I generated a new world on 12w08a and started exploring around. When i reached a swamp i saw this:
Dont you find something VERY strange? Besides being VERY flat (swamps arent always flat), most of the trees are gone.
Okey ive been generating MANY new worlds on 18w08a and i confirmed this is happening each time. Another weird thing i found is that i didnt saw ANY pine tree forest on all the generated worlds. Its very common to spawn on a pine tree biome when you generate a new world and i NEVER spawned in one of them and when i look for them... there are any.
Forest also seem to hyave less tree abundance and the plain trees seems to be like old times, almost none.
Swamp trees usually only grow in water anyways, this makes sense to me.(at least I think that's how it is in rl)
Swamps are a strange mix of land and muddy land, some of them with a lot of trees around and very difficult to go through them because of the shallow/deep muddy water, muddy land and trees with branches everywhere.
Maybe we could have a nice transition if a mangrove swamp would be added. That transition might be placed between jungles and swamps and swamps and forest.
Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but I've found all the forest biomes now have unusually SHORT trees, some aren't even off the ground at all. I checked 3 different generated worlds and it happened in all of them. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about, the trees are hugging the ground:
Just played 1.2 prerelease, seems all these issues are still there.
1. Swamps have very few trees.
2. Pine forest biomes are nowhere to be found.
3. Forest biomes are made up almost entirely of very short trees.
4. Giant trees or "old growth forests" are nowhere to be found.
It is not a bug, trees are smaller and less common now, and biomes are smaller. That is a good thign.

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can't love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?" –Rick Santorum

I can confirm the above are true as I have found this issue in every snapshot since the Anvil update. I will add a few things though.
1) Swamps only generate trees in 1 block deep water and nowhere else.
2) Pine forest biomes still exist, they just don't generate any pine trees in them.
3) and 4) All oaks trees (in any biome that contains them, not just forests) are 5 blocks tall or less, no branching trees are generated on world creation. Result is very short forests.
And some other errors
5) Birch trees are basically non-existant /missing.
6) Giant Mushrooms do not generate in mushroom biomes.
So that leaves the jungle biome as the only biome that has normally growing trees ... and I'm not too certain if some of the 1 block wide trees are growing to the average height they did in the updates before anvil.
Mojang better not release 1.2 until this one is fixed ...

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
Yeah, this tree generation thing bothers me a lot. I assumed that it was one of the bugs 1.2 was supposed to fix, but I generated acouple of worlds in the snapshot today and did some wandering around in creative mode. Still stumpy/goofy looking regular trees, ZERO birch or pine trees in any biome, and I hate the way the swamps look now. (I actually have always liked the swamps. But not having any trees on the land looks weird to me...)
I hope they fix this, I won't want to use 1.2 to generate any new terrain if there is no proper taiga. It's just very weird.
The 'bushes' that generate now in normal forest biome wouldn't be bad as kind of a mini-biome or scrubland that appears near plains or bordering proper forests, but it looks derpy when it's every forest biome like this.

Wait, so this is with the 1.2 preview? (haven't had a chance to test it for myself)
It may be something that is fixed for 1.2 though because I don't think the new blocks in the terrain.png have been implemented into the 1.2 preview. This means either they're keeping them for a future update (don't think Jeb would do that sort of thing) OR the 1.2 preview isn't as updated/completed as we all assume...

I ment to say i generated a new world on 12w08a =/

I didnt found 1 single pine forest yet just big flat and hollow snow biomes. I find this very strange it must be a bug.
I have only seen a couple of pines and I've seen NO natural big trees -with the normal wood- in forests (or any biome for that matter)

No, Just No.
the only place you can find the giant oaks now is in the jungles with the jungle trees. any oaks in the land are stumpy things.
it makes the height feel short to me even though its high.

Oh well, we'll find out tomorrow I guess!
