there should be more mobs able to move or destroy blocks, not less.
this should be disabled in creative, but it adds challenge to survival.
I hope there will be events, like the terraria blood moons and invasions, and mobs like the often mentioned (by notch) dragons that could set stuff on fire (to go with the creepers' explosions and the endermen's block moving).
this way one has to think of different defenses while building a base and survival has to gradually become more and more challenging. if one only wants to build, creative is there just for that.
No one here wants to build exclusively, we all like the survival aspect which is why we ****ing play it. Endermen don't add any challenges to survival. None of your points are valid. Survival wasn't created purely with the intention that people would only fight monsters and dig for diamonds.
I have a mob grinder and the endermen will likely have already made it cease to function (I haven't checked since 1.8).
But I don't mind.
When spiders learned to climb walls they made my mob grinder halt after a while, I ended up having to strategically place cacti around to deal with the problem, which ended up lowering my string amount significantly.
It's these kind of challenges I enjoy.
Endermen moving blocks in general is quite neat. For several nights I hadn't seen endermen yet, I wondered about them as they were a new mob, but I couldn't find any. But I started noticing signs of them, random blocks moved, a block missing from my house, a gap in a tree, a leaf block alone.
I found it interesting and when I saw my first endermen it made me wary of them.
I like that over time new things can happen because of their block moving. My defenses can become comprised, requiring I be vigilant.
Random tunnels or breaks in my walls can happen now, so it's wise to constantly push out my influence, spreading torches and exploring caves under my bases, or else endermen will be nearby and capable of exerting their influence in my domain.
Personally I find it makes the survival aspect of the game more interesting and I'd like more additions of that kind.

Ehh....Zombie/spider/skeleton add any challenges to survival for u compare to enderman?
Name one
If you care so much about building you should play creative mode.
If you care so much about your mob trap being ruined you alter it.
The adventure update was made to make life harder on players. Endermen are a difficult enemy to deal with: They deal a lot of damage, they are fast, and they teleport to you. However, people still manage to forget how rare they are.
Notch will likely add additional drops for mob killing linked with experience orbs, so just deal with it.
I find it irritating to have my stuffs being move around.
It's not that much of a deal, but it is just a eyesore.
It's not challenging, or hard, or difficult. The feature is just plain irritating.
If you think about it, the people that don't mind the blocks being move, do not build much stuffs/ don't mind nor care if that happens. The people that hate it, build stuffs/ care about it.
You know what that means?
This feature is unimportant to some, and annoying to the rest. It's not fun nor challenging. It limits a user creations and does not boost any adventure aspects.
I feel that the feature should be remove or Nerf. Even better, make the Endermen more powerful, it is so weak at this point.
I am not suggesting the removal of the mob, just that particular feature.
Just my two cents.

Hello, I don't usually follow threads that I post in. So if you would like to have a civilized chat / reply / argument that is of the utmost importance, just PM me. =)
From what I understand, Enderman aren't supposed to even touch blocks placed by players, and like many have suggested, it could simply be a glitch. Also, the thing about the Enderman is that they're a sentient entity, to make you feel as if "You're not alone here", to kind of give you that fear that there's someone else capable of building or destroying you, or your property. The fact that Endermen can move blocks is a terrific addition to Minecraft. Why? Instead of mindless mobs like Zombies, skellies, and creepers, who for the better part, just walk around aimlessly until you come in contact with them, endermen actually interact with the world. You also have to consider that, even though they're a new addition, In the world of Minecraft, they inhabited this world before you did, so you're the stranger to THEIR world. For once in minecraft, you have a mob that you can actually work side by side with without having it kill you (unless you look at it) or can keep fighting against when you encounter eachother.
This isn't about a griefing mob, it's not even about griefing, it's about you getting used to the fact that every mob before now were easy, predictable, and for the most part, stayed out of your way. Now that you're "Inconvenienced" you get into a tizzy and wish to have something that adds to the game, taken away. It's simply laziness. Quite frankly, I don't care how many hours your put into a creation. Obviously if you're playing in survival, you have to deal with these consequences. However the thing about survival, is the key word in survival. To survive, it's not so much about building elaborate mob killing factories or fancy towers, and the like, it's using what you can to make the most of your situation. Even when you get to that point where you can build all these awesome creations, if you're building in survival, you have to deal with the reppercussions and that means the destruction of property. It's part of the game. If you're ever so worried of your preciouse creations being destroyed they simply play creative. It's what it's there for.
The Enderman are fine, and should simply stay how they are. It is a challenge, even if it is an annoyance. Some of you don't even consider it a challenge but just an annoyance period. Well, aren't most, if not all challenges annoyances? An inconvenience? Most certainly. It's getting around them that make them a challenge, so those of you saying the Endermen are just an annoyance, you're contridicting your points. You're presented with a challenge, but you're just too lazy to actually want to come up with a solution around it. Instead, just want to issue taken away with no effort on your part, which is pretty pathetic.
Also, i'd like to point out, that, despite Minecraft being a sandbox genre where you can build anything, giant mob killing factories, are, in a sense, cheating. Yes they're fantastic in their construction and redstone work, but they're not in the true spirit of the game and really does take away from it. I do understand not wanting to grind for items like gun powder, but come on, you probably use Too Many Items anyways.

