....at first i was i thought i new were you were coming from..but did i state this was a survival only? no.. i even used to use complex things. and i still do..i have minecrats that bring me from house to house.. i have lots of things spread through my game..and it is a sandbox so it should be played as such..though you took what i said ...pointed out how i played but not the point i was showing and them compared minecraft to a FPS? how does one compare minecraft to Fallout?? and those that do should be treated as ignorant fools. you took what i said and made it be something else. i now see that you dont want to see the other side to Endermen but just want revenge for your trap..i was wrong and now see it.. good luck my friend with your cause but your going at it for the wrong reason.
Kind sir, not all of my comment was directed at you and what you said, I just generalised over things mentioned by others. Apologies for making it sound like it was all aimed at you.
Hahaha, I wonder where are all the macho adventurers now.
Guys, THIS is your "exciting adventure": (Yogscast)
SO. STUPIDLY. USELESS.
Convinced now that they won't tunnel their way to you at all?
Not that I needed to be convinced, but video is a good argument. Enderman is like my brain-damaged cousin with a pair of scissors. He's not dangerous unless you stare into his eyes, and then he can be beaten into submission by slight *****-slapping. (I don't actually have such a cousin, but you get the idea.)
From what I saw in the video, enderman moves blocks, has a hard time seeing you stare at him from close range, and once he does realise that, he has a seizure and shakes that block o'his like no tomorrow. Not exactly frightening.
Not only do I find it pointless at best and a major nuisance at worst, but I also think enderman could have been, and could still be, much, much better. He does have potential, not as a mason, as a killer from the dark. This thing should kill! I'm not in favour of teleportation either, because that kills suspense in my opinion, it'd be freakier if he were just the fastest mob around and could outrun you or something.
Didn't Mojang state that they want to eliminate drops from mobs not directly killed by the player?
I'd love to know if this is true or not. If true, that sounds like the beginning of the end. The greatness of Minecraft resides in the freedom it gave you: here's a world, study it, learn its ways, use them to your advantage if you're smart enough to figure it out. We have done that, and now they're considering changing the rules because we were too creative? I honestly don't think this is a promising direction to take.
Next mob will be Joseph Stalin and his ability will be that if you look at him, you will automatically spend the next 60 hours digging up dirt and building the Kremlin, automatically. And if anyone complains, I shall tell them to "deal with it" and "that's how the game is."
Would it make my life any better? Jeez man, don't get all mad; I am getting tired of the same solution being suggested, and y'all keep ignoring viable solutions. All these spam threads about Endermen are starting to get annoying.
What's a viable solution to protecting the landscape? Placing torches everywhere and flooding everything? That's not viable.
to put quite simply here is my counter argument, enderman was made this way to MAKE things harder for the player, thats kinda what mobs are for. In my opinion, Enderman being able to pick up and move blocks is good. you can't build a house and then suddenly it goes from "survival" to "lets start farming materials" enderman the way he is can REMOVE PROTECTION, if you REALLY dislike enderman that much, build a water moat around the thing... if you didn't notice... enderman DIES in water.. if you make a moat, he can't get near it to rip it apart
Make things harder? It makes the landscape look glitchy, and once I fix my mobtrap it won't be any harder than anything before; it'll take a long time, but it's not difficult per se, just very tedious.
As to enderman and water, enderman removed blocks at the bottom of channels. As to the moat, you obviously read little of this thread.
a) my construction is at sea
:cool.gif: mobs spawn inside, endermen too (and yes, I know of the 2-block high ceilings, was told a million times)
Can anyone actually confirm that they won't spawn in 2-block high ceilings?
Also, does higher ceiling increase spawn rate or not? I made my levels 4 blocks high because I read that more space above improves spawning.
I actually like this feature, before it was easy to make an impenetrable building by simply closing yourself in, and to do what you attempted to do here, farm drops by building deathtraps. Now that there's something that can actively sabotage these things, you have to actually build defenses, and/or actively repair your buildings.
All in all though, it's really a matter of personal preference, some people, myself included, will really like the idea that their creations could be cut apart at any moment, and that they need to be vigilant or clever if they wish to keep them safe. Others will hate the idea that the creations that they put much work behind could be easily sabotaged. To me, preferences like this are why the game can be played on either creative or survival mode, and on different difficulties.
