Like many people, I have an older map with a home that was surrounded by waterways which, with the new biomes, are now frozen over and the landscape covered with snow.
Are there any mods or ways to edit the level.dat to reverse this sudden ice age?

A quick look on Google gave me something that might help.
So...what...just randomly change the seed until the ice starts melting in the areas where I don't want it? Sounds dangerous. Is the seed used for anything else in existing terrain besides determining which areas are snowy (or ugly swampy)?

The only thing the seed is used for in existing terrain is the biomes, so pick one at random and test it out. It's the only way to change biomes. You can always make a copy of the map before you mess around with it, since having a backup never hurts.

It seems to be a file editor and it might do the trick.
Good luck.
