I wouldnt say an extreme boost, but the game does give me better fps, and no slowly becoming laggy over time. But i still suffer from lagspikes, but thats mostely relating to the saving to file all the time. :biggrin.gif:
I decided to check out the difference in FPS with the distance settings. I was at 52 fps on far and when I dropped to normal it got about 58 fps. That change is minor. But, I did get a boost when I dropped to short and tiny. My experience was that the change was minor.
I also noticed a huge improvement, I would get around 10 fps without optifine on my laptop, I'm getting 60 now.
Fix the crashes and get rid of ugly mineshafts that criss cross on 4 levels and this update will have been perfect for me.
I think that on windows it isn't running as smoothly, seeing how MOST people here are reporting fps drops. I'm positive they'll fix that, but it'll probably mess up for macs again. All we can do is wait and see.

i don't have the exact numbers but before 1.8 i couldn't play vanilla minecraft because of all the lag and i had to install otifine. now with 1.8 i have no lag issues expect when my world is generating new terrain.