The following are a number of conversations had long before the release of 1.8 where I tried my best to warn Mystify, and everyone else, of the inevitable irritating quality of dougs (aka endermen), and Mystify denying it up and down. Reader beware:
And I'll be damned if I won't rub it in your face! :biggrin.gif:
Quite an epic series of quotations. Should be enough to change a few people's minds, especially those who defend endermen's block-moving ability against all reason.
This is just an idea, but Endermen are three blocks tall right? So why not make the ceiling two blocks high? The Endermen won't be able to spawn, but you will still have all the other baddies spawning. That will be a lot of work to change your flooring though. Let me know if it is two high already, because that would be interesting to know about Endermen
I wouldn't have answered you - since I was told to do this just about 500 times already - but since you're a gentleman, I'll respond.
It's currently 4 blocks high, designed that way because I was under the impression that head space improved spawning rates. It's what I read somewhere. Yes, I could add blocks and make it 2 high, but by God, we're talking over 600 blocks, which I'll have to dig by hand. That won't be fun, and it'll take forever.
I think enderman's ability to move around blocks should be cancelled. If they move blocks around in the wild, it makes no difference and you'd hardly notice; and when they remove blocks from your constructions, it's not particularly fun, and rebuilding is a major pain in the potato, especially if you have a device made to spawn mobs and kill them afterwards.
If you too wish enderman couldn't remove your blocks, say so in this thread.
I think the Endermens' ability to move blocks is interesting, however, I think it is an extremely bad idea to implement. It is guaranteed to do nothing but annoy the **** out of the players.
Find some new way to make them special and interesting. If the goal was to have them replicate player ability in some way, let them open doors and climb ladder or w/e. Unfortunately the placement and displacement of blocks is sure to do nothing but frustrate players in a way that is not fun.

Make it 2 blocks high for spawning grounds, that way if Endermen still spawn, they'll probably die fast due to suffocation.
Before you go all mad, do realise this was said about a billion times already. I also pointed out how that would imply 40 hours of tedious work. I already have a full time job, just saying.
However, you're saying they still spawn and suffocate. Is that a guess or have you seen it happen? And if that happens, are we 100% certain they won't remove anything while suffocating? I won't tackle my 40-plus hours of tedious work before I'm absolutely certain it'll work.
Also, for all the people saying to the OP, "Just play in Creative mode or in Peaceful mode," Peaceful mode won't work. This is a MOB factory, so he needs to be playing with enemies. Creative mode? Some people actually want to build AND adventure on the same map. Imagine that!
Additionally, to all the people saying that a mob farm is "cheating," it isn't. Minecraft is a open-world game with few limitations for a reason-- Notch wants you to be creative. Building a mob farm isn't cheating, it's an easier way to get items taking a lot of creativity to make the mob farm. As someone in the thread said earlier, you're basically telling us we should go back and live in a cave. Technological advances in Minecraft buildings are not cheating. Seriously, people.
I don't understand the issue.. endermen don't spawn in the light so light up your area. Obviously that's not an option for a mob spawner (something I believe Notch has disliked the idea of being in the game) and if you want to cheat by exploiting the spawning system in this game then you might as well just get a mod to spawn you whatever item you want. It's more more efficient and if your going to cheat don't act like your not by making the vanilla version of the game do it for you and say its not cheating when your just abusing mechanics of the game.
Endermen add something to the game which is the ability to have mobs able to break into your house. I personally like it.. its rare, but when it happens your totally caught offguard and that's what survival is suppose to be.
Cheating: violating rules towards a set goal. I violated no rules by making my death factory, as evidenced by the fact that everything I did was legitimate and part of Minecraft. There isn't a single thing I used that wasn't available. I hacked nothing whatsoever.
I'm not abusing mechanics of the game, I'm using them. This is like saying humans cheated because they went to the moon using the mechanics and physics of this world, instead of... instead of what, jumping there? There's no way I can spend 500 hours hunting mobs to get that amount of TNT.
Endermen don't move blocks to enter your house, have you ever met one?
