Minecraft is awesome. It is one of the most fun, long-lasting, awesome games you can play. But ever since the 1.8 updates, the features aren't really like they should be. The new generator is good in that biomes can have unique geography, but the underwater geology is ridiculous - random irregular circles of clay, sand, and dirt. Also, some of the new features have been added in a very, VERY unfinished state, and they've basically been abandoned and left as they are while more features are made.
I don't know what's going on, but this isn't really the way Minecraft is supposed to be. A lot of the new features had great potential, but were never made the way they should be or worked on enough to live up to our expectations. I'm a great idea guy, and some of these ideas sounded great to me, but the versions that formulated in my head were more...pleasing to play than what they actually became in-game.
This inspired me to start a mod project that basically transformed the entire game into what it should be. Although I know no Java, if I can learn Java and assemble a team of people to work on this, here's how it would work: First, we remove or change some of the new features to make it more like 1.7.3, and make some of the new features more complete or sensible. We would add things like "World generation toggles" if possible, where you can (individually) toggle certain biomes and world aspects, like ravines, strongholds, and etc. - not just a "generate structures" toggle. Once this is done, work would be done to transform the game into something much scarier. Mods would be incorporated like the Aether, and the Nether would become much more dynamic and interesting (Notch tried to do this, but didn't do it all that well). The game would be made much harder, and the higher-end items would become more rewarding. Night-time would be much more threatening, and there would be creepy music to go along with it. Maybe Metallurgy could be incorporated, and there are a lot of changes that could be made.
Anyway, Minecraft is still probably my favorite game ever, but some of the new features just aren't really all that good. A lot of them you're not even obligated to use, but things like the new generator, strongholds, and various other features that are part of the world you are. Mojang just doesn't seem to have it in them anymore, the game was going really great and awesome until 1.8, when it took a turn and started becoming less of the true Minecraft.
I really like where it's going, but they need to add red dragons, finish villages, and add the new boat they promised.
Interesting, I've never read back that far. Although most of that he either did accomplish, or it just didn't really fit well, I see his views of the game's future have certainly changed. It's just not like it used to be anymore.

So then, where the **** are my goblins and trolls. Anyways he mentioned steel, iron, and stuff, I should work on a mod with an advanced furnace for making steel. I would like to see the goblins and trolls. The thing he talked about in that post seemed to be where we're at now, I liked it.

Oh, I didn't know there was anything more then those first couple sentences. I feel like an idiot. lol
Oh, and just another thing to make me **** my pants:
Endgame:
While it could be fun to just see how long you can survive in survival mode, I believe there might be a need for some kind of goal. Make the most money in a month? Kill a big evil mob in the shortest time? I don’t know yet.

I don't think that they should add the Aether mod. A generic skylands type dimension would be nice, but not the Aether as it is in the mod. I haven't played it, but from what I've heard it has more features than the overworld AND it's most basic ores outclass overworld diamonds. The overworld should never be made obsolete by any new dimension. And diamonds are supposed to be the iconic "God tier" of tools and armor.

the incomplete stuff i have a feeling Jeb will finish.
better villager AI is on the way, possible additons to strongholds and the end could be made.
but the way i see it the game feels differnt because it has gotten more complex and the look of it has changed drastically as well. compare radioactive green grass in alpha to the normal llooking grass we have now.
what i'm trying to say is minecraft is a game the works if it's simple or complex and Notch and Mojang decided to take it down the more complex route. while i'm sorry you might not be
enjoying all of the new features some of them long term will change the game for the better and hopefully unfinished things will become finished.
some people like the game simple and some like it complex
Yeah, I guess you're right, but this is where notch and jeb want to take the game. All we can do is trust them in fixing this game and listening to the community.
The thing that bothers me the most is how easy you can find valuables since 1.8 I have no trouble finding ridiculous amounts of coal, iron, gold, redstone... Diamond isn't too rare anymore. I dunno
You're experiencing what everyone else is experiencing: called over-hyped.
The game has been downhill since everyone learned how to build a house. There's not much content so you're going to have to install a bazillion mods to get something out of it.
Eh, I happen to like all the new updates~ It seems fitting, At least, For me anyways. Still hasn't lost that old MC Touch i felt from the first time i played it, I think one part of that, IS The fact that you are not Obligated to do most of the new things, And as such, Still got all of its freedom.
Although i admit, Somethings could be better. Such as: The End, The Nether, And some other things i have been ticked with but can't remember quite at the moment.
Ultimately i think Minecraft is doing just fine, And most of the issues will probably be solved in due time.

At first, when they add more things, I have to try them out, or start a new world and 'do everything'. Then I try to find what to do besides building something large and redundant(castles, pyramids, machines) and I usually end up doing things I haven't done before and have fun doing it. At first it's very easy to stay on the beaten path but eventually I find something random that is very enjoyable.
