I've been playing 1.8 for a while now and I've noticed something odd going on with my game. My minecraft game regularly gets around 75 FPS. No lag whatsoever.
However, I've noticed that every 7-10 minutes, Minecraft will lock up for about 10 sec. then revert back to normal 60+ FPS. It's the weirdest thing. I'm running a brand new PC so I know that it can handle Minecraft easily.
PC specs:
2nd generation Intel Core™ i7-2620M processor 2.70 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M 2GB graphics with Optimus
So I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I'm wondering if this is Minecraft 1.8 specifically or somethihng else.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I mean it's just so weird. It's not a crash or anything like that. I don't have any error reports or hard crashes. It's just like "let me catch my breath a second, alright let's go." Who knows. I'll wait for the official release and see if things smooth out. After all I think I remember that Jeb was working on some Java memory problem. Maybe this is it?
Yep, like I said, brand spanking new. Like not even two weeks old new. And my drivers all claim to be up to date.
That was actually more or less my point. You might want to check NVIDIA's website, try manually installing the driver for your card. I updated my drivers less than a week ago, and Minecraft started giving me problems today. Updated the graphics driver, and everything's great.
Failing that, it's probably some weird bug. I haven't had any problems, nor seen anyone else with this problem, so that's why I'm leaning towards it being something on your end.

I see. I thought about that. But I never actually did it. I'll definitely look into it. Cheers mate. I'll see. Back in a jiff.
Ah, good. It seems someone else has had the same problem as me. :smile.gif: Anyway, I just looked at the graphics driver for my Nvidia card and checked it against the website. And while there was a driver listed for August 9th, I think that I see why the driver won't download on its own. Because my computer is a laptop, it's running an integrated high performance video card with a integrated chipset for non-game stuff. I think the newest driver is for not-integrated systems only. Like the site says that it makes exceptions for "hybrid power" intel PCs.
Also, the driver currently on my PC is from June the 12th. So it's not like it's years old.
Resisting the temptation to say "there's your problem".
Well, if someone else is having the same problem, I imagine you're no longer at fault. :tongue.gif:
The best I can recommend is play on the highest possible settings that are still playable for you, and hold out for a fix.
Oh yeah, of course. :tongue.gif: I would have bought a desktop if I wasn't on the go for my job; you're not talking to some computer ignoramus here. :wink.gif:
Yeah, I know how my laptop can't run everything at max settings. Trust me, my last computer could barely get 30 FPS at Minecraft on small fastest settings.
I play other games on my laptop too. And this laptop can actually do about 50 FPS on most games for medium-high settings. Seriously, I can run Battlefield Bad Company 2 at high settings in 1360X768 at 40 FPS. So my little laptop has some bite to it. :smile.gif:
Anyway, you're right, lowering the resolution often solves all problems. I'll try taking it down slightly to see if that fixes anything. But don't forget, I'm doing fancy, far, full-screen, fast FPS right now, and still getting 60 FPS 95% of the time. It just seems to me like my system is running fine, but something within Minecraft isn't quite running smoothly.
Thanks for the advice iSeven. I'll deal. Just thought I'd put it on the forums to see if anyone else was doing it or if it was just me. :tongue.gif:

Hmm. Tickle me intrigued. Are you/the game doing anything in particular when these lag spikes occur?

Not really anything special. It just seems to happen when I'm walking around doing usual minecraft stuff. Like I'm walking up the side of a mountain, looking at it. Then I freeze for the ten sec. then back to normal. It's not really a game breaking thing. Just kind of annoying.

Have you updated your graphics drivers?
