Those bastards are continuing to steal stone from my lots-of-meter wall, that supposed to keep them away. But I'm ok with that.
BTW, there was anti-endermen spawning platform concept. Just look at videos. It don't need obsidian. Another thing is you can lower ceiling to prevent three meters tall endermen spawn inside. (It's one meter higher, so it is a ssshhhhhhhame to do not use it.) And then build enderproof spawner nearby.
Deal with it, son. I was absolutely correct when I anticipated that dougs randomly moving blocks around would just serve as an irritation, and offer nothing of value to gameplay.
Except you are wrong because having mobs come through the wall at me massively enhances my game play.
You're not using your brain. Mob farms / death traps / all these things that take advantage of the fact that monsters spawn in dark areas and are killed by drowning (how do skeletons drown, anyway? That needs to be removed..) were created by someone else a long time ago. Doesn't matter if yours looks different, you didn't invent the concept, you copied it from someone else.
Trust me, I worked hard on this. I looked at what other people did, sure, but I built 7 versions of my factory before it worked. I used many different techniques. Some worked, some didn't. I certainly used my brain more than I would have if I just hunted mobs, that's fair to say. I didn't invent the concept of traps, but my trap uses stuff I saw nobody else use. They may have, but I didn't copy them. What I like most is inventing stuff and see if they work. I don't really care about getting tons of feathers or strings (which I have no use for); what I'm into is engineering stuff.
Now, you don't have to trust me and you can think what you want of me, but if you don't trust me on that I don't see why I should discuss any more.
lookie here:
i don't make mob traps, i don't understand how OP feels, but, here are a few points to note before you even judge what i say:
1) i hunt for my own items
2) i am on vacation now
3) i have tons of time on my hands until next month
in this month, i can either:
1) spend this month building a mob grinder.
2) play it the way i want to - not building a grinder.
imo, if endermen are destroying player creations, it's going too far.
this isn't like creepers. creepers aren't detonating without your permission since you didn't give it any hugs.
endermen just move stuff around. far more destructive than creepers.
sure, you may say, i don't understand how the OP feels, so why would i know the pain of having to rebuild everything one by one?
remember when fire was still uncontrollable?
remember when tnt couldn't be picked up?
yes?
good.
i set my entire tree house on fire, 2 months of work gone in a single afternoon.
i accidentally set down a tnt and blew half my house up.
remember when spawn points weren't determined by beds and there were no maps?
i died. i couldn't find my way back no matter how hard i tried.
there we all go. we all have experienced this before in some way or another.
it's the same concept, really.
rebuilding a mob grinder destroyed by an enderman is no different than losing your entire house.
think about it, those who are asking the OP to simply "deal with it".

