Yesterday I saw Notch's livestream and wondered, "Zombies drop rotten flesh? What does that do?"
So, I'm very curious as to what people think they do.
I know nothing about it is confirmed yet, but still, what do you guys think it'll do?
Speculations, speculations.
I think they're going to be a new food, but that would be sort of odd to eat.
Maybe a bait? Don't know, just tossing ideas around.

No one knows.
I hope we can eat it. Then get sick, and turn into a zombie ourselves, and mindlessly hunt other players and eat them too! That would be fun actually if done right... kind of like the WOW WOTLK event, but not so grief-happy...
More seriously, Food, Fertilizer, or... alchemy maybe? About all I can imagine a undead piece of flesh being used for.
Frankly, it's amazing that nobody has given us word on what this item does.
BUT, I do know one thing: It cannot be cooked. Which means, you probably can't eat it.
Yeah, I'm just guessing fertilizer. It would take some of the pressure off of bones.

some other possibilities:
-Bait for other mobs, or works like boomer bile to distract mobs (you throw it aside, and they go after it for a few sec, letting you escape)
-Bait for other mobs, except it works like a pacifier. You right click a hostile with it, and that hostile becomes neutral to you for a few sec, letting you escape.
-Goes into crafting recipe of some sort that's useful while you're in a dungeon or underground
-Something something eater of worlds something bosses in 1.8
-Fertilizer for mushrooms only. Right click a dirt block, up sprout some mushrooms in a radius around the dirt. Kinda like applying bonemeal to a grass block, tallgrass and flowers and seeds sprout up in a radius. Very helpful for food underground, provided you have enough wood left over for a bowl. Usual grow restrictions apply, if you use it on a dirt block in bright light, mushrooms appear but then pop out of the ground instead of growing and spreading
Maybe if you eat it zombies spawn? Or it could be used in some sort of ritual to summon the eater of worlds. But it will probably be the new slime ball now that they have a use.
By the way, do cows still drop leather now that they drop beef as well? (I think?)
Maybe flesh is used to make leather armor now?
Nah, leather is still in the item selection. Cows and chickens (Cartoon Cartoon!) both drop two items now, similar to skeletons. In fact, has anyone checked to see if saddles can be crafted in the PAX demo?

Or possibly, craft it into clothes, and disguise yourself so mobs won't attack you.
Just my guesses
Eat it to restore hunger, but lose 2 hearts

In soviet russia, zombies eat YOU. Same with pretty much everywhere else. Except minecraft.
That would be cool but it would destroy the need to kill cows :/ i think that we need only pigs to drop meat because now its too easy to get food.

...what? Did you expect something funny?
cf. @protato_ who's currently helping out at the PAX booth.
So I guess that means that a) you can eat rotten flesh and :cool.gif: it poisons you (?)
Kinda like that episode of the Walking Dead where they made themselves smell like death to get past the walkers
