I know that in the snapshots, the new Jungle biome will only spawn in worlds generated after it was released, and thus continuing to explore an older map would not generate newly implemented terrain/biomes. I also remember that there was some people saying that this would be "fixed" in the official 1.2 release, generating the sheer cliffs and slightly offset water elevation those of us who play on older maps are aquainted with.
Does the 1.2 (or pre-release) actually change that? A lot of map generation/memory storage has changed since the jungles were first added in, such as the Anvil format, and I'm wondering if I'll need to use something to load the old chunks into a new seed.
I also want to know if its possible to get new (Jungle) biomes in 1.1 worlds. I just recently started a 1.1 SMP Hamachi server for me and my fiance and have done a LOT of work on it in just a mere week and a half. Would hate to have to scrap it all in order to enjoy the newer content.
I have a world from alpha and the jungles generated in newly generated land there. You just have to explore new lands in the same world, just like most other changes.
The only thing to date that doesn't generate on old worlds are strongholds because of the ridiculous limit of 3 all within 1km of spawn, so they can't generate in new lands if you ever explored much at all.

Evidence suggests that many people quote posts without reading them in their entirety.
Still no infinite strongholds D:
