just an example to prove this:
I started in 1.7
I would barely survive easy.
1.8
I would live through easy quite well.
(skipped 1.9 cause of the mods I use)
1.00
playing on hard, (since 1.0 came out...) haven't died 1ce. I estimate I discovered about 5-10 big caves(not counting ravines), ~5-10 dungeons.
might be cause of TNT :biggrin.gif: but I kind-of stopped playing. I WANT MC SO HARD THAT I **** MY PANTS ON EASY! AND VOMIT ON HARD! NOT PLAY HARD MY EYES CLOSED!

It is called getting used and becoming better in the game.
You say you started in 1.7 and you barely survived, that makes sense because you were new in the game, most stuff there was new to you.
In 1.8 you become a good player that could survive easily, makes sense because between 1.7 and 1.8 there were like 3 months, more than enough to get used to all the features of the game.
1.0.0, you have already discovered and got used to literally everything in the game, you know how to deal with monsters now, you can easily play hard because of your knowledge.
I'm not really into downgrading the game either : Minecraft was as easy as it is now back then, the only difference was the number of hits needed to kill stuff. I recognize the game has been improved with 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 and I'm not willing to lose all the new features for something as trivial as the damage/armor balance. That's not the problem in the first place, at least for me.
Why are you forcing us not to use armor at all if we just want SOME challenge? We were wearing armor before and the game could still prove to be a little tricky at times. Now it's impossible to get yourself in dangerous situation if you have food and leather armor.
Some of us complain, in this case, because we see what we consider a significant problem in the state of the CURRENT, UNMODDED game, being played as it was meant to be played; ie, using every tool, armor, enchant, potion, and block available to us.
The problem is that neither analogy is really accurate. You aren't simply playing without pieces in Minecraft, you're avoiding whole gameplay mechanics because the game isn't properly balanced to support them. You have to force yourself to play with different rules altogether. It's not really good game design to force players to avoid game mechanics they might enjoy if the game offered enough challenge to justify using them.
That's why we have always had peaceful mode and why they made a separate creative mode. Survival has always distinguished itself from classic with the combat system (mobs, armor, weapons, health, food, etc). It's always been a major component of the survival game, it wouldn't be "survival" without it.
And I think it isn't acceptable, it's the fault of game developers that they can't adjust difficulty properly, not mine, why should I be the one restricting myself = not enjoying the game to its fullest?
This is like trying to explain calculus to the group of kids at the Special Olympics, impossible.
If you want to accomplish anything, get a petition together and bring it directly to Jens or Notch via Twitter.
I'm afraid you're right. I don't tweet, so I don't have that option. I think they just need to read this thread. I feel that most of the people supporting the idea are being entirely reasonable and minecrafts staff should consider our position. Adding another difficulty has no downside, though I would simply prefer a rebalance to the current hard mode.
I'll say it again; people who like it easy have 3 modes of it. We who like the challenge have none.
Get. A. Mod. If they don't exist, petition for one.
The game is not ruined, FFS.
Good sir, I bid you the reason to understand that many a player prefers Survival Multiplayer. The last time I checked, (although these servers are complete and utter hypocrisy, for over half of them use Bukkit, however that is another problem), most servers ban the client if it is not vanilla in aspects such as these.
The game is called Survival. Survival means survival. Survival does NOT mean mod the game and then get survival. In any case, the mods should be to make things less difficult. (And those who want it less difficult should make their own mods) Why do you think Zombe's is rarely allowed? It may give an unfair advantage, but the true underlying reason is that it makes the game more boring than watching baseball when not a single batter can hit the ball, unless you like watching four men take turns in pairs playing catch, for some unforeseen reason.
And you did NOT just tell me to petition for a mod. I make my own mods, thank you very much. I will never release them to the ingrates here.
I think an OBVIOUS solution is that you could just not wear armor? I don't (mainly cause I think it's a waste of resources) but it adds a little bit of challenge cause the mobs can actually damage you.
So basically it's your own fault....just stop using armor. Plain and simple.
Unarmored you could survive 1 creeper blast if you had full health.
Armored, you were only strong as long as your armor was in good shape.
Each time your armor was damaged, your armor protected less and less until it was gone, reflecting the state of its durability right there in the main HUD.
Balance between armors was kept by durability per each material used to craft it.
Leather,Gold, Iron, Diamond gave 100% armor until damaged 1 time, then durability kicked in.
With 1.0 stats, even armor that is swiss cheese (1-5%) still gives 100% armor bonus.
Sorry, but that's just dumb.
When I can walk right up to creepers and other mobs and laugh in their faces as they tickle 1/2 heart at a time off me even with iron armor, I think something is wrong.
There is no longer any fear factor when exploring with armor stats the way they are now.
Of course the game's going to get boring if all you do is walk through tunnels and get shot. And for the record this thread looks exactly like a "TEH GAME R RUIN3D" thread.
The game being so easy at Hard difficulty, + Enchanted weapons, + Incredibly strong armor, + Skeletons that fight more between themselves than with you because their aim sucks that bad now that instead of hitting you hits another skeleton. or anything else = boring. bg.
Man, the skeletons... used to be... SKELETONS, not just skellys like they are now.
Not even in the End fighting lots of Endermen and a ****ing dragon i could get killed.
And i was wearing a Iron armor. that damn armor it's almost strong as the diamond armor!
The only difference is that the diamond one... well... shines more. And with enchanting it can be stronger than diamond!!
"Overpowered" players and "underleveled" enemys.
And don't forget wolves, if you are already god-like by yourself, think about how it is when a goddamn wolf attacks everything you attack / attacks you.
Too damn easy.
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE CREEPERS OR THE LACK OF GHASTS ON THE NETHER
Entering the nether was creepy, flying jellyfish that yelled at you like cats being raped, EVERYWHERE, and their goddamn noises... it was so damn scary, now it's covered dumb pigmen that will get slayed because your sword it's powerful as ****. and if you get surrounded by them, the worse thing that could happen it's getting pushed around. and some camera shaking. and one or two ghasts wandering around... one or two ghasts that will most likely... dissapear when you're not looking.
I will say that the game definitely feels a bit easier. I rarely die by nearby creeper explosions. And I'm fine with that. The game hasn't lost anything for me. I'm guessing they toned it down for the kiddos. But the important thing for them is to complete their mod api then you can customize the game how you want to play.
And honestly, it really bothers you so much, downgrade your version, pick up a book on Java, or hell, play on a super hostile map. I don't know.
Having worked on games with huge audiences (1 million+), I can tell you that unless the fanbase is chomping at the bit for this change, nothing's going to happen. The game is still a trainwreck of bugs and this request simply does not merit inclusion on any sane priority list.
If you submitted a ticket, I'm sure it'd be tagged with a "WONTFIX" so fix it yourself, and share your changes with the community because I'm sure some people will be very grateful for it.
I'll say it again; people who like it easy have 3 modes of it. We who like the challenge have none.
You do. It's called restricting yourself.
Don't give me the "we want to use everything available in the game" argument. If that were true, you'd exploit bugs and leave the game on Peaceful at all times. If Hard were changed, what happens to people like me that enjoy the game on Hard? Would we have to step down to Normal or Easy to get the same game experience? That sounds like something worth complaining about, doesn't it?
People saying that it was "harder in Alpha" are forgetting that, as explained above, they get better over time. Minecraft has a steep learning curve, but once you get over it, the game becomes much easier. And in a game where you can make yourself invincible by staying indoors, difficulty is not an easy thing to tweak.

