Place cats around your house and your house is protected forever from creepers. That's why creepers exist : to have a danger for your constructions. That will be too easy ! Creepers will lose all their interests. Even now, creepers aren't much trouble. I think that even at hard, the game is too easy.
EDIT : Ok, I admit I posted that too fast : I didn't know that cats can be killed by other monsters, but I also learned that we can breed them. So, when they die, you can easily put other cats instead and it's the same problem.
That's why I modded creepers to be more difficult on top of the fact since I'm using a mod there are no cats yet.
They did need a reason to add cats, not just add them for the hell of it. Out of all the things this was probably the best way to add them even if it did upset the balance even more then it already has.
I think that creepers being afraid of cats is cool. Though it shouldn't be a catch-all, necessarily. For example, I was thinking that if the cat instead made a sound when a creeper came within ten blocks of it, that'd still be invaluable. Imagine having an actual warning when creepers were near, down in the deep places of the world.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
Plus, you won't be staying at your house for a lot of time. When you're building away, mining or adventuring, there's the danger of a creeper. And more, you were already safe at your home so nothing changes.
Don't say "but you can take the cat with you!". He'll die quick.
* Creepers have a plant like appearance.
* Notch even described them as sounding like crinkly leaves once, I believe.
Ergo, Creepers in their natural habitat live in forests/jungles. Explosions could have evolved as a way to clear paths through the dense vegetation.
* Creepers are scared of cats.
* Cats are natives to jungles.
Ergo, cats/ocelots are natural predators of creepers.
It's not that overpowered. First of all, you need to find a jungle, which I still haven't found. Then you would need a decent sum of fish (use for fishing rod FTW) and THEN you have to catch the darn thing which are hard to find anyway, let alone catch one. Yes, cats shouldn't have been added for the heck of it, however I honestly can't think of any other way to implement them. Besides, have you ever met a cat? Those things are scary!
I think its a good idea. Cats have a purpose and you are able to make it easier to fight creepers. The only thing I dislike is that wolves and cats are breedable - I don't like that because there's no point in searching for more cats/wolves when you've found two of them.
Even at hard, creepers are very easy to fight. I don't see why they should be easier ! I checked on Minecraft wiki and yes, we may breed them. I didn't know that. That's worse than I thought.
But cats could be killed by zombies or skeletons. You have to protect your cat. It is not easy.

I think cats would be better if they warned you of approaching mobs, which is to say mobs that are pathing to you. They'll hiss and point towards the nearest mob that's locked onto you, prioritizing in this order if multiple mods are pathing to you. In the case of multiple mods of the same priority pathing towards you, they'll point to the closest one.

The comments "don't use" are current. If everyone don't use and don't comment, the game will not become better. Cats need to have a better utility.

Why it would change when it's finished ? That's already in the game !
That's why I'm talking about : to make it change for 1.2 !
No, because they would fight back at the wolves. Plus their AI was complete **** when 1.4 was first released.

After you breed them and you have 999999999999999999 cats.
