I've come to the conclusion that nobody on this forum ever reads anything.
Case in point, I start a thread called "Option to Disable NPC Griefing" in Suggestions, and get posts like this:
He didn't even get past the first word of the title of the thread.
*smashes head against the wall*
i know, i saw you on some thread during pre-release advocating the option to remove the ability and seriously, can you believe how ignorant some people are? we want a toggle and they think we want to destroy the way THEY play...

I'd rather it just be removed. None of these people arguing against it would miss it in the least. It's not like they can't hug creepers if they want everything destroyed.

but that would make another mass of people unhappy, hence the toggle, so everyone has what they want.

It's amazing. Not only would what we're proposing not even remotely effect them, but I don't think we could possibly be clearer in communicating that.

Everyone will always be unhappy when someone wants a change in gameplay that will forever be mod-able. In this way, Notch could add the most ridiculous, broken features for the modders to clean up, and no one will ever dispute Notch for it. Not that Notch hates the community and wants to **** everyone off, but yeah.
While I'd obviously settle with some vanilla option of "TURN BLOCK MOVING ON/OFF," it does seem redundant. I feel like it's a legitimate argument to question the existence of this feature entirely. Again, for emphasis, a lot of the people arguing for it, aren't affected at all, nor do they really even notice it past the first few days.
The idea of making your monster spawning area only 2 high seemed like the most constructive idea. If they can't spawn inside the thing, it shouldn't be too hard to keep them away. If there's a wall around your place, an enderman could come up and take a chunk out of it, but the kind of damage you described would only be done by a large number of them. Outdoors they should spread out more. I hope.
I don't understand the issue.. endermen don't spawn in the light so light up your area. Obviously that's not an option for a mob spawner (something I believe Notch has disliked the idea of being in the game) and if you want to cheat by exploiting the spawning system in this game then you might as well just get a mod to spawn you whatever item you want. It's more more efficient and if your going to cheat don't act like your not by making the vanilla version of the game do it for you and say its not cheating when your just abusing mechanics of the game.
Endermen add something to the game which is the ability to have mobs able to break into your house. I personally like it.. its rare, but when it happens your totally caught offguard and that's what survival is suppose to be.

I agree, I don't understand how these guys romanticize the stupidest of features. It seems that for anything Notch dreams up there is a group of people who will slavishly slobber all over it like it's the greatest thing on Earth. I mean, honestly, these guys are defending a mob who picks blocks apart and makes circles on the ground, and they're acting like that's some brilliant, dangerous, fascinating behavior. Some people are plain delusional. There's really no other way to put it. But that being said, I still don't care if they have the option of keeping said feature on, as long as I have the option of opting the **** out.

not to speak for everyone, but i think the biggest issue is not what they do to your house, i don't mind that much, it's what'll happen to my landscape in a month, it'll look totally messed up

The mob spawner is a temporary fix, but it's one of many issues they create. They'll still walk around and tear blocks out of your creations at random for as long as there isn't a moat around it. Unless you want to torch up the landscape in a 500 block radius, the damage they will do will add up very fast when left alone for hundreds of hours.
It makes caring about a pretty landscape around your house rather pointless. For many versions the only hazard to them were creeper craters, but you knew where they were and they're preventable. All of the pretty biomes Notch added are pretty much for naught when you decide to settle next to a mountain side river. For the next thousand hours you might play minecraft in that general area, Endermen will be tearing everything apart. Notch might as well should have added natural erosion to wind and water.
Good. Buncha lazy self entitled kids whining. Build defensible structures. A little lava and cactus go a long way. I'm surprised at all the super awesome smart builders so easily defeated. The game is much more fun now. Not as boring.
If you think it's so easy Mr.moron then go ahead and try. I'm glad I never updated.
You made a murdering machine. Your victims destroy it. Oh no. Now you have to fight. Bawwwwww. What would you even do with over 9000 gunpowder.
You're right. For the rest of time after the hundreds of hours we sunk into building these machines; A lifetime more of effort than you will ever spend actually fighting mobs, we then sit at the item collection pool: Smoking cigars, drinking martini's, because whenever someone builds a mob trap, they don't do anything else in minecraft. Ever.
edit: Whats a sword? Do I just clic- OH GOD I KILLED MY DOG. WHAT IS THIS DESTRUCTIVE CONTRAPTION THAT NAUGHT BUT REAPS PAIN AND SORROW?!
You do realize it is Survival mode right? if you are mad about your creations being destroyed make them in creative mode? like this is the adventure update...the game is actually fun to play now and has some challenge to it. I love the enderman
This point is completely invalid, IMO... Playing in survival should NOT remove the entire concept of building permanent stuff. Especially when that thing is a mob-spawner. Also, I really hope endermen don't get into any of my pre-1.8 densely packed redstone circuit rooms...
However, I assume this is due to the OP having built it prior to 1.8. Since there was no difference between a player-placed block and a naturally occurring one prior to the Endermen, there'd have been no reason to include the necessary flag in the data structures that store the blocks (apart from, perhaps, foresight... d'oh!). That said, they could have made 1.8 just ASSUME that anything made of wood planks, cobblestone, or any other non-natural material was manually placed.
You must be confusing me with someone else, I have no mob traps. I complain about how they deteriorate everything. Flying trees and such you know. They are walking chunk errors.
Ah, I know. I have a habit of replying and then going off on a tangent without making the transitional clear. That bit on the mob trap was meant for the OP. Sorry about that.
How about you just fix the problem with a simple solution: Make every floor only 2 blocks high.
EDIT: Also, Endermen remove all blocks, including 1.8-placed blocks.

Every time that someone on the support forums doesn't say anything after I tell them a possible solution, I assume that they are having too much fun enjoying their fixed Minecraft to reply.
I actually prefer the Endermen's ability to remove blocks. It also makes mob spawners obsolete like I predicted right when I heard that they could pick up blocks. I like that because it makes you actually have to survive and hunt for things rather then going afk at a spawner.
I also like how hunger makes you do this aw well.

Open your eyes. In the end you will have to decide for yourself. You alone.
Um.the code and seed generators changed so that changed a billion worlds as well. Theres you problem in a nutshell. The endermen cant do that damage in that much time.

Imagine what our worlds are going to look like after months of doug activity going unnoticed.