Maybe we got better, but since enchanting, it became even more easy.
I have nothing against it. but i would love a Nightmare difficulty, or something. but a DOOM 95ish Nightmare mode.
It is called getting used and becoming better in the game.

Common sense, some people need it.
not when you go from easy to hard in 4 days.
Day 1 of 1.00
I was doing creative, for 1 month. so I went to normal.
Day 2 Of 1.00
beating all the monsters so moving up to hard
Day 3 of 1.00
still didn't die.
Day 4 of 1.00
getting used to hard powned 3 zombies, 1 spider and 2 creepers loosing less then 3 full hearts (iron sword, iron armour) I was not used to survival, didn't die once (once when I was riding a lava pig :biggrin.gif:) and on the 3rd day on hard, owning a ton of creatures? did I mention that I beat 2 endermen simultaneously without reciving a single hit (half a heart from fall damage)?
beating? fine... I could do that all day in 1.8. but its the "not receiving a single hit" part of he deal that annoys me.
I would like an Enderman that I can't touch, that would come behind me and when I turn, he's 1 meter besides me, not 5 miles away. I would like creepers to explode more quickly. I would like skelions to aim. I would like zombies to live longer. and spiders to be faster, stronger and live longer then me without armour.

Don't tell me not to use an argument if you can't give me a good reason not to. We're talking hard mode here. Don't even try to bring up peaceful. And whether or not I choose to exploit a bug has nothing to do with base game mechanics and features.
Sure, I've gotten better at Minecraft since my first days punching trees. However, that has no bearing on the fact that armor is still absurdly overpowered now. I shouldn't be able to hug 5 creepers consectutively just because I'm wearing iron armor.
You like hard mode? Fine. I still don't see any good reason not to give us an ACTUAL hard mode, a step above level 3 easy.
I agree. I'm not one to complain about change but this is one of the 2 things I hate about 1.0. I don't mind the end or the potions, I didn't care when the food bar came out either but minecraft is in trouble when creepers are no longer scary. Remember when being beside a creeper explotion would kill you instead or just taking off a heart or 2? That was actually the FIRST thing I noticed after updating. I went on a creeper hunt and didn't die :tongue.gif:
There is a reason hard should be more then less trees :/ Easy use to be fewer mobs, I played on hard wishing there was an extreem mode. I would play on hardcore but I have a REALLY bad habbit of falling off cliffs :tongue.gif:
So ya I completely agree and I don't really believe in mods :tongue.gif:
Oh, I was but 9 minutes late! Woe, woe is me!
WAHAwhaBRarGARBRGL it never ends! Is this some sort of widespread trolling scheme?!? Or do the most of you just not read?
As far as difficulty is concerned, Hard=Hardcore. If I never die on hard (which, sadly, I don't) then hardcore is meaningless.
just an example to prove this:
