Sometimes you may not be home either to block your doors up.
It is one of those things that is small and insignificant as you pointed out, but its so small you may let it slip your mind... then there will be hell to pay ;-)
This does not make the game harder, really. It is only a minor annoyance that makes all doors (including Iron, but that is a bug), besides complex ones, utterly pointless on Hard/Hardcore.
Why do people who love stupid design decisions always try to turn the argument into a personal attack on those who stand against their position?
This is a stupid development to the game. I don't care if you love it like no tomorrow. It's stupid. It's a bad, stupid idea.
I bet it get's undone.
Dude, Whiplashr. Please stand back from the computer for just a second. Just a second. Isn't it what you're trying to do? You're trying to also enforce stuff on people as well. Some people like it, some people don't. You're part of one half, I'm part of another. Why do you need to bash all haters (or reverse) to make yourself feel satisfied?
1) Overall it makes Zombies more intimating.
2) It makes two things more useful. Iron Doors and Fences.
See, Is there any reason at all before this change to ever have an Iron Door, I mean really? Now Iron Doors have a purpose as exterior doors. And even then, Fences make it so that you could simply make a fenced in yard, Thus far more Zombie safe.
Overall, It's for two modes only, I honestly like the idea that they are making more changes just for the harder modes. I hope Endermen get nu-nerfed for these modes as the next change.
I LOVE this update. I'm hoping they expand it to include fence gates and glass as well, maybe a few blocks too.
As far as difficulty, there is definitely a difference. My first encounter with this feature was in a village, waiting out the night on the roof of one of the 3 story stone buildings. I wasn't expecting a zombie to attack the door since I was well out of aggro range on the roof. Then I heard the awful banging start. I rush downstairs just in time to see the door break and the zombie enter... followed by a creeper. Between the zombie and the small room, I couldn't fight the creeper safely and it ended up blowing the front wall off the building. My situation was suddenly much worse than just fighting an easy zombie.
Are there easy workarounds? Sure. But that doesn't stop this from being my favorite update in a long time. It's very immersive, and frankly pretty creepy, to hear something that wants to kill you banging against your door. I can't wait to see where they go with this and I really hope the whiners don't ruin it for the rest of us.
I REALLY REALLY hate to say this, but if you actually want a challenge, don't exploit the game's mechanics. Use a door as a door, not some dirt. It helps nothing if you come and complain about how the game is broken and needs to be fixed NAOW if the problem is that you are doing something you weren't supposed to in the first place. If you actually want the difficulty boost, then use the game mechanics the right way instead of whining about how you found a way to break them.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Random acts of petty fanboyish hatred?

--That's the thing about difficulty though, there's always the flawed temptation. No game's difficulty should have holes in it. What I'm basically saying is, everything about a difficulty needs to be unavoidable if you are unprepared or being foolish. Using things like mushroom trees if you run out of food or stacking blocks in front of your door might happen to people that want challenge but then flake at the last minute.
Surround your 'home' with a decorative fence. Step away ten paces, and place a wooden door. Just a random wooden door.
Now the fun part: just bare with me a second, wire up some trap doors around this door.
Now attached to these trap doors? Make a redstone line back to your home; with a switch next to your door.
Zombies go for the delicious, exposed wooden door? Activate your trap and drop them in a hole. The sun will do the rest in the morning.
Not the most elegant, but I'm sure there are some more talented engineers out there who can take and run with the concept.
It's just a snapshot.... They are looking for constructive feedback. If there is something imbalanced about a new mechanic identify it, and tweet it to Jeb/Jon. Don't just say it's broken, I hate it. That's not helpful to anyone. They aren't going to remove something that isn't finished from the game, because of some vague complaint.
If you don't like something use the proper channels to get the word out. The concept as a whole has nothing wrong with it, especially if they are only breaking down the door to get to you or the villagers and the villagers only if they can defend themselves. It doesn't make wooden doors useless, it is intended to make a safe haven a little less safe. If you're too lazy to do something about the zombie at your door, then you should try another difficulty, because the game isn't about hiding in a corner waiting for the monsters to go away.
I think the addition of zombies breaking down doors is awesome. You can still use them for your entire house, just light up far enough outside that zombies won't spawn.
And that way basicly remove the chance to get free arrows at every morning as well as a free, cheap (albeit not very effective) food-resource as well as the asthetics of the entire nearby envoirement due a flood of torches.
NOT a trade worth it.
Did anyone else read this as: 'Wah! Don't take my free welfare away!'?

Fighting ignorance and false information one post at a time.
For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
a god way to solve this would make it so zombies can break any basic blocks (dirt, planks, cobble,) etc. and then to make it even more difficult when hostile mobs come into contact or go near each other they should group together and form a "mob" of mobs. and then if zombies broke walls, the zombie could potentially lead in other mobs with itself. so then there would actually be a use for watchtowers and defenses! there is a actual reason to build traps and moats and tall towers! to spot and dispose of large army's of mobs that can break into your house! think of the possibilities!
If you think this is in any way related to spiders climbing walls, you obviously don't quite understand the topic.
Ya, it's nothing like climbing spiders.
For me, it's simply about mobs being able to effect change to the terrain of my world. Something I've never wanted. I've already had to deal with Enderman coming along and ripping up terrain.. and hey, great.. now I gotta keep replacing doors.
These changes are bad. I hate the people who think this makes interesting challenge.
In case you people have forgotten. NPC villages are all wooden doors. Zombies loves brains, even small ones like NPCs. So the reason behind it is that in the future, Jeb will be making zombies killing NPCs which will be part of a quest! "Protect us from the beasts and you shall be rewarded" NPC. I'm surprise you guys didn't see this coming :mellow.gif:

This is EXACTLY what I've been saying since the beginning. It doesn't make the game harder. It makes the wooden doors completely useless.
If you ask me, this is the first questionable game design change that Jeb has been doing since he's in charge. I hope he keeps those to a minimum.
Man, the drones on this forum are hilarious.
This argument is invalid because it's simply untrue. Additionally, it's pretty silly (and quite telling) that you resort to calling others drones.

That is a bit harsh.
I read it in more of a... "I don't like change." kind of way.
