I have a low end computer. I don't have a gaming rig because Minecraft (and Terraria) are literally the only games I play on the PC.
I have to use the toggle fog quite a bit to keep my PC from lagging and the framerate dropping. It basically reloads the world and stops the lag along with it. With the release of the 1.8 "leak" I decided to check it out only to realize that Notch wasn't joking when he said he removed it.
Now I have to go into the menu every time I need to reload the world. That is completely ridiculous. I don't see why he did it. I know I'm not alone on this... I've read a few threads here and other places with people complaining about the same thing.
But I don't get why. It's not even an OPTION to bind it to a key now. I cannot deal with constantly having to go into the menu. Tapping the fog key was a simple solution to a simple problem, and he just removed it.
I'm just hoping he puts it back in when the inevitable 1.8.1, 1.8.2, and 1.8.3. releases. If not... I can't play Minecraft anymore.
Yeah , what was notch thinking , if he dont want to press it by mistake because it being near the D key , he can just move it to another key , like L or something like that.
the pre release lags , and i hate having to pause the game every 5 - 10 minutes just because notch decided that he dont like mistakes when playing , so he removes the entire features.
If i have problems with blocks , he will remove them also?
There will be a mod to add it back in. Guarantee it.
Oh I'm sure there will be, but that's not the point. I shouldn't have to mod my installation just to make it playable. I don't like being dependant on mods for obvious reasons (I have other installations of MC for that).
I just don't understand why he did this. It makes no sense to me. At first I assumed it was for a new fog system, but no, it's still the same four levels as always.
Notch has said that a render distance toggle will replace the fog toggle if I remember correctly, though might not have come with the pre-release. I can't provide source unfortunately:/
Umm... Go into the video settings and change your view distance there? I thought we already covered this.
Did you not read all of the OP? I directly explained why it was a problem.

Any "benefit" you got from it was purely observation bias. Run on Tiny.
No it's not. It's the way the world loads. As more chunks pop in, the slower my PC (and other low-end PCs) run. Tapping the F key resets how many chunks have loaded visuallly, and thus reduces lag. This is a fact.
Lol, none of you even bothered going into the options.
I've been into the options plenty of times. Unless there's a secret way to replace the KEY which I'm talking about, then there is no solution to be found in there.
But by all means elaborate if you can fix this problem via the options menu.
Having to take 5 seconds out of your busy life, you poor dear, you poor poor dear.
Do you really not understand what I'm saying? Tapping the key was an instant (albeit temporary) fix. Having to go into the options menu and stopping the game every so often to toggle the fog back down is just extremely tedious and irritating.
I don't see how removing an option for players can be looked upon so... lightly. Lots of players use the F key, and now we can't. How can you possibly defend this decision? It was there for those who needed it, and no one was ever forced to use it.
I agree with OP, im also in the same boat as u, my computer is crap lol and i depend on constantly adjusting my render distance.. but that just became a lot more of a hassel :| i rlly do hope he just puts it back. and i dont complain much, this is my only complaint about minecraft so far.
Or you know, spend $500-700 for a decent PC for games in general.
I don't play PC games enough to justify it. I don't particularly like PC gaming. Minecraft is all I play (well, and Terraria but it's been months). I dont' have $500 to drop, and I certainly wouldn't drop it on a PC if I had it.
I trully cannot believe people are mentioning this as a solution.

Just for reference's sake, what exactly are we running Minecraft on here? It's not a very demanding game, so I'm a bit curious.

Its annoying and kind of pointless to have to do that when you have an already established system that works.
Did you not read all of the OP? I directly explained why it was a problem.
Wrong.

And now it's gone completely for whatever reason.

Not true. I use the same system, and it really is unplayable without it.
By the way, I actually have a really good computer, so I'm not sure what causes the problem.
Definitely.
