Alright, I understand people like things differently, but from 1.7.3 normal mode with TooManyItems and SMP Commands to 1.8 creative mode is like going from a brand new computer to windows 95. It's weird, it's inventory layout is awkward as heck and apparently is scrolling- it also only gives you one item at a time (One bucket of water when you're making a piston farming machine is annoying), jump/ fly is laggy and buggy, and you cant increase speed- that I've found. I normally ran too many items and used it in survival mode. After playing the 'new' creative mode, I'll probably stay in survival and mod for the same effect. Not to mention blowing up a block in one hit (ALL THE TIME) is severely annoying, I would rather have a "Mod Hammer" or something (How about a golden glove that's called the "Hand of Notch"), so I can left click my switches and not blow up the entire block with the redstone torch on it and everything- Not helpful at all.
What were you guys going for here, why not DIRECTLY import the too many items and SMP Commands INTO minecraft and call it creative? Why would you re-invent the wheel ...and the axle? The modding community has done this already- BETTER... and theirs is OLDER!
I haven't tried buckets yet, but any other item you put in your bar has unlimited amount even if it shows up as single. Buckets aren't the same?
Fly has been fine for me. It's a little slower than the mod but nothing buggy that I've found. Just takes getting the hang of.
The 1 hit destroy is amazing and at the same time annoying if you aren't careful. Why not just have it so it's only 1 hit destroy if you've got a pick in your hand. Otherwise make it like 5 hits for a safety buffer or something. But the major thing that annoys me is that I can hold down the left mouse button and I'll just go all crazy punching stuff into oblivion.. but when I go to build I can't hold down the right mouse button like I'm used too to place blocks. I have to click it every single time. That is the most frustrating thing about creative mode at the moment for me.

compare the first version of survival to the current version. Its a world of a difference.
So is creative mode all it could be right now? Perhaps not. The game in general is rather buggy at the moment, so I wouldn't read too much into things. Some of the issues are special cases; buckets, for instance. While establishing the framework for creative, he probably just overlooked details. It will probably be refined and fixed as time passes, just like any new feature. They have a lot on their plate that they are trying to deal with, refining creative mode is something they probably haven't had time for yet.
And as someone who has not used TMI and hence am not used to its layout, I found the layout of items in creative mode sensible enough. There is a logic to it, items are sorted into groups. Without knowing where an item is already, I can find it in a couple of seconds.
And the flying does increase speed. You have a gradual acceleration, so you can do fine manuevering when working with something, then fly across the landscape. Could it be improved? Sure. But I think most of the problem is that it is different from what you are used to, not that they are doing it fundamentally wrong.
Are you trying to suggest how creative mode should be, or are you just whining for the sake of whining?
Suggestions are welcome in these forums, whining is not.

A: There are no legal issues if they get permission not to mention notch added cookies after a modder did so apparently he doesn't care all to much.
B: I didn't see the lava or water blocks
C: to "you're a whiny baby" This is a forum, people come here to talk- logically since most people are not discussing facts they are left with only their opinion, vis a vis your opinion is as valid as mine in the internet world. Creative mode in 1.8 is TERRIBLE, if you like it- well then more power to you. But as for me, I like the good ol' fashioned not sucky minecraft, and have no reason to join the fan club and go "OMG MINECRAFT CANNOT FAIL EVAR! EVERYTHING NOTCH RELEASES IT PERFECT!!" ... it can fail, it can realize crappy content, because Notch is a man- and is therefore not perfect.
Minecraft is a great game, adding content- especially BIG content like NPCS and advanced farming and stuff is freaking EPIC. But if something sucks then it sucks- (apparently I need a disclaimer here- since people haven't figured out if it's not a fact then it's an opinion- either mine or someone elses... therefore)
Notch could have done a better job of creative mode- it feels tacked on, it has less features then some of the mainstream mods out there and lacks an overall look of polish- I understand this is a pre-release however as I am currently aware there are no intentions to upgrade the creative mode- therefore we can deduce this will be the final 'polished' form. If I personally was put in a position to directly modify this I would take the overall look of TooManyItems and add in SMP commands and add an additional item that breaks ALL blocks in one hit- thus allowing the creative individual the option to create in a manner that is both convenient and familiar

Wouldn't notch prefer to work on Adventure mode and anyways he can update it any time to improve it :tongue.gif:
It is the Minecraft source code that the modders are editing. I think that Mojang, the creators of minecraft would be allowed to use changes to their own code
I'm sure- well, I HOPE he will improve it however he asked for feedback and bug reports- since "I don't like this" isn't a bug I decided to come to the forums and start a thread about it. Hoping he'd see it and all that, honestly it's not that big of a deal to me, after playing on Creative mode for 3 minutes and feeling so awkward and non-minecrafty I deleted my world and forgot that option existed. I honestly will probably never roll another Creative mode world again. (Unless he comes out with a 'fix' for what's wrong with it)
The only problem I have now is TooManyItems in 1.8 is bugged and the background reflects the lighting around you. I.E. if it's nighttime and you're not by a torch good luck seeing the items you're trying to spawn they're all going to be dark black. I had to turn up my brightness, tilt my monitor down, and turn off the light behind me just to find the bed in it.
My whole thing is- you make new content, ideally you'd remove the need for mods. Because mods should be fun, or add unnecessary content they shouldn't provide a service that is superior to the one you offer. Especially if you had knowledge of that mod BEFORE you added new content.
this. this time a thousand. i'm someone who gets on minecraft, and builds stuff using mods. A friend of mine tried to argue that creative mode would be better than using mods, so I tried it. its not better, it's much, much worse. I can understand that this is a pre-release, and i thank Mojang and Notch for that, but if the only things that are getting fixed for this to the real 1.8 are bugs and a few tweaks, I and dissapoint. I full support creative mode, but make it right if your going to do it. I would prefer to see a modified inventory like TooManyItems than the current set-up, which forces me to scroll endlessly, looking for items. in short, its cool, but it could be much better.
I really don't understand the sentiment that they aren't going to fix it. 1.8 is not the full adventure update. It is the version that they have developed up to the current point, plus a few tweaks to make it playable. The pre-release is missing a lot of those tweaks. 1.9 should round up all of the content they didn't get in the adventure update yet. They have said very little about what is going to be in it, but I would be surprised if they didn't tweak the creative mode. It very obviously has problems and features that are not implemented correctly.
I really don't understand how you can look at it, and say "This has a ton of problems, but I don't think they are going to fix it." Notch very frequently revisits old features and improves them, even more-so for new features.

Legal issues
