately i could not find any stronghold's after exploring and entire map, but you do have 2 very nice NPC villages. One of them i spawned in and right across the field towards the bottom right there is another large NPC village plus a very small one on the upper right side of your map.
I'll try to explore a bit more where i think a stronghold might be.
A quick tip. I always use MCmap live. What I do is usually start up an inventory editor and get gold bricks or something like that. I then stack that up to the sky about 3x3 or 4x4 and then since you are in the ocean you can dive in and make a little platform on said tower. Then you can work from there. That is my best advice
Ok I have been really trying very hard on my own to find the strongholds on my seed. I've tried using Cartograph G, I've tried using McEdit, I've tried using the Java code stronghold finder. I've got a fly mod on and have spent two days scouring the area mapping like crazy. I have found some beutyful stuff, villages, mountians ravines, really neet things. But I'm to point I need help, I can not seem to locate the lil buggers. The map seed is Black Sun (in game comes up as -960271765). Any help locating them would really be appricaited.
Your stronghold is right off the tip of an island on the bottom left side of the map and it's a nice one i checked it out, your NPC village is also indicated with a red box and there is a cool mountain on the top right of your map with a cave dig inside of it near the top.

Maybe you should start a thread where people with world mapping programs help other people find stronghold(s) on the map.

Well your map is a huge ocean with tiny islands but you do have a stronghold, the hard part is going to be finding it. I did verify that the stronghold is there but it's under the ocean on the bottom right hand side of your map.

When you use Cartograph G render a normal world north map that shows all blocks like you have already done, next you want to flip that rendered map 90 degrees counter-clockwise (flip once to the left) so that it looks like your in-game map. Next render another map with Cartograph G but this time under block filter you want to "Show Only Block(s):" click the select button next to it and check the bookshelf #47 and Iron Bars #101 then render your map.
Once you have done that render flip that map 90 degrees counter-clockwise (flip once to the left) then use an image tool to overlay the 2 block render map (i use gimp) and select the option to "Burn" that layer so that the stronghold will show up as black in the picture.

I used the seed -960271765 and i could not find any stronghold's, is it an old seed from and old world or a new seed from a new world? you might also have better luck since you have quite a larger map of your world than i do.

I did at one point have the seed being used as an old server, but i put that world back up in a seprate folder on another hard drive. When I set up the new server I played around a bit using the same seed name before. In other words while during the pre release i was using this seed to locate intresting areas to build the server base camp around. Hence the small bridge and wooden building (the spawn is near that tiny wooden bridge). I will give the two suggestions a try, didn't do the flips you suggested.

Well done the renders again with the flips, I suspect its the seed. I get a few blips for bookshelves and I can confirm that they the towns. I've got two very tiny blips that I can not locate as being towns but they look like there maybe 3-5 blocks in an iregular row. Nothing to suggest a libary of any sort. Looked at the starting posts' seed and flew around it deffently saw the Stronghold under the sand. I'm going to have to get with my people I host the server for and see what they want to do at this point. Since there appers to be no strongholds in this one. Thank you for the information and tips.

If I post you my seed tonight would you mind taking a moment to locate my fortress for me?
Sure i got some time to kill.
And snicklefritzz i'll make a map for you too.
You have a nice spawn in this seed, first one i have seen where you spawn inside of an NPC village.
