Hello....I can't play beta 1.8 or technically Minecraft for that matter because...MY COMPUTER IS A PIECE OF ****!!!!!
Sorry for the language but i'm extremely mad because I've needed a new computer for about 5 years now, yet my dad hasn't bought one.
IN
FIVE
YEARS!!!!
So as you can see I am becoming more, and more depressed as people rub it in that they say that 1.8 is so fun, so when I get home I sit on my couch and fell nothing from my mind like there's no more meaning to life other than Minecraft...
(I need a life)
My dad says he is going to "look into" buying a new computer which may take some time so I'll leave all of you readers to that.

I still have a dinosaur computer and a junky laptop. going to get a new computer soon, hopefully. Anyways one of my computers crashes now and the other runs at about 10 fps on the 1.8 update.
I hope you become afflicted with depression. Then you'll regret being such a **** to people that suffer from it when you find yourself uncontrollably crying for no apparent reason and then spending days with not a lick of happiness to be seen.

Actually having depression and whining because your dad won't buy you a new computer are 2 completely different things....

Dude, feeling bad because your dad won't buy you a new computer is depression in the same way that rain at a wedding is irony...
Mhm... I can't even get to the main screen now that 1.8 came out... And I see little chance of getting a new laptop any time soon. At least I can watch LPs?

Exactly. If he gets a part time job in like two paychecks he'll have enough for a mighty fine computer. If he's waiting for dad to buy it then he obviously doesn't have any expenses to speak of.
Quit crying. I need a new computer too. But you know rent, food, baby diapers. Wah wah.

If you think something's impossible.
You haven't tried hard enough.
What's your POS computer specs? Perhaps you just need to upgrade the video cards (and probably the power supply), which could only be like $60. You don't need a high end $700 graphics card to play Minecraft. It's not Crysis...
@ everyone else: The dude is only 14. Good luck getting a job if you're 14, unless you have family connections, especially with this economy.
solution 2) convince your dad that getting a new computer will change his life. sell him the computer much like a best buy employee would sell a customer a computer.
i would say the first solution is the better way to go, as you might get in trouble for trying to con your father, as i dont know what kind of man he is.
or, you could do what i did in late middle-school and up. if you get lunch money, pack your own lunch on the down low, and save your lunch money. 3 school years worth of lunch money helped me build my first computer... it is now a relic in its own right, but it got the job done at the time...
"So as you can see I am becoming more, and more depressed as people rub it in that they say that 1.8 is so fun"
His depression is caused by the feeling of isolation and jealousy. Of course none of you "normal" people would be able to interpret that though, seeing as you're all perfect, happy little balls of glowing sunshine with not a thought in the world as to how people feel when they become displaced from the normal social-order.

Interestingly enough, I respect the patience you must have had saving up lunch money for three years.
I made my computer a decent computer 5 years after getting it haha.
Only reason it took so long, is because when I got my computer, I wasn't old enough to notice the performance issues and what not.

Okay, I get the gist of this thread. Little emo kid crying because his daddy won't spend all of the money he uses to keep that roof above his head on a new computer for him.
My suggestion, as well as most of the people here, is to just get a job. Help support your family, get your own computer, etc. Lots of doors open up to those who aren't completely spoiled brats and actually GET **** DONE. (Pardon my language, but seriously.)
Also, CowedOffACliff, his depression is caused by himself, really. He has a problem, and he doesn't have the balls to fix it himself. Jealousy? It's not like we're literally rubbing it in his face. He could go on the internet and completely ignore anything even remotely related to Minecraft. Nobody's making him read these forums or watch Youtube videos of people playing happily. Isolation? He should go outside and make some friends outside of the internet. Perhaps get into another game that he can play on his computer. Perhaps get into a sport. Hell, doing anything other than moping around on the internet about not being able to play games would be more productive.
CowedOffACliff, he isn't depressed. He's just being a brat about not being able to get everything he wants. I lived with having the same computer--and sharing it, OH MY GOD HOW TERRIBLE ZOMG BETTER CRY ON THE INTERNET--for about seven years. I never complained once because it got the job done, and I actually went outside and played soccer.
So, OP, going outside or not being emo may be abstract concepts to you now, but you'll get used to it once you do something with your life.

This works. I used to save up lunch money and sell random things at school and made a lot of money through it. Money, no matter how small the amount, adds up over time. Doing this is not as good as getting a job, but at least you'll be going outside, right?
EDIT2:
I had to refrain from using the word "self-imposed". I literally stopped myself from typing it out four times. If you understand this edit or the word, you should know why I wouldn't use it in this thread.

MC loads and then gets a blue screen and says "Bad Video Card Drivers"
Failed to load Minecraft Beta 1.8
Tell me can you fix that...

Hmm, I see. Does this help?

Get a job and stop being emo, kid.

Anyways, @OP
The 1.8 update is quite great.
d'oh I got trolled.
Sounds like you need to update your graphic card drivers.
