With jungles now up in the Snapshot 12w03a, I was simply amazed by the new features and Biodome. However the first and formost thing I noticed... Was the lack of new saplings...
Clearly we now have a new wood type however with no saplings to match.... I'v noticed in a nutshell there is actually 3 new trees in the biodome, The ground brush, the smaller trees that sport the new leafs, and of coarse the massive new awesome trees....
Hope I am not the only one hoping we will get a new sapling/plantable tree type out of this.
I don't know, but in a recent video I saw, a normal sapling that came from a jungle tree appeared in a different slot than the regular one when picked up. Can this be confirmed? I can't seem to find the new sapling in creative either.

I encountered the same thing. Spent a couple of nights looking for bonemeal and concluded they both turned into the same tree despite taking different slots. Must be unfinished work.

Maybe the code for picking up jungle saplings is in, and the actual sprites and trees of normal trees is being used as a placeholder. I think that when jungle saplings are added, they won't turn out to be the thick trees, but the small trees and underbrush. The big trees would be a bit much.
I just tested this.
Although saplings from Oak trees and Jungle trees cannot be stacked together (But do look the same) - They both grow Oak trees when I put bonemeal on them.
But idk, maybe the sapling from the Jungle tree will be able to grow Jungle trees in the next snapshot, I do hope so :smile.gif:
Did you test in in the right biomes? Test both in grasslands, test both in jungle.
I seem to remember this sort of thing happening right before the other two sapling types were added. It's very likely they will add a new type for these trees.

That right there tells you that the larger trees, which appear to be like baobab trees, will have there own seeds and saplings... Jeb and Mojang are just using oak seeds code and graphics as a place holder.
I agree, but we're wondering and speculating, not complaining that there are no saplings. Not every thread is a complaint, and therefore there is no need to post reasons not to complain.
I think that the 'new' sapling will have a different texture and grow jungle trees in the next snapshot. I wonder if it will have a chance of growing into one of those tall trees.

Probably have the same probability as making taller oak and pine trees. Give the tree plenty of room to grow tall and you will be bound to get a few big ones.
Mojang takes a long time and finish a feature? You complain.
Mojang rushes a feature, therefore releasing it unfinished? You complain.
**** like this is what makes me mad.
Posts like this make me mad.
Nobody is complaining. Why is it that whenever a thread is made in this section people spam the thread with anti-complaint posts? Even when there is no complaining. Everybody who hasn't been posting that saplings are unfinished have been speculating and posting hopes for new saplings. Complaining about complaining is as bad as complaining about features, which is what you're complaining about.

You never know. Those tall trees could be the modern branched oak trees. In other words, there could be a very slim chance that one of those tall trees grow instead of the normal sized ones.

Just think about what would happen if you tried to grow one of the big jungle trees underground :blink.gif:
I'd rather not have jungle saplings, at least for the big-ass trees. It keeps the mistery alive you know, like those huge invincible trees from the dawn of time... Kind of a Caras Galadhon kind of deal, if you know what I mean.
Yeah, if anything, they need to grow on their own, but EXTREMELY slowly. And only in the jungle.

I think if they do make the jungle trees they'll be the smaller ones with the new leaves, The huge ones probably wont grow, much like some of the custom pine trees.

Ditto. Unfinished feature is unfinished . . .
So lets let the man finish it...
Hold your horses guys...

In the next snapshot expect to see it working.
