Currently sitting with 4 full stacks of Beef/Pork in my inventory. Only took about an hour to farm up. I now have a supply of regen/sprint that will last me for hours and hours and hours without having to feel like that "survival" aspect is breathing down my neck. I noticed that with a majority of the animals I kill it's almost a 100% drop rate on a food source - and there is never a shortage of animals. Now this may just be current in the leaked 1.18 build of Minecraft and maybe it will be adjusted for the official release - I just wanted to get everyone else's opinion and strike up a meaningful discussion on it.
My thoughts:
PROS
Surplus food to keep you underground longer (even though you can also eat Rotten Flesh)
Less of a time sink trying to gather food
CONS
Removes that overarching sense of "Survival" breathing down your neck
Almost infinite sprint/regen
I think they added way to much food. Don't get me wrong, I love having steak and chicken and all kinds of new stuff, but it's so easy to get, thats why it's bad.

I agree. I also think that food stacking to such high stacks is a bit odd. Food should stack to 8 or 16 and be a little bit harder from drops. Mushrooms can be grown into giant mushrooms, way too overpowered, find one and you have stacks of mushrooms only from a couple bonemeal. There could also be other options for food, such as scavenging berries or something other than simply mushrooms. Wild melons?
Really, I liked ALOT THE NEW FOODS.
But in my opinion, the little cows are dropping too many food.
About 3 beefs from one cow is pretty high value. Maybe 0-2 will be good.
I think all mobs must give you a maximum of 1 piece of meat, then the game will be harder like I like hahah...

There are animals in the game after night 1? O.o
Seriously, I've had zero luck on SSP or SMP finding animals after the first night or two. I've been farming up wheat and killing zombies for foods.
I disagree. I've spawned in a world where all I could find were sheep for miles, and i almost starved until I found an NPC village and stole all their wheat :happy.gif:

This situation seems few and far between as well as giving it more of a "survival" feel. If there was a reasonable middle ground (i.e. reduced drop rates) I think both sides of the isle would still be pleased.

Mobs don't have to drop something 100% of the time. Look at almost every RPG/MMORPG ever created. Items have drop rates for a reason.
