I no longer feel any passion in food. It feels as if the entire concept of regaining health was destroyed. I thought the hunger bar would be so that you could sprint and starve, those two ONLY. (I was actually sure of this, I'm surprised to say it was otherwise)
Food, without immediate heals, has gone useless. Sure, I can eat it now and then, but only to fill my hunger bar. I kill a few pigs and I'm set.
But when I try to regain health, the process is slow, annoying and absurd. How many of us have been saved from death by food? All of you have, you know it. Now, our health is solely rechargeable. There is no fun in it.
Well you always just make your hunger bar more full then regain health that will save you.Its a slow process but I suppose that is how minecraft will be now :l.It sucks that mushroom soup can not be stacked,I wish you can just nomnom the bowls, they are really useless and just take up inventory space . A .

When life gives you lemons, you cut them in two and squeeze them in your eyes c:
There's no point bitching about it, yes it does suck but notch can't just get rid of a huge part of the game now...
How would sprinting then affect you health? what would the cost of sprinting be?
I wish the food system would fill up heats first and then put the difference into hunger. Or that health replenished faster but hunger dropped faster with the threshold for healing lowered.

Sure he can. The game's still in beta. He can technically do whatever he wants.
If he doesn't implement potions/instant healing items, there might be some validity in this point. 1.8 was largely incomplete, and hunger is definitely a functional system in it's current form. It's fine as is, and can only get better.
Quit whining. Gaining instant health by eating is more absurd as "slowly" healing while being full. I don't mind the new food system, it's fine. And the healing is not really slow. If you are full you heal quite quickly.
Half a heart every 4 seconds isn't quick. Especially if you're in heavy combat. ESPECIALLY with the new bow mechanics making it impossible to machine-gun down enemies.
The only case I died because of this was when I tripped into lava and burned to death. Yes, so no more Diablo-style munching away of health potions/food to survive critical damage. Now you have to be more careful and that only adds to the survival and adventure aspect of the game. Also, you have to prepare food before going on adventure. Again, adds to the adventure aspect.
Believe it or not, this is and was always the way Notch wanted MC to be. If you want it easy, play easy or creative mode.
Or play Survival mode from 1.7.3.
Oh wait. We can't.
So how about you take your idiotic food, idiotic bow mechanics, idiotic passive mob spawn logic, and go play Adventure Mode so those of us who have enjoyed Survival mode up until now can continue to enjoy Survival mode?

I don't recall many people complaining about the food system before, so apparently it was fine as it was. You don't fix what isn't broken.

So you're saying less of a challenge equates to fun? Because that's exactly what having food go back to the old method would do. I'll give you credit in that you don't go around pretending it was more challenging previously like half of these threads.
Give it some time. Someone will mod it out if Notch doesn't remove it. Personally I say he leaves it. Pre-1.8 I couldn't bring myself to play Minecraft much at all and 1.8 is suddenly making it fun for me. This is just one of the numerous reasons. But then that's my opinion for all it is worth.

If you want a challenge you shouldn't be playing a game based around internet Legos. The charm of Minecraft is its simplicity and flexibility as a creative building environment. I have 500+ hours into it, just mining and building crap.
The more complex it becomes, the more it loses that charm.

Half a heart is enough if you make a wall of cobblestone and you heal. Also i always carry iron armor when i go to a cave and the most damage i have taken is only half a heart if i am being carefull. The new bow mechanics is much more better than the old one because spamming arrows to kill enemies is annoying and not fun at all and it causes arrows to glitch
Downgrade to 1.7.3.Oh wait you didnt save the 1.7.3 .minecraft folder?Than deal with it.
Adventure mode is a totally different mode and has nothing to do with 1.8.
1.8+ new survival mode (witch actually has aspects of survival)
1.7.3- old survival mode(too easy, combat too boring and probably never coming back)

then revert to a previous version. you had to have known when you bought it that it would be updated with new features, it being a beta and all, right?