With that logic building a shelter is essentially cheating because you are abusing the environment to protect you from mobs.
I think you clearly don't understand the true spirit of the game. It's meant to encourage creativity and thinking to make the land your own.
The game like you said is about survival. The problem is that the Endermen are so laughably easy to kill with a few swings of my sword that it really plays no part in challenging my survival. All it does is walk into you like a normal zombie, except that he cant fit through your door, so he just stands there like a moron while you kill it with 2 swings of your sword.
Since the Enderman can't kill you it just griefs your structures. Then Minecraft suddenly becomes a game of fixing broken **** and endless maintenance rather than a survival challenge. That sort of thing is totally boring and serves nothing than to waste my time. It's Minecraft, not Janitorcraft.
A scary, numerous, heavy hitting mob like the silverfish are a challenge to survive against.
Cleaning up after a weak ass mob like the Enderman isn't a challenge, it's just annoying and does nothing to enhance my survival experience.

But this isn't for you to decide. There isn't any single user experience that's "the true spirit of the game," the true spirit of the game is that survivors can play it the way they like, and trap builders can play it the way they like, and we're all still playing Minecraft.
The assumption that mob traps are an extension of laziness is just as unfair and inaccurate as the assumption that survivalists are just not creative enough to tackle something as massive and complex as a mob trap.
Just because you don't understand why a player likes a style of play that you, yourself, do not is in no way an indication that your method of play is somehow more legitimate than mine. To assume characteristics about different players, such as the use of third-party inventory editors, is lazy and, at this point, given the articulate rebuttals offered to such a weak argument, akin to trolling.
Notch himself said mobs shouldn't do stuff without player interaction. (like creepers random exploding and such)
If a creeper blows up it means I screwed up. But I can avoid creepers if I work at it.
Very well said! I remember seeing Notch talk about that, and how only looking at the Endermen causes them to attack is direct interaction. Then he goes and gives them the ability to do something negative completely independent of the player. It makes no sense by the developers own logic. We gain absolutely nothing from their griefing ability and many of us loose quite a bit, that is not good for any game. And to those that say their griefing is just added challenge, just accept that you don't play the game in the same way that we do and respect that.
My opinion: Make the Endermen spawn only on Hard, so all people that want adventure should play on hard. There is your challenge. Personally, I like everything on Minecraft, except the Endermen. I mean, if they only take away Blocks that have been spawned, there is no point to them, and if they take away blocks the player placed, it is pissing off. So, no point having them.
I like Endermen though. I'd love for a solution that simply involves getting rid of their block moving so I can keep them, and hard difficulty.
I think that Endermen movements and block selection will soon be regulated and fixed in 1.9 or so.
They seem very fun to encounter and combat, but the idea that they are able to wreck creations such as construction and building that take very long to build is just too outrageous. And regarding mob traps, they will soon be obsolete in the near future, so you might as well begin to hunt and gather rather than relying on the drops to come to you, which is nice innovation but it will soon become out of use anyways.

I just don't see the logic behind this. For a lot of minecrafters, mob grinders and mob systems are the core element of gameplay. Making advanced machinery is what makes minecraft fun for me and alot of other players. Redstone, pistons and mobfarms are what makes minecraft fun for me, removing one feature or one ability is just limiting the costumer potential. What if they removed the option to have PvP for instance? I never do PvP in minecraft, but I really would support those who would get upset if it was removed.
Why oh why take the fun away from so many players, just becouse you as a developer want's to force people to play as they want them to play?
Seriously... The same mistake has been done by so many other developers. It's hard to state that minecraft is linear, but this has actually made it more linear.
Can you please try to tell me how limiting the options on what is possible to do is a good idea in a sandbox game, made famous becouse of the freedom it had?
I am actually considering leaving minecraft becouse of this. Personally I have recruited at least 6-7 people to buy the game simply on bragging about the oportunity to make machines like this. I am not going to encourage anyone to do this anymore, since that aspect of the game is close to gone.
This just make me sad beyond reason. One of the best games ever made, has become limited, dull and unforgiving. I don't see the fun in a game wich destroys it self.
And that is my argument as well. How in the world doess it seem like a good idea for game developers to actually make the game unattractive for a huge part of their community, and a huge part of their potential costumers? I mean, seriously!
I was going to write my bachelor paper on minecraft as a tool for teachers. I think it would have brought a lot of attention towards minecraft and mojang. I am thinking really hard on not doing it now.
You know they can not pickup half blocks...... make walls around your places with half blocks or just make a mot of water (water kills). Inside the grinder don't make it more than 2 high. Simple solution.
Don't know if this is a glitch on the half blocks but tons have confirmed this on the forums.
I'll say it again here: if it stays this way, Bukkit will have plugins that nerf Endermen. There will also be client mods. I'm not too worried, the player base will fix this to their liking if Mojang doesn't.
No one here wants to build exclusively, we all like the survival aspect which is why we ****ing play it. Endermen don't add any challenges to survival. None of your points are valid. Survival wasn't created purely with the intention that people would only fight monsters and dig for diamonds.
Its because of all you lamers and your monster farms.
Whats fun about getting free items and sitting on your ass while they collect themselves.
If all Enderman was designed to do is wreck monster farms, then good, its about time something was done about item farming.
But I don't mind.
When spiders learned to climb walls they made my mob grinder halt after a while, I ended up having to strategically place cacti around to deal with the problem, which ended up lowering my string amount significantly.
