A question now more important then ever. Do they only accept pre-generated structures, houses that are exact copies of the pre-generated ones or will we be able to construct entire apartment blocks for them to populate?

Well, after enjoying Minecraft for a long time I finally broke down and contributed back: exactly one adventure map. TRY IT NOW! YAY! Fall of Kingdoms
Making a house its really cheap, of course i wont make a house for them like th eone in the picture but i dont want it to have stupid pre-requisites. What would they need, a roof to cover from rain, a door to protect them from monsters, more than enough!
I do think Beds should be added as what they consider a house, since it gives them more "real" traits as any home is where you can sleep... which is another thing I hope they can do in the future.
Yes literally this, but you still can get it simplified, take these damned walls out! Then it's still a roof+door, and yes it will still be recognised as a house :tongue.gif:
Wow... you are right
I guess, pre-requesites should be added... but still nothing to fancy, i dont want it like terraria, that makes you put specific stuff on it... it should be walls, door and roof, no matter what material, or probably exclude dirt and such...
I'm making an adventure map and I really don't want villagers to spawn inside my abandoned dungeons, ancient crypts and forbidden libraries. I hope there's some future way to stop them from spawning. =S

They do not spawn after the terrain is generated.
And in generation they only spawn in their villages.
So they will never spawn in your house.
The do not spawn in houses, they just get in if they can...
Unless you purposely bring them to your abandoned dungeon and they would " breed " and multiplicate.

Well unless you're building an "ancient crypt" in the middle of an NPC village, you've got nothing to worry about.
They still seem to get confused if you add a door to the default smithy, they will crowd around in the open area under the roof and won't actually go inside at night.
Is there any minimum size for the houses? I want to make one of those compact Japanese hotels.

The pathfinding you mean? If there is no door then that's not a house, so it would work for a barn yes. But I have fence gates as part of the ... fence system. It would look a bit strange for the barns to have fence gates, and you know the eye is a importand factor on how to build :_).
My meaning was some type of 'temp-fix' to prevent them from settling in utility buildings. Eye-sore factor aside, I'll take this as confirmation that it will work until a more elegant solution presents itself.
Wait...SERIOUSLY?! Huzah! Finally! I can make an inhabited city! I can hardly wait to use this as an official update! I just hope they make them require some other things, like walls and a bed/crafting table.

They arn't their own biome, and they tend to wander around =).
The wander around quit a lot if you don't design a area for them to life in.
OH MY GOD, why the HELL can you not type properly?

note: Then I mention a group of people in my posts, i mean the majority of information i have seen from that group, and my statement may not be accurate for every individual in that group.
How do they react to an iron door? Do they crowd around it, or just ignore that building? While it might get annoying to have iron doors on barns and such, it would at least be a way to have a private house inside a village.

for the epic creations.
My question is, is there a size limit to how big the village can be?
Remember kids, when the mod crashes delete system32!
Curious; what is their behavior in regards to a building that is closed with a fence gate instead of a door?