Following that backwards logic, there was no demand for minecraft before Notch came into the picture. You also realize the majority of great features in minecraft were conceived independent from community demands via Notch, right?
You're going to have to do better than, "I think x sucks so I should get what I want."
Bows are superior.
Hunger is superior.
Passive mobs are incomplete and to be honest, theres too many ways to get food to even bother with them.

You call pre-1.8 too easy and boring, but it's pre-1.8 that got Minecraft a crap load of attention. It can't be all that bad.
then revert to a previous version. you had to have known when you bought it that it would be updated with new features, it being a beta and all, right?
New features != completely replacing existing features
If Notch wants to radically change mechanics then that's fine, but it should then be made a game setting or branch off into a new play mode. I'd rather have a hunger/food system option than whether or not there are NPC villages created...
Following that backwards logic, there was no demand for minecraft before Notch came into the picture. You also realize the majority of great features in minecraft were conceived independent from community demands via Notch, right?
Actually, I believe it was Notch himself who pointed to prior block/building games as his influence. Minecraft isn't original in concept. Hell, I played with auto-generated terrain 14 years ago to automatically build a large, grid-based MUD world.
You're going to have to do better than, "I think x sucks so I should get what I want."

So in other words, you think the old bows suck, the old food system sucks, so you should get what you want.
The difference between us is that you're saying I should deal with it, and I'm saying you should have all your fancy new mechanics in a new Adventure Mode. I, at least, am trying to push a solution that makes everyone happy.

I never said they sucked, a convenient twist of my words. I said the new features are superior.
The new bow isn't just an item in your inventory that dispenses arrows. I can repeat this to you for the second time, but the old bow did not allow you to hit a mob more than x times per second. It didn't matter how fast it could shoot. The new bow is a vast improvement. It's now more advanced, and more bow like. It's just as powerful as it was before. If a creeper suddenly falls next to you, you wouldn't have been able to shoot it back with the old bow one way or another.
I'm not telling you to deal with it. Go ahead and mod it all away. I don't know how you've managed to enjoy minecraft all the way up to 1.7.3 with how many improvements Notch makes every patch. Unfortunate that your beloved bow and food got targeted this time around.

I cannot disagree more. In my opinion, since we are just stating opinions here and not facts, the act of simply mining and building is not enough by itself to keep me playing Minecraft. Previous to 1.8, and even more so the further back you go in releases, I could barely bring myself to play the game for any real length of time.
If you continue to disagree with the changes are see this as nothing more than a glorified building simulation, simply stop upgrading. From what I've observed Notch seems focused on adding gameplay elements to this game. Assuming he stops or greatly slows development after 2.0, then 1.7.3 will effectively be the last version you need to worry about.
The fact is, Minecraft is still selling even after 1.8 was released and I don't see the number of sales stopping anytime soon. Thus your opinion that it isn't anything more than a building simulation is just that - your opinion.

Okay, well, complaing about hunger is stupid, it actually makes the game more realistic becuase in real life you don't eat food and then instantly you are all energetic again, it SLOWLY releases the nutrients into your body, and now the game does too. Perfectly fine to me.
The fact that passive mobs don't respawn is quite good, as you can breeed animals soon. This also makes it more adventure based as it is harder to get food, and also that, if an animal goes extint, there is no sudden "rebirth" of the species is there? You have to BREED them.

Seriously, think before you moan.
Minecraft isn't realistic, and it's a horrible point to support any feature in minecraft. By citing realism, you then support ANY idea that is remotely realistic, no matter how ridiculous it is in the perspective of minecraft. It has to be looked at with the mind of how it adds to gameplay. Always.
Passive mobs not respawning is bad. It's really easy to get food without fighting animals. It's really easy to get food without the bugged passive mob spawn code. It now makes it difficult to obtain every other resource animals drop, other than food. Monsters should breed too then, right?

Try to run a long distance - through the night - and tell me food does not make all the difference when you need to get somewhere.
Also, the auto-regen just means you need to approach your health in a different way.
About realism, I would argue that minecraft does use realism as a point of reference, in that Notch tries to add things that are realistic (such as needing to smelt ore) but simplifies and streamlines them so they aren't annoying.
