Decided to make a topic about this black fog I was getting closer to bedrock. Now I was waiting to see if was as bad as people said with not affected by torches. Though today I discovered torches are useless now really as you can barely see in front of yourself. I think this feature should be toggle on and off for those like myself who find it just annoying.

Fixed.
There's a ton of topics existing, why not post in one of them?

I still have yet to see anyone make a statue of a dwarf strangling a kitten that you can live inside.

I tend to agree. The fog only really gets annoying on the lower-most level. So you could just stay a few levels above, but I agree. It would be nice to make it a toggle option.
This black fog near the bedrock is the most amazing thing <3 I would like to be it higher than only on bedrock level it adds climate to the game cuss something might come out on you from beyond the corner and i love it <3 This Should be keept in game and people should start liking it.
But anyway... you ***** about black fog that's it is annoying and all (in your opinion because in mine it's great feature) yet you could say the same about creepers or enderman, or any other thing, maybe we should remove all the stuff from the game that's annoying and only leave about 10% of actual game?
The fog doesn't mean darkness, no creeper will jump in front of you if you place torches. It is idiotic and should be at least toggleable
This poll has a flaw, the topic question is exactly the opposite of the actual poll question.
A lot of people will vote the contrary of what they want.

PostAblindmind1:Tnt can also be uses to see caves underground...unless they removed that bug.
Malacodor: With enough TNT you can see caves without using bugs.
A solution that would actually be awesome would be to make it so that the deeper you go, the closer fog gets, in darkness. If you're in the light of a torch or something similar, it should go back to its normal distance.
They should make it so that the lower you go, the quicker light levels decrease from sources. So at ground level, a glowstone block's light can reach a radius of 15 blocks, but a bedrock, it would only reach 5. This way it's still possible to light up the bottom layer, you just have to use a @#$% ton more torches/glowstone.
I have nothing against the fog EXISTING. But the concept of it being unaffected by placed light sources is not "creepy" it's just a nuisance. If one has explored, mined, and lit up an area, it should be visible. If there are torches placed, nothing's going to spawn anyway so why would it be creepy? -.- The "fog" only changes what we can see, not what happens.
This pretty much break the entire game for me. Some people like to build big things above ground. Me, I like to dig out huge areas and build big things underground.
I started a new world to mess around with the pre 1.8 versions and didn't notice much of a problem. Today I update and go to start working on my old (1.7.3) world only to find that I can only see a small fraction of the work I've done.... This is a useless "feature" that does nothing to make the game better in any way.
I do like a lot of the things that they have added to 1.8 but Ive reverted back to 1.7.3. I don't think I'm going to update until there's a mod to fix this. I don't mind using mods to add things to the game but it does **** me off just a bit to have to use one to fix something that basically ruins the game for me.
wriggle and origin i am so with you - the game feels broken, and so far i love every other feature of this update. looks like ill be building above ground until a modder saves me/us
Yes it adds to the game. Yes it can be scary. No its not pointless. Yes it can be annoying to some. Yes and No to some other points everyone made.
Personally I love it, it adds a great deal to me and I wish the fog worked better looking down from above too.
Do I think it should be toggable? No, not really. Why? Because I enjoy making mazes etc and will really enjoy making some with the dark fog limitation, anyone who can turn it off would simply not be playing my maze correctly.
However...
If it becomes toggable or not is something I can live with quite easily.
So yeah, some of us do want it on, as weird as others may think that makes us.

Personally I still prefer the idea of light sources piercing the "fog" since it's just ridiculous how it works at the moment, but a simple compromise would make it a world based setting. The world as a whole, at creation, will either have the fog added or excluded. This would allow a server to have control over whether or not it is there as well. In this situation, if someone were to make something that utilizes the fog, anyone participating in it would have to deal with it.
I have my doubts, but he reads the twitters for all Mojang employees; I do not. Just Word of Notch and the wiki. So there's a chance he's right.
It isn't a bug, it is a feature. One that has changed slightly already and shall probably change again. The inky black fog at the very bottom though shall probably remain.
Fixed.

But making a 1x1 hole from layer 4 to 65 is a bit too much just to get rid of the fog.
I like the fog but I don't build stuff at low levels. It still should be a togglable option though for those who do.
“Patience up to a point. Know your time, but work your wyrd always.”
Then why, when I blow a huge hole in the ground with TNT, do I still see black fog at the very bottom when there IS a line of sight to the sun?
Ahh When I looked didn't notice the other topics.

I think it's wonderful and necessary.
except that he/she is wrong, it doesnt add to the "scariness" or whatever, since its not actually dark, no mobs will spawn, you simply cant see.
i do realize im bitching and moaning about a bunch of pixels i've foolishly become invested in but they're MY pixels goddammit, i want to see them
