You didn't read a goddamn sentence in this entire thread. Challenge =/= monotony. And the comparison to skeletons is non-existent. There isn't an invisible balcony of skeletons out of view shooting you 24/7. It's not a 24/7 phenomenon. They don't destroy your creations. If you want a real challenge to the artist, be the first to suggest ghasts in the normal realm, or cut the BS hypocrisy.
Hey, I stated my opinion. I said it was my opinion, and I'm not forcing others to share it--people asked why people like endermen, and I said why I do. I personally like what it makes me do. Not everybody does. I think it could be greatly improved(which I think it will be, we don't even have NPCs, perhaps the better AI for endermen will come with the AI for them) but so far... I have so much fun playing minecraft right now! It's a blast for me and my server and we love it. I'm sorry other people are having such problems with it, I do understand the frustration, I just really and truly think it's fun.
But again, it's just the way I have fun playing the game. Honestly talking about all this on the forum isn't so fun anymore. I'm not supporting mojang--I'm supporting a game that I thouroughly enjoy. If mojang had been overthrown and made by modders a while back and I just didn't know, I wouldn't be upset, because it's the game I'm enjoying and it's still fun for me!
Honestly I think I'm done talking about endermen now. I'd rather go hunt them. I know some people are never going to like 1.8, that's okay, some people never liked pistons in the game. I was asked why I enjoy it and I answered. Kind of getting exhausting though. Talk about monotony, I'm tired of reading the same angry posts. :sad.gif:

Some people don't like pistons? I don't really get that. (probably because they didn't act exactly like the mod that inspired it right?) Pistons were an improvement over having no pistons.
I've played the game for a year now and this is the first addition to the game that I really disliked. The reason I signed up to the forums was to see if I could find a way to make an official fix for it. I've seen at least two others who said the same thing. Adding a random block moving/deleting mechanic to a block construction game is like adding a random tripping mechanic to a fighting game, it won't be appreciated by many of the players.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
Some people don't like pistons? I don't really get that. (probably because they didn't act exactly like the mod that inspired it right?) Pistons were an improvement over having no pistons.
What are you talking about? I hate those darn pistons, crafting themselves at night and pushing bits of my world to oblivion when I'm at the mineshafts...
Oh god, You just made my day...
*end of sarcasm*
Being serious, the "passive" block-moving ability of the endermen must be removed. Make them move whatever they want when *I* **** them off in the first place, as the skellies shoot when they see *me* and the creepers explode in *my face*.

I understand you enjoy the game, but this topic is about a single issue of the game, not the entire game itself.
I'll spend months on a world, but I still make a new one whenever there's an interesting new update, or if I find a cool seed or something.
No point keeping old stuff, the fun is in the making, once I've made a bunch of stuff it's best to get rid of it and get more space to make new stuff, in a new environment, with new challenges.
He made an RPG map... You know, alot of people are making survival maps for others to play. If you work on such a map for months, so that other people can play it, it is not an option to abbandon it, simply becouse of a new patch.
The endermen are ****ing up gameplay for a lot of people, seriously, deal with it. No matter how much you guys cheer for Notch or defend whatever he is doing, you can't change how other people play the game.
I am not saying that you are in this group, but this thread is _FULL_ of people who are acting as sect members (I study religion btw). It feels like some people in this thread is going to support anything Notch doess, simply becouse he is Notch. It seems like people are not willing to see that also Mojang can make mistakes.
Everybody makes mistakes, including Mojang. If I where them, I would most of all appriciate those in the community who tries to make constructive feedback and well thought out critisism, over those who only worshiped me for my genious.
I think endermen was a great idea. I don't think Mojang considered the fact that endermed could wreck alot of peoples gameplay. Put your self in their shoes. If you made a game wich people loved, then released a patch, and a lot of your players thought that some of the things in the patch ruined gameplay, would you rather not know about it?
Notch himself have said something like this: If some of the aspects we make for minecraft are not fun, then we will remove it.
I seriously hope people stfu about this damn thing now.
I seriously hope they NEVER "stfu" about boneheaded game-wrecking developments that should never have happened in the first place.
What bugs me is that people had to ***** so much and for so long before Notch responded in the only possible sensible way.
And that it's not DONE already now that he's made the decision.
And incidentally, that countless people still have access problems and other major functional fails they did nothing to cause; and can't get help from a totally out-to-lunch Mojang.

