Those new mobs certainly look freaky, I like them, personally. Also, I don't think that they will be able to pick up blocks out of your base, for all we know, these could be part of the NPC villages and they are just picking up blocks to build a house, although I doubt it.
Now that would be awesome. I imagine going back to a previously visited village, and seeing another house in the works. And maybe if you helped them build, like giving them materials, they caould give you something in return.
I can't find an old quote from Notch saying that his NPC given Quests would work like:
- Get to village
- NPC is standing with a speech bubble over his head with Bacon x4 in it.
- YOu bring him 4 Bacons
- They give you something in return.
Regarding to the new mob, just one thing: Holy Flying Crap. They're creepy indeed. I'm also curious to see how they interact with the world. I'm very excited for this update.
THeir look, long legs anr arms, tiny body, just adds to the creepy factor. Looks like something I've drawn recently.

Shockwave disapproves of your futile attempts to deny his logic. (A.K.A.: I think you're dumb)

I can't wait for this update. I really want to check out the new lighting system
Also... I think that the new mob can pick up blocks from the ground and throw them... I don't know how this would work, but it would be kinda cool :biggrin.gif:
I'm not sure what to think of those guys yet, but they certainly look cool!
I would like to see some hostile day mobs still. Daytime is a bit bland. Spiders, skeletons, zombies, dark shadow figures. We get it, night time is scary. Give us a little adventure in the daytime. An occasional jackal, a stray komodo dragon, an evil little magic imp creature, etc. It doesn't all have to be stuffed into the night time.

Yes, I completely agree- packing everything into the night is pretty cheap.
See now I'm not so sure, I still don't feel that afraid at night and I want a very very creepy mob that will send a shiver down your spine and send you back inside when you witness it. I'm hoping this mob will fill that role.
We're not saying that they shouldn't add this mob. This mob is pretty cool. We're just saying, yunno, not all the adventure has to be stuffed into the night time. We could use the occasional hostile day mob.

mo creatures has a couple mobs that do that (were-wolves and flaming ghosts) but both of them are more annoying than challenging (were-wolves require 10 hits with a gold sword to kill, and flaming ghosts dance up and down on your head whilst they light you on fire)
hopefully notch makes any new mobs challenging and fun, not challenging and annoying

That does give me a neat idea
Sine these guys are completly black, what if they are intrisic to darkness? They fade away in light, only to return when darkness falls. This would have some interesting implications:
When daylight comes, they would fade out, only to return at night.
If they do pick up blocks from the world, having lighting on your house would protect it from them.
Them holding blocks is very suggestive, but its suggestive of so many possible things its impossible to tell what it means. Are they picking up blocks? Are they putting blocks down? Do they do both? What prompts them to use the blocks? What are they doing with it?
One thing we can say for sure is they seem to be a mob unique to minecraft, which is something people have been clamoring for. They also have really good visual design(In my opinion, at least), which is a complaint I often see against minecraft.
yeah sorry here is the source: https://plus.google.com/116872576248355504859/posts/DrjzbDobiws
they are completely black to make them look extra creepy, just pairs of white eyes staring at you in the dark o.o

However the first think I saw when I saw the new mobs was "DRR DRR"

I call them Slendys.
Oh and I know other people have done this already but here is an adjusted level version of the image cropped to focus on the mob.
Check out my texture pack
Notch says "The new mob I've been working on."
Before, he said that "Jens is working on a new mob."
This means that each one is making a new mob!
I'm guessing Jeb was working on the Silverfish, while Notch is working on the creepy block-holding slenderman demons.

Then they'll run around all LULZ XD

I really want a komodo dragon X)
