The other workarounds are for the case you want a door (or even doubledoor) which works like the current one - you go there, press the left or right mouse to open it, go through door and close it the same fashion.
However, if you just want to keep stuff outside, dirtblocks will do just fine as well. And THOSE are hardly and kind of challenge to gather.
Bindal, there are MONSTERS outside your house. Their not fluffy bunnys that sometimes nibble at your finger.
Seriously, build a fence, put up iron doors or go play in creative mode. It took me less than five minutes to put up a quick aesthetically pleasing fence around my porch. I still have a wooden door.
If a zombie is incapable of pathing to you or a door, then they slowly start to dig at the blocks between you and it. They would only dig if they were already chasing you, and only on hard mode.
This would keep them from randomly destroying the world, and would remove the ability to become truly invincible.
Which still leaves the problem you seem to happily ignore: That you either have to deal with ugly constructions OR with a overly complicated system for something as simple as a ****ING DOOR!
I don't appreciate being yelled at. *leaves thread*
I don't know about you, but when I start a new world, I don't run off to make a dirt house. I find wood, I make a wooden house, I put a wooden door down, and in this case, I would elevate my house and have stairs lead to the door. Zombies may have a hard time going along stairs to get to your door, which they are not actively seeking out unless you aggro'd them. Give me time and I can figure out a house design that is 100% safe from zombies, requires nothing but walking and opening a wooden door. I have one in mind, and may have to use the design once I play 1.2, so there.
So, which ones are there? I can't think of a single option. A fence and douzand torches - yay, vietnam 'round the late 60s in small scale!
Before you come up with any suggestion, please remember that I want one, which fullfills the EXACT SAME THING as the wooden door:
Cheap in price (only a few renewable resources in total)
Easy in use (means you can leave and enter your house with one mouseclick to unlock it and a second to lock it again)
100% safe
Visually pleasing with the most types of houses - blockhouse, castle, anything.
Not requiring lot of space (2x2x1 ideally, 4x4x2 max)
I think you should abandon the notion of such selfish-tailorment in the form of what's been altered. Those are some oddly specific requirements.
Bindal you just contradicted yourself about 9 times in your last post. You complain about zombies being able to break down doors are nothing annoying, then you complain that every solution is easy, then you complain that there are no solutions as easy as a wooden door.
It seems zombies are attracted to any wooden door, so I set one up outside my house. Just the door, no walls no nothing. Zombies flock to it like moths to a light. Next day I place another door outside, but this time with 2 trap doors on either side connected with a redstone circuit to my house with a switch. I just look out the window, push the button, and they fall into a small 3 deep put. Its amazing how many will fit in the same hole. Then when the sun comes up I head out with my sword and wail on them for a while, I think the sunlight took out a few too. Now if i can find some lava, I will set up a mob trap with a sign. The zombie meat is good to heal dogs.
It's barely a threat. The chances of a Zombie spawning close enough to aggro on you inside your house is impossible, I guess if he roamed from somewhere else, but still.

Well, since hostile mobs don't wander around when passive anymore, I doubt that would happen.
the zombies breaking down the doors and the new villager AI give the villages a much more immersed feeling. Watch as a pack of zombies go from house to house breaking the doors down and chasing the villages down until they are killed. it is pretty awesome
We'll talk when they start breaking through dirt and gravel too.
Don't think you can just hide behind that stuff, because now you're taking advantage of what will soon be considered an exploit. Exploits will be taken care of soon enough.
I think the way to solve this is to describe what is hard in minecraft. This can range to having to mine a lot to get good tier weapons, dieing from mobs often, using redstone, building a great house, etc. This shows that there are different types of hard and each player has different views on what is hard or a challenge. Some people are challenged to survive, some to level up, others just to build, but how do we please all? That is the question you should be debating over.
I think that it is a bad idea as it makes wooden doors worthless unless you do something like this in witch it is there for looks(superflat for clarity)
As it takes like 30 seconds to do this, and the zombies won't even try to get to you.
Let's have creepers open doors and see what people think.

"Science isn't a matter of WHY, it's a matter of WHY NOT? WHY is so much of our science dangerous? Why don't you marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why don't you invent a special safety door that won't slam you in the butt on your way out? BECAUSE YOU ARE FIRED!" -Cave Johnson

I agree that it'd be a more realistic survival game if zombies could break blocks to get to the player, but it would really ruin the creative aspects to SSP for a lot of people (including myself). Not only are they considering the difficulty balance for survivalists, but they're also considering the value of people's creations. Remember when Endermen could steal blocks from player creations? It was pandemonium. I know I hated it.

Or you could waste your entire night in Minecraft by making a wall around your city/structure and patrol it.

The greatest illusion is the existence of a unique truth.

I'd rep you, but I'm out for the day.

Well of course not, what you've asked for is the impossible. Your point is moot.
Well, since hostile mobs don't wander around when passive anymore, I doubt that would happen.
I hope they change that back. It's dull.
