Again, whatever WATER should do might as well be added forever as status as with ONE bucket of water and ONE bottle, you have INFINITE water to drink and with that, any effect water has, lasts forever.
You make a good point. Lots of stuff changed to make way for the hunger mechanic, though, so I think Jeb would likely change around how water works to accommodate thirst, too.
Side note: This fact likely means that Jeb won't add thirst.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
Why does it have to be super challenging to restore it?
._.
Besides two buckets take up two inventory slots. Water is everywhere, it would never be a challenge to restore thirst. They shouldn't try to make it difficult if they ever added it.
There isn't a lot of point to it... It could make your food go down faster when you're thirsty, and when you're really dehydrated you can't sprint and the FOV starts to change. It would have some nice dehydration effects.
Those effects wouldn't be hard to remedy. either find some water source blocks, or drink a bottle or two. Drinking would only restore so much, while submerging yourself would restore gradually like health regen.
Bindal (and almost everyone else who opposes a thirst meter) appears to be stuck on the ease of obtaining water, what we have to keep in mind though is IF they added a "thirst meter" or IF they added a benefit for drinking odds are they'd force us to purify or distill the water, or get it from a "fresh water" block or else we'd risk poisoning, a "thirst" effect similar to eating rotten flesh, or a dehydration effect(this can happen from drinking sea water)
Quite honestly I do not support a thirst meter while I do support a benefit from occasional drinking/drinking with food and that I also support a "purification process" for the water to become "safe", as my previous posts have made clear.
I don't think it even matters really. An easy to handle mechanic wouldn't make the game worse, only add depth. You could say that the extra depth is unnecessary and it probably is. That's a valid argument.
It seems more like you're too fixated to get it just for the heck to have another bar, **** if it makes the game worse.
If you are directing that at me you are not reading my posts as I clearly disagree with a Thirst bar, I do think that drinking having a benefit would be quite a nice addition if implemented correctly, such as needing to process the water before consumption to avoid the "Bucket and Bottle" or "Double Bucket" arguments you keep bringing up.
And if you are talking to Kyoshinda I feel he can adequately defend his points himself.
I for one kinda do and not want thirst but if there is.
All the water you get is salt water. In order to make it drinkable you have to boil it. It then becomes fresh water. You can drink the fresh water to regain a water bar or something. To collect fresh water you can make something to collect rain water. salt water would not regain anything and might give you food poisoning.
You would have a 3 or 4 water bars added to health or something. Once you run out of hunger you start losing HP like normal but if you run out of thirst a and hunger you would lose HP faster and *COULD* die. If hunger and water bar is full I guess you can sprint longer or not lose hunger as fast. Having just the water bar full wont really help as much.
This makes water not a thing you have to look for but just kinda a boost if you do look after it
Thirst? You serious? At least when they added hunger, the trade off was that your health will regenerate if the hunger bar is 18/20 points and above. What kind of trade off will thirst bring IF (note: I said IF) it comes?
Dental health meter: You need to brush your teeth regularly or you take damage when eating.
Adrenaline meter: The closer enemies are the the better you fight but if it reaches full you auto-run-away screaming like a little girl.
Mental health meter: If you don't hug villagers every once in a while you go mad from loneliness!

Hey, that might give pigs a better use. Pork is healthier than red meat from cows, right? Both satisfy your hunger, but constantly eating steak gives you a chance that you might have a heart-attack and die randomly while mining.
Side note: This fact likely means that Jeb won't add thirst.

Just a simple version of that would be interesting, all it needs is a benefit.
Really I wouldn't mind this if Jeb allowed the idea above as an alternative to drinking.

If the hydration bar had a benefit I wouldn't see why not.

Do you honestly enjoy doing pointless tasks that take you away from building/mining/exploring?
-GOD NO PLEASE NO NO NO NO DON'T ADD THIRST OR BREATHING TO THIS GAME THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN CONTAMINATED.
