There already is a 12w07b.

Update! New version number is 12w07b, fixing the following problems:
Crash bug corrupting levels when spawning mobs above the 255th block
Sheep animation is correct in SMP

I think I'm going to wait for the bugs to be fixed before I try the new things. Hopefully they'll fix the bugs before next week.