I rest my case.
^ This.
It's good to see that there are civilized discussions still taking place in this thread at least.
Thank you Notch for just acknowledging that you will do something. That does go a long way to easing our worries. Now to wait and see if said nerfing will be good enough, but I have faith it will.
It's good to see that there are civilized discussions still taking place in this thread at least.
Thank you very much kind sir.
And it seems like I was right also. Notch do plan on removing endermen griefing, and states that it was a "horrible idea". It seems to me, that he is glad we pointed this out for him. He might never have thought about it if people who disliked it was keeping their mouth shut.
That is the whole point of being a beta-tester. Give feedback: What was good, what is fun, what can be different, what needs to be removed/altered.
Of course developers want's that.
Now I wonder how the Notch-worshippers will feel about ender griefing? Do you agree with Notch this time as well? Are your once lovable griefers so lovable, now that Notch have said that they where stupid?
I like Notch alot, don't get me wrong. But I have a contract with him and Mojang, and so do all of you. He wants us to help out in developing minecraft. He wants us to present our thoughts on the game, both positive and negative. He wants to see the game from different peoples perspectives...
And he has just proven that for us all.
Thank you Notch. Better late than never, it's been only a week since the update. He might have had a busy week. I am fine with him taking so long before adressing the issue. He did lissen in the end, that is what matters. A week is not that long, even though I would prefer some kind of statement. He could have said that they needed to talk about it internally for instance. But yeah, a week isn't that long either.
From Notch on Twitter: "By the way, I will nerf the endermen block carrying. It was a horrible idea."
While I'm glad that Endermen are going to be no longer be save-game noise generators, I can't say that I'm happy with "It was a horrible idea." Honestly it wasn't that bad of an idea. The problem is that they were added so haphazardly that I'm not certain it could have been done worse. Building something with the moved blocks? Yeah that would've made it more acceptable. Messing around in natural caves? Sure that could have resulted in some odd glances. Actively removing obstacles to get something that just attacked them? Totally fine. Rebuilt trees upside town? That would've been awesome. Incredibly rare? Yeah, I wouldn't have noticed random damage at the speed it happened. All in all, they were far too common for randomly picking up and dropping blocks.
So I have to say, it wasn't a horrible idea, it was a horrible implementation.
If notch would listen to comunity minecraft is not minecraft. First of all minecraft does not support RPG games and if you want RPG game with tons of plugins then download one where you can dissable endermans. I like how people think nowdays.
You have no idea what you are talking about. We, me and you, are beta testers. We help Mojang in their development cycle. Tell me one thing, would it be ok if we pointed out bugs that needs fixing? Or would it not be minecraft, if the bugs where to be removed?
We are pointing out a gameplay element we thing is a huge flaw, and we are providing well thought out reasons for why we are thinking that it is a huge flaw. We are pointing out how one new feature are ruining the gameplay for alot of mojangs potential costumers, so that Mojang has a chance of doing something with it if they choose to do so.
I don't want a RPG game with tons of plugins. Where did you get that idea from? I just don't want NPC griefers.
I am baffled to see how so many people don't see how critics can actually help Mojang, and that developers actually find critisism valuable. If you are making a product, you want to make a product people want to buy and use, unless you wan't to run out of business.
and this:
Ok i ask different way. How much stuff did you spawn to make this thing ? If none that means you played without this thing long enough and you survived. So why the hell do you need it. Enderman does the good thing. You should not cheat and this is kind of a cheating.
Read the thread. First of all, he have stated again and again, he made it legit. He made it out of blocks he himself had gathered. So he did not spawn anything, nor did I, building mine.
Alot of players, including me and OP, loves to design complex structures. We make mob systems, we make clocks, some make board games like monopoly, some make huge castles with piston gates, traps and defensive systems, some make computers, some make trivia games, some make automated sentry guns... I mean, the fun in the game lies in huge structures for us. Some make mob grinders simply becouse they are fun, for instance ethoslab on youtube. They take alot of time and effort to build, and are rather impressive in how they work. Designing such a machine and building it takes days. Simply copying Ethoslabs passive mob system took me two days.
So, some build them for fun, and for a challange. Others build it becouse it is the only legit way to get stacks and stacks of TNT. Why do we need so much TNT? Well, I've had to remove whole islands to build some of my machines. I don't want to use hacks to make it, I want to play by the rules of minecraft physics... And I did... Took me long enough, but I managed to do it.
Now, please stop trying to be a smart ass. If you want to say something, think long and hard on whether or not it will contribute to the disqussion or not, and deside whether or not to post. You contribute with nothing so far.
Some people who like endermen have been contributing greatly, they have tried to help out, and they have seen the problem from our point of view. You don't, and are by definition trolling. You add nothing to the debate, you simply annoy people.
If Endermen had been around since the beginning, everyone would have already developed ways of defending against them.
Yeah, modding their environmental damage abilities out of the game.
There's no other way to stop them. And people shouldn't have to resort to modding to protect their world from getting progressively F'd up.
So I have to say, it wasn't a horrible idea, it was a horrible implementation.
This.
What would be awesome is if they pick up blocks to throw at you if they turn aggressive. That way they mechanic is still there and there's still some terrain destruction, but it's player-activated, like with Creepers.
But even then the types of blocks should be limited; it's kind of silly that I have to build a tool to break stone apart into a sustainable block, but they can just pick it up. It should be limited to dirt, grass, sand, gravel... basically the "lighter" blocks.
Hey, I stated my opinion. I said it was my opinion, and I'm not forcing others to share it--people asked why people like endermen, and I said why I do. I personally like what it makes me do. That's great! Will thank you when it's done
