Did you notice that the armor brearly took damage it's self?
Ya know this would be totally acceptable if it were like a fully enchanted level 50 set of armor in say WoW. But this is something that I can pretty much find and make in under 1 day.
At least with iron you have smelt it, requiring you to mine for coal or make charcoal, find the iron and stuff.
Diamonds just show up in a cave. Find a few veins and your set.
Common if your going to implement something. Make it worth doing.
There's a flaw in that video. Some of the TNT there is sent outwards, inflicting less damage. Basic TNT cannon logics.
Make a box of obsidian with a 4x4x4 space inside, surround yourself with TNT in there (62 blocks of it), and then blow it up. That way you'll get damage from all the TNT.
As of my tests in those conditions, with iron armor I died, with diamond armor I lost 2.5 to 3 hearts.
Regardless of what armor you're wearing, you should die from atleast 2 tnt next to you.
I find it comical that you can run around without a weapon killing mobs.
heh.. heheee CREEPER PULL MY FINGER ***BLAAAAMMM*** heh.. heh.
Notch makes armor useful and actually last long then 10 minutes, people complain about it being too strong, if notch makes mobs deal more damage, then people will complain more.
Tbh, if notch reduced armor durability a bit it would be just fine. If the iron armor ran out faster, then it would cost more iron to always have armor on, therefore make it more balanced.
You're right, the durability was increased since it doesn't take fall damage. When it comes to defense however, we mine as well play creative mode, enough said.
Let me see, if I remember correctly, mobs got harder to kill which probably meant that since mobs can live longer, the concept was to make the armor stronger.
Hmm the old way may have made the game more challenging( which is welcomed by some people) but from what others said, armor was really a huge waste of materials and especially for diamond armor, who would want to see the armor be broken so fast after mining so hard for diamonds? Prolly it is to reward players for finding something so rare?
Since you guys mentioned iron can easily be found, it should be modified but I feel that diamond armor should stay the was it is.
Playing hardmode and honestly haven't gotten close to death with a full suit of iron armor (dropped 3 hearts at most). A minor change in the damage reduction wouldn't hurt. I like this new system on how the armor stays the same regardless of durability, just needs to block less damage is all.
I need to point something out which those of you who skipped the 1.9 series might not realize:
The armor did not become OP when they changed it to stay at 100% protection as durability dropped. In fact, when they made that change they made the armor lose durability much too fast and we all started burning through full suits of iron armor like crazy. I was carrying two or three full sets of iron just to go caving for a night or two. But then they adjusted how fast the armor loses durability, and went a little bit too far the other direction.
I think the best solution would be to make the armor durability decrease faster as you turn up the difficulty level, and leave the rest alone. So for example it would work about like it does now on easy, reduce slightly quicker on normal, and reduce maybe twice as fast on hard. As for hardcore... if you're really Hard Core you fight with bare fists and don't wear any armor. :biggrin.gif:

But I also made a better test that was to blow 1 TNT at a time to get full damage from each.
- With iron armor TNT takes 4 hearts.
- With diamond armor TNT takes 1 heart.
This means that with iron armor, you die on the 3rd TNT, with diamond you die on the 10th TNT. Also tested with gold armor just for the hell of it and TNT takes 8 hearts, but funny thing is that the armor doesn't take damage. Bug?
I tested and got the same results with iron armor. Diamond armor is what it is-It has been OP since it existed people have complained about it since it had. I knew that video had something up in it with the TnT and I thought correct.
But I stress my point once more-Armor is icing on the cake of the new combat system. Sure it's nice to have, but a stone sword, criticals, and charging can make you invulnerable if you know how to use it-Monsters will hardly be able to keep up in combat. You don't need armor to become near-god mode in vanilla minecraft-You just need to know how to fight.

Why are people even testing using TNT? Mobs aren't going to attack you with TNT and it's barely functional as a PVP weapon. If the video is correct in one's ability to run around tagging creepers, while only taking half a heart of damage at point blank range and taking ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from any other enemy type, all while the armor takes no damage, either, then the diamond armor most definitely needs some tweaking.
While the game's main emphasis is not the combat, the whole point of survival mode is to offer some challenge to the player. Mobs should be more deadly and armor should be balanced so it can offer some limited protection, but not give the player full on god mode. I could see diamond armor realistically offering 1/4 of the protection it does in the video or less with durability being severely reduced. Diamond is not an "end game" material, anymore, and it shouldn't be treated as one.
Armor is mostly designed to serve as protection against wandering monsters in the game. If people want to focus on the combat aspects of the game, that's what enchantments and the expanded combat system are for. Otherwise, you don't need full on invincibility with your armor. The perils of exploring underground or at night used to be part of the charm of the game.
Armour doesn't need to be nerfed, weapons need to be de-nerfed. I come from a pvp server, and two people in full diamond with diamond swords can fight for 15 minutes without resolve.

The game isn't designed around PvP, so it makes no sense whatsoever to ruin the rest of the game for the sake of PvP. Nerfing armor does more to balance the game as a whole, rather than just make PvP more enjoyable at the expense of everything else. A game where you can kill everything in one hit and don't take any damage with beginner or middle of the road armor and weapons isn't fun or properly balanced.

Sounds good to me. We are the players, we are the superior beings of this realm, and so our battles should be long and intense. It allows for more creativity in fighting, such as potion use and such.
Isn't having epic armour the reason you head down into your mines at night
No, I actually tend to mine naked and do everything naked up until I fight blazes in the nether. It seems the armor didn't get more defense, it got exponentially more defense. If you haven't realized this yet, then go out and get attacked by stuff.
Diamond armor definitely needs to be nerfed, it's just silly as is. Iron is fine, and as mentioned earlier, will not protect you from much TNT (3 is lethal to be exact).
Iron still protects you tons without being enchanted.
Yeah like I said before, why would you even need diamond armor (I honestly haven't even tested it!) when you cannot be killed with iron armor..
I think a lot of people posting in here don't play survival at all >_< the armor is really bugged, I doubt this is what Notch had in mind, you cannot be killed (even on hard mode) when you have a set of iron armor!
I honestly hope they change this.
Iron Armor should be nerfed a little, but it's supposed to protect you well. Diamond however, is hilarious. You are practically invincible while it lasts. I even took a bath in lava for a good 25 seconds or so before I died with diamond armor on.
Seriously?
2nd blast was Diamond armor, and he took 1 1/2 hearts of damage.. :dry.gif:
And none of the armor was even enchanted for bonus's.. LOL
That is the most ridiculous thing I've seen yet..
If that video doesn't convince you ppl, nothing will.

all this proves is that T.N.T. doesn't do enough damage. it doesn't prove that armour is too weak.
FACT. This is a fact.

I'm all for this idea.
Yet it still eventually breaks, of course.
You can apparently get full diamond and jump in lava and live for 30 seconds, taking little to no damage until your armor breaks.