Agreed with Ovus and the original poster, this is stupid. I recognize you can do a lot of things in minecraft, but there are some things you can ONLY do in minecraft and that are only entertaining in the context of minecraft's world, like building huge awesome machines.
If I wanted to kill monsters and run around, I'd play one of the many, many, many better games that have been made about just that, almost all of which have superior graphics and gameplay to minecraft and do not crash every few hours. In fact, if I wanted to do that, I could just wait for the actual adventure mode Notch is making, or play the mod adventure mode, or download one of the many other mods that make the game more difficult, have more creatures, etc.
The mob grinder concept is something that takes A LOT of work to generate output and even then it's not like it makes you ore and every item, just the TNT to mine like they do in real life with explosives. I didn't really see it that differently from making the diamond pickaxe, it's the next step up and appropriately hard to use. It's detonation was also nerfed to require redstone and therefore, planning as explosives would in real life. It is not cheating, it is simply the idea of scale vs time, which makes minecraft great. By screwing up TNT factories you're stuck with pickaxe only forever and getting the rock to build anything truly big takes so much time it loses all entertainment value.
Also, we're seeing that they do take player placed blocks, even non-block shaped ones like fences. Endermen are cutting holes in growing trees and generally making worlds look like hen-pecked nonsense. They're bugged, I hope, like a lot of things in this clearly rushed update. Calm down, Mojang, you're not gonna lose our attention, nobody likes Terraria, please take your time.
No giant awesome machines = Every other game with swords and monsters
Registered just to say this.
Your opinion is most appreciated. You're absolutely right. The day I suggested a bed to skip nights because I found them annoying, I had the same reaction: it's cheating. If we listened to these people, you'd have nothing but your fist in Minecraft, and everything else is cheating.
Now, you don't have to trust me and you can think what you want of me, but if you don't trust me on that I don't see why I should discuss any more.
Ok, one last post for the op, THEN I'm going to the store.
I have no personal problem with you, I just think there's another solution to the problem other than complaining about the endermen, and having them nerfed or removed... such as the suggestion of keeping the spawning areas only 2 blocks tall... But it seems as though you just keep up the same argument no matter what anyone says, so I'm giving up as well. See ya.
I spent hours these past few weeks building a giant death factory for mobs - the hostile sort - and I finally managed to make a very efficient one. Now, I updated, and within two minutes of activating my death factory, everything went wrong. There was water where there shouldn't be. I suspected enderman. And I was correct. Upon inspection, tons of blocks had been removed; my channels were completely sabotaged and my whole construction rendered useless. It was a real pain to fix it up because it's all in the dark and made of channels you can't jump out of and etc.
Now it's fixed, but if I turn off the peaceful mode, they will once again destroy my creation.
I think enderman's ability to move around blocks should be cancelled. If they move blocks around in the wild, it makes no difference and you'd hardly notice; and when they remove blocks from your constructions, it's not particularly fun, and rebuilding is a major pain in the potato, especially if you have a device made to spawn mobs and kill them afterwards.
I read somewhere that endermen would only move natural blocks and not those placed by the player, but all the blocks I used in my trap were placed by me. Is this a bug that will be solved in the near future or will enderman always be able to displace player-placed blocks?
If enderman continues to have this ability, and if there's nothing you can do to stop him, then I must forget about my massive death factory, and much more, since I used this to get gunpowder to get TNT to flatten the land around my home and many other things.
If you too wish enderman couldn't remove your blocks, say so in this thread.
PS: If you disagree and like that enderman can remove your blocks, I'm sure you have valid reasons in other contexts, but if you have created a complex construction which needs to remain just as it is to function, you will understand how handicapping enderman can be: it's either peaceful mode forever, or forget about your inventions altogether (since my factory can't work on peaceful).
i tryed something like that just not so massive. i just made my house and it went night time so i went outside to find an enderman to see one. i found one and looked at him by a mistake and ofc he ran after me. i ran into my house to be safe " i didnt have any wep :biggrin.gif: " after a while he began to take the blocks away from my house so he could run in and kill me ... so yeah i think its pretty anoying and they should do so that it only takes generated block and if this is just a bug i hope they fix it REALLY soon
OOOOHHH, this game is a survival game, we have to survive, and we can build stuffs too, wowowowowow!!!!!!!!!!
OOOOHHHH, i can build a machine that can kill all these monsters for infinity drops. I will just make a "Mob grinder" amd sit my lazyass here to "harvest all this TNT". WHO HAVE TO SURVIVE NOW, U SON OF A MOB???
This is such a nice day, im gonna make some glasses for my beautiful house. Aww...how silly, i placed wrong order, shovel need 2 sticks...OOOHHHH, what's this??? A Sword??? ROLFCOPTER!!! Who need a silly sword for if i have a freaking "hax machine right there", must be nerd's thing.
Holy sh!t, new update!!!OOOOHHH, this new mob can mess up my machine, i cant get unlimited TNT anymore. Does this mean i have to kill mobs with this silly thing called sword? Nah, i will just go whine about it on forum, maybe they will remove this stupid mob for my sake...i mean for good.
OOOHHH These people are asking me to build the way to prevent that mob??? sound good but im a lazyass so i will just ignore them, take too much effort building and stuff
Except for all the people, even in this thread, noting that it adds a whole new level of fun to the survival aspect of the game.
You personally don't like it. Fine. But that doesn't mean your idea that it's "griefing that adds nothing to the game" is somehow an objective fact.
How is it anything but griefing?
Of what value does it serve?
1. They operate in the distance, nowhere near you, it adds no immediate danger to the player.
2. The damage they inflict is an incoherent mess that is rarely, if ever, utilized by other mobs to add any danger.
3. They operate gradually over time, and their griefing accumulates, tenfold on SMP servers with many players keeping chunks active.
4. The damage they inflict looks ridiculously stupid, there is nothing interesting about it. Floating trees?
5. It makes absolutely no sense for them to randomly pick blocks apart and make circles on the ground. It's not mysterious, it's stupid.

Dude, no, they don't have that effect. You're deluding yourself. They operate in the distance, they pose no immediate threat to you. The only effect they have is that you return to an area you haven't been in a while to find a mess. They move blocks randomly, in a completely incoherent manner that is not designed to be utilized by other mobs, and isn't utilized by other mobs. They just make a mess.
I think the endermen just need to be adjusted as to what blocks they can pick up. That, or allow for players to construct certain blocks that endermen can't move at all.
I think players should just have the option of disabling NPC block destruction in the first place.
Some of us want to enjoy the survival aspect of the game without having to concern ourselves with cleaning up a mess or constricting our build designs to deter damage. Having to slather water and torches all over everything doesn't give us builders many options.
Some of us want to enjoy both the creative and adventure aspects of the game at the same time.

Dude, yes, they have that effect because I lured five of them to the base of the tower was on and they don't stop randomly moving blocks while set to "hostile". I had a zombie get through the resulting hole until I patched it up. That is exactly the kind of player/mob interaction I have been dreaming of since I first heard about this game.
Hell, Notch used to talk about hostile mobs tunneling after you during "Red moon".

Well they do take damage from water, so I guess they want us all to build moats around our houses?
I'll I can say is welcome to Beta. You knew the game would change while you were playing it. You have no "Rights" when it comes to the design of this game. I certainly hope Notch doesnt sell out his vision to anyone.
I think having a creature that forces you to upkeep your structures while playing SURVIVAL is totally natural. You build in Minecraft, so having something "take apart" makes that a natural enemy and makes complete sense.
If you don't want to deal with them, then you should play on creative or use your brain and figure out how to endermen-proof your structures.
Maybe you should stop playing the Beta until the complete game comes out so you know exactly what to expect when you build your complicated structures.
It's hard to feel sorry for anyone who knew there would be risks while playing a game that they knew was still in development.
And you craft to your hearts content in Creative mode or Survival peaceful. In Survival normal and hard you need to adapt to hostile mobs.
You're right it's called SURVIVOR mode. I want to survive in my shelter. The problem is the Enderman is laughably easy to kill with a few swings of my sword that he really plays no part in challenging my survival. Instead it just griefs my structures, then Minecraft suddenly becomes a game of fixing broken **** and endless maintenance rather than a survival challenge.
That sort of thing is totally boring and serves nothing than to waste my time.
