Now as You should know there is a new hardcore mode, but for those of you who don't know it's basically survival mode except you cannot change the difficulty (always hard) and if you die your map just goes to heaven and you never see it again.
I've played it once and here are my thoughts...
It's good because I quite often get into the habit of switching to peaceful when it gets dangerous...
...but you can die and lose your map for stupid reasons like accidentally letting go of shift while peering over a ravine...
...yet it makes you aloft more safety conscious and you never go exploring as much
Changes...
The only changes I see is the options have under difficulty the word Hardcore and the health hearts have sort of frowny faces, the world selection also say Hardcore Mode! in red underneath it plus when you die it says; you cannot respawn in hardcore mode
Delete world
and that's about it.
I guess I have to sit on the fence with this one it has it's pros and cons but I guess I like it.
I backup my hardcore world saves anyway. But the time between backups is long enough to still make me ultra cautious while not punishing me too much for stupid deaths. I haven't died on a HC world yet though.
Actually only just started my first ever Hardcore map. I normally hate single player but since Pinkemmas Tomes Mod plus hardcore I am actually enjoying it.
I just gave myself two goals, firstly write a in-game diary using Tomes (took 4 days to find a chicken feather!) and build a Hot Air Balloon (using the mod) to get away from wherever I was.
So far so good, except for the fact that after 5 days I have yet to find more than four cows! I need 20 leather... (I was stupid and killed the cows thinking I would find more to breed)
So anyway, yes. With the help of a couple of mods to give me a goal I enjoy, I am loving Hardcore.
I won't play single-player anymore without playing Hardcore.
I admit to backing up my saves, but it's just so that I can go back and take screenshots of my world in its final state after I die. On a related note, I have not yet ever died in Hardcore mode. I'm thinking of starting a new world just for fun; I'm too powerful in my old one.
I feel the world deleting should be different. I feel when you die the world should either be "locked" or turned into Creative Mode, to show you died. No one wants to loose something they spent time on.
Right now I'm playing hardcore only using stone tools and leather armor(bucket is only exception). So far I've gotten 2 enderpearls and I'm almost done with my nether portal.

I like the hardcore mode, it's like real life, you don't get a second chance.
