OP, your son probably accidentally deleted them. Save files aren't known to spontaneously disappear. Maybe someone cleaned out the appdata folder without knowing what the minecraft folder was?
Blame Notch for the disappearing worlds. Worlds have been doing that for as long as I've been playing since September 8, 2010 during Alpha 1.0.17_04, and I had the best world ever disappear a couple of days or so before the 2010 Halloween Update. :sad.gif:
Your son, or someone else who plays Minecraft on that computer, probably accidentally pressed the Delete button on the world select menu. Worlds don't just disappear, as other people noted. Even though Minecraft asks you before you delete a world, it's not hard to imagine someone accidentally deleting them.

I've never had a world disappear and considering all of them were deleted at once, I don't think a glitch is to blame.
Thanks all -- we did a recover of the computer & were able to get back to two weeks ago. I was desperate, so that's why I posted here. Not a minecraft player -- sorry. But, I thought my son (age 9) was going to have a coronary last night. He even convinced me to tweet Notch. Can't believe I actually did that. Funny thing was, after I tweeted him, the phone rang. I couldn't resist & told my son it was probably Notch. Yeah -- he didn't appreciate that too much. Sounds like I should jump into this Minecraft thing . . . in all my free time :wink.gif: It actually IS a pretty cool game, I have to admit.
execpt the first post
Check The Rycycling bin for it.

The sister thing isn't a bad call either.
