Zombies only break doors on hard mode. People play on hard because they want the game to be harder. If someone wants it to be harder, but then just makes it easy again through other means... Well, that's stupid. Basically, it boils down to the old "use it if you want it, don't if you don't."
I think the idea is great. Add's to the linear progression to the game, or means that you should be more creative as to making doors. (I used a simple redstone gate :tongue.gif:)
Now, I don't see how this at all makes wooden doors worthless. It just adds to the pros-cons to making either a wood or iron door.
Wood:
Pros-
Cheap, effective, and doesn't require extra parts. Adds to "wooden" theme.
Cons-
Burns, zombies can break them, and can be stolen.
Iron:
Pros: Safer, only broken by a pick, more 'specific' to open (levers/buttons)
Cons-
Costs iron, Requires 'specific' openers, and might not fir with 'wooden' themes.
An admitted interesting concept to test, but are you sure it's not simply due to them being severally pissed off at doors?
Well, I stared at one as it burned next to one of the test houses for door destruction/villager slaughter.
It broke the door and stood in the frame, then it walked outside accidentally and died.

The greatest illusion is the existence of a unique truth.
The only problem I see with it is with the villagers... Zombies will break down their doors and try to kill them. I hope in the future they can defend themselves.
I think the idea is interesting, but the fact that you CAN just set a dirt block in front of the door and be safe is kind of lame. I'd let zombies dig through more blocks so that at least if you're going to put a block in their way it has to be something substantial. Then you'd think twice about doing it and try to plan out a better front door that won't require you to block yourself in.
While I do think this new mechanic is interesting, I agree that it really doesn't make it much harder since if I get really concerned for my own survival I will place a block down as a stopper, I don't play survival to die now do I. The idea of zombies digging through blocks, I'd say that's encroaching a little to far into the creative aspect of survival mode. Improving the A.I. is a better way to go for mob's being challenging.

The digging would only be on hard mode, not normal or easy.

What if zombies tried to break into your home, or outposts, and waited for you?

Started a new world. This feature rarely affects gameplay.
The only situations where this can happen:
1. You on-purposely bring the Zombie to your door
2. The Zombie roams aimlessly to your door. As far as I know, the AI was tweaked so that hostile mobs don't roam around as often. They just stand around. It'll most likely despawn or roam somewhere else before it even gets to you.
Also, Zombies need to actually see you to aggro. It's not an automatic system like it used to be. They'll forget about you if they don't see where you're going.
Also keep in mind that there is a set range from the player where mobs can actually spawn. That distance is far enough to were mobs won't attack you.
I guess if you're being chased and don't feel like fighting the zombie, it's a problem. But seriously, it's not hard to kill a zombie.
Zombies should be tweaked to hunt you down, nothing extreme. But I remember in beta, when I made my 2nd main mining camp, I had a huge fence around it, and mobs were always bouncing and freaking out trying to get to me, now I never see them almost.

Ahem..... You know why doors were added? Well, all the way back in VERY early alpha stages, people had to block up their entrances with dirt. To make it so players wouldn't have to block up their house entrance with dirt to keep monsters out, Notch added doors. Now when I'm playing hardmode/hardcore, I'll basically just need to start dirting up my doors during the night... again. How in ANY way did this add any difficulty? I mean, all you do is place one block in front of the door, or heck, just make an entrance that requires a few jumps. *Sigh*

Retesting now.
Edit: Confirmed. But their AI resets once they're inside. They might accidentally come out.

It's in hard mode only. If you don't want zombies to destroy stuff, then play on normal or easy.
The sad, rotting remains of those zombies, oppressed by villagers.

meh
Also can anyone tell me if zombies can break fence gates?
I read that and thought "Zombies...the BANE of doors..."
But seriously, I do like where Jeb is going, and I hope to see more things like this, it's only a testing snapshot, so who knows what will be next

If I were in charge I'd keep going until noone wants to survive a night in hard mode. The creepers will surround your home :tongue.gif:
