I didn't read all but some posts might be incorrect. In the very beginning of this Lets Play is my most recent test of Endermen, which should answers some questions. If they can still pick up obsidian after trying for an hour, well then my test results are inconclusive.
I've read this topic and I totally agree. I don't feel like recommending minecraft to anyone as long as this isn't fixed!
To all these people out there who say that this ability is to damage mob traps: If endermen would only damage mod traps your argument would make sense. But as is, they destroy every building and environment without making a difference. Homes, warehouses, and other beautifull creative designs, are all at risk of being griefed.
Minecraft was fun because of the creative side, combined with the excitement of survival. Now it has downgraded to us being local minecraftian repair(wo)men. That sounds more like a daytime job to me. It has actually kept me from playing, because I don't want to have to defend my buildings instead of my skin the whole time playing.
@Mojang: Please listen to your customers and solve this issue! Give us back our minecraft!!!!!
I created an account on here just to reply to this thread.
The best way to fight Endermen and their griefing ability is to just build a/multiple walls around your main structure. (In this case, your kill factory. Although they will still be removing blocks off of the wall(s) around the structure, they will never make it to your creation. (especially if the walls are quite high!)
When you say you understand, you mean you've found proof or you're taking somebody else's word?
A page or two someone else claimed they could no longer move bedrock as of 1.8.1, with no proof. This is exactly how rumors start.
You want proof look at MrPixelTech's signature file, one of the science videos is a comprehensive study on what endermen can and can not move. Until you acknowledge having looked at the evidence readily present, stop spreading rumors.

Link the video, or stop spreading rumors. I guess general disputes all fall under the guise of spreading rumors.

and Geeze.. No one bothers to look for anything on their own, it is no wonder rumors and gossip are all that get spread in this forum. Everyone needs things spoonfed because it's too hard to look back one page....

Okay, they can't pick up bedrock/obsidian/slabs/random non-blocks.
I hate to get you hopes down further, but notch might make it in 1.9 that mobs won't drop anything at all unless a player kills it. Sadly that will just make your entire machine useless. Okay...This is what you got to do.
1. make a copy of the present minecraft jar file when you read this
2. put it in a folder you can find.
3. wait till 1.9 comes out and update
4. find your .minecraft folder (windows I'm guessing) by typing %appdata% in "run" and .minecraft should be the first thing.
5. open .minecraft, go to bin, find the 1.9 minecraft jar file and move it to a folder you can remember to find.
6. put the 1.8.1 minecraft jar file in the bin folder
7. Wallah! you have successfully downgraded minecraft to 1.8.1!!!
8. have fun with that crusher.
Also, this will work with downgrading to 1.7. You can downgrade to 1.7 so that there will be no enderman, but you will have to rebuild a new crusher because 1.7 can't run 1.8 maps. Another problem is that you can't always trust websites when downloading something. Also, just type "downgrade to minecraft 1.7" and a website with a 1.7 jar file should show up. Also, it is unconfirmed that Notch will make it so mobs don't drop objects naturally but you should do it just in case.

Well.. that'll make this game pretty boring.
If Notch wants this to be nothing but an adventure game, he's going to be competing Skyrim. I think he'll lose.
The charm of Minecraft for myself and many others is finding creative ways to kill things automatically to provide materials for further creating. Take that away and Minecraft just isn't Minecraft anymore.

Truthfully, I never built traps for the item drops. That was just a way to keep score. I build them to watch mobs die in gruesome and creative ways. There's just no way a night of hunting - even with a glittery sword - could ever compare to watching twenty creepers fall to their deaths after being set on fire.
As we speak, I'm redesigning my mob towers to not only slaughter mobs en masse again, I'm pretty sure I've got a way to make an Enderman killing floor so I can enjoy seeing those block-stealing bastiches sizzle to their deaths in water streams.
Personally, I can't see any real benefit to the XP system in Minecraft since leveling up is pretty meaningless. What are you gonna do? Mine a little faster? Meh. Better to kill the mobs and not have to deal with the memory-killing XP orbs IMHO.

I highly doubt that notch would do this, there is such a large part of the community with mob farms, it would be a shame to just break all of them.
I like how the enderman can move blocks around, I just wish it wasn't so mindless. Also I do think there should be one or two more standard blocks that can't be moved, like stone brick maybe?
As it stands, everyone needs to protect their structures with fencing and torches. Mob farms need to go one more and replace all building materials with either obsidian, or double half blocks.

That'd be a lot of Obsidian for large farms, given mobs don't spawn on half-blocks. And if I didn't know better I'd say one of the f'ers moved one of my source water blocks...

Keeping in mind that the poster this response was aimed at has no credibility to make such a bold statement, Notch definitely has a record of shitting on older worlds with his new ideas/fixes.
He broke cart boosters a few patches ago, keep in mind. Whether or not it was a good decision(and he DID offer a perfectly fine alternative to justify it), there were a -LOT- of worlds with gigantic, elaborate minecart systems based around the original cart booster that all had to be rebuilt.
Basically, we're at Notch's mercy. No amount of complaining will change his mind, apparently. I don't think anyone will boycott Minecraft over a small change that only affects a small portion of the community (I don't know how much it affected/endermen affected). Everyone will still play/buy minecraft, and Notch can happily shove anything down our throats.
It's why Notch fanboys can be so utterly infuriating. They take away all power from the consumer and blindly give it back to the creator, (Notch), for little to no reason other than the sake of doing so. Rarely do they have any good points (especially the pro-endermen block moving crowd), other than 'they like they idea,' which is every excuse Notch fanboys have. And it's not like I'm insinuating that Notch is evil and hates his customers, either. The community simply has little power over vanilla Minecraft for as long as I've played, and disunity among us only further empowers him. Not even over this stupid block moving issue; All of them.
I don't think they can move source blocks, but I agree that that would be a lot of obsidian. It would also be such a chore to redo all one's farms. However, I'm curious as per why it would have to be done in obsidion. What's wrong with the double half stone blocks? Why is it important that mobs don't spawn on them? Wouldn't that be good for farm-making material? Last time I cchecked I don't thing any one liked mobs in thier wheat feilds.
Erm.. talking mob farming, not wheat farming. Surround your wheat/melon farms in light or water (which can look natural enough) and Endermen are already ruled out as a problem.
The problem is them spawning in mob traps for mob farming. You could make the walls and any ceilings out of double half blocks to prevent Endermen from moving those, but you need a ground block type that monsters will spawn on and Endermen can't destroy. I think that's pretty much just obsidian.

Wrong, mobs can spawn on double half-slab. They can spawn on any half-slab that is in multiples of 2, they can't in multiples of 1. For a good video on the subject:

If you do, please post it.
Bedrock and obsidian do not get moved.
