The End is the ultimate dimension. Let me rephrase that, the End was supposed to be the ultimate dimension. No wonder the Endermen invaded our world, theres isn't all that great.
For one, its size is tiny. I never played any of the 1.9 pre-releases, so when 1.0.0 came out, I went to the seed section and looked for a ssed where a stronghold was nearby. I got one (172099 if anyone was wondering) and went to the End. I used creative to beat the dragon, but before I left, I went to explore the End some more. I went to one side of it, and said "Huh, thats weird, I spawned, right neard the edge of the End", then I went to another side, and said "Weird, I spawned right next to the corner " then I went to another side of the End, and realised, the End is just a big floating island. At first, I thought it was just the seed, and so I got another one. I deafted the dragon, then looked on each side again. This one was even smaller then the first. I kept going to different seeds, trying to find one that would be normal size, but by the 7th seed, I realized that these were all just small size. Really? This was supposed to be the best dimension, the one were you would fight dragons, explore, and collect, but this time in a strange new land that was inhabited by the very thing that we fear at night in our own dimension. Itstead we just get a island with a dragon, and the Endermen were more annoying then scary.
For two, the battle with the dragon was actually pretty easy. All you need is some iron armour and a sword a diamond sword (which you can get from 30 minutes in a mine) a bow, one and a half stacks of arrows, and some food. Heres the battle plan for killing it.
1. Use the arrows to snipe the tesseract things on the top of the obsidian pillers.
2. Wait until the dragon is flying straight down at you.
3. Right before it is about to hit you, shoot it with a arrow.
4. The dragon will feel pain, and fly about 3 blocks up.
5. Hit it with the sword as much as you can.
6. Rinse and repeat.
It's really easy. Diamonds can't damage it, that means if you hit it with a diamond sword, it does no damage to it. If you have all diamond armour on, it does no damage to you. I don't know if this a bug, or intended, but since you probably will have a full set of diamond armour before you get to the End, this needs to be changed immediatly. The Endermen are more likely to kill you than the dragon. Just don't look down. Heck, you could kill the dragon with just you hands. It may take a while, but it's very possible. I had to kill twelve Enderman and six blazes to go to the End, and thats not even counting the eyes of ender just to find the stronghold. Killing those were harder to do than killing the dragon, and that's not saying much. This is the last final battle, I should've had to build a house mid fight because I couldn't stand fighting it anymore. At least make it breathe fire or something.
And for three, the absence of non-worthless new blocks. There were only two new block and those were the ender stone, and the ender egg. Both are worthless. The only other block is obsidian, for the obsidian pillars. The end stone is the ground, which again, is worthless. The only purpose it has is to blow up when the enderdragon hits it. It doesn't look all the good, so the isn't any reason to mine it and bring it back to the overworld to build with it. The ender egg is whats sitting on the top of the portal to get back to the overworld. All it does is spas's out when you right click it and teleport. That just shows that there is nothing to do in the End but to kill the dragon, because there is no use in collecting blocks, and theres nothing to build because it looks ugly in the enviroment. In the pre-releases, everyone was complaining that the End had barely anything to explore, and I told them that it was just a pre-release, but now, it's no longer a pre-release, and we still are stuck with it.
It's a good start, but I hope it is improved in future. Seems like a bit of a waste of time currently.
So far I only find it useful for enchantments, since the enderdragon drops so much exp. ^-^
I'm also pretty sure that The End isn't finished, so we'll just have to wait and see how it'll work itself out the more releases we get. :3 I hope for it to be better and more challenging.
Notch said that he wants the dragon to be pretty much impossible to win, and if he can defeat it he'll make it harder. I'm hoping he'll make it breathe fire or something.
I hope so too. Maybe it can be like boss fights in other games where there are different stages in the boss fight.
I'd enjoy seeing music played in the background, new dragon sounds, and maybe if he shot fireballs at you like Ghasts do.
I'm fine with the End as it is, but the atmosphere definitely stops it from being epic.

Yeah, music would make it allot more epic, it's not really a boss fight without it. Just another fight with a mob.
I personally would make it harder to reach the pillars, or even no pillars at all, something you have to adventure/survive in various ways that make the dragon weaker so that you can eventually start damaging it. The more of those healing things you kill, the less defense the dragon gets.
That's just how I'd do it, though. XP
I agree, it is somewhat unfinished. However when the new AI and use for enderdragon eggs comes, it will be way better than what we have currently.
I know it will, i'm pointing out the things that should be changed.
I wonder what the ender egg will do. I hope it won't just spawn another dragon to fight.
Truly, all the the end is, is a boss battle room. It isn't a new dimension, it isn't a new realm, it's just a place to fight the enderdragon.
That being said, I do feel the battle needs some work. It's very repetitive and boring. In my opinion, there needs to be different "stages" to the battle.
the first stage could be how it is now.
After 1/3rd of the dragons health is drained, have it fly up far out of range, and have the enderdragons become hostile to you, forcing you to kill them off before continuing the battle.
the final stage should have the enderdragon essentially shooting ghast fireballs at you from a short distance, as well as charging you.
In all these stages, the enderdragon should be much faster than it is now.

That's what 'm saying, it needs to be way more than just a battle arena, it needs to be what Mojang promised, a actual dimension like the Nether.
I agree. The dragon needs to be smarter, faster, and especially tougher. Maybe have the points spread out (not in a really big area, just bigger than it is) and you have to track them down while fending off the dragon and the Endermen who dwell there.

I'm surprised that we have gotten this far in the thread without someone disagreeing with me entirelly and flaming. I agree with you entirely, the dragon is super easy.
I think the crystals should come back after a couple of minutes, and like you guys said: dragon spit fire and epic music.
On top of that, it should fly faster and not dwaddle around in the air and attack you every chance it gets. It should damage diamond armor, not just a naked character.

This is what I think the end should be like:
To enter: Entrance is good, but I think you should spawn in mid air above it and have some sort of small video clip showing the dragon in all of its glory breathing fire and roaring at the camera, clip ends with the dragon flying past the camera and destroying it with its tail (which should be a weapon, kinda like a mace) on the way, seemingly on accident. Your character than falls slowly to the ground and now you have control again.
The World: The ground does look cool, but I think the place shouldn't just be some floating island. It should be like a strange biome with its own ores, including some sort of thing that can only be mined by diamond picks and is some radiant green lime color. It should be about as powerful as iron in terms of armour strength and weapon mining/cutting/digging quality but should last for an exceptionally long time, if not forever. Also, random effects should happen near you when using a full armour set of it. Something like lightning striking randomly, friendly endermen coming out of nowhere for a few seconds to harm your enemies when in peril, stuff like that. The world should have an elaborate castle with many traps that you have to maneuver through to find the enderdragon at the top, which would then burst through a large glass window before you can fight it. The castle would have many amazing redstone circuts, and possibly a few elevators to try to go through to get through the maze/traps. The world should have a bottom of a new substance that is un mineable, like bedrock. The world is infinate, like the overworld and nether, but the castle is automaticly put within your sight when you spawn.
The Dragon: Breaths fire that can harm the endermen and possibly kill them, showing its ferocity and lack of compassion for its own kind. Its tail should be a weapon it uses when on the ground, as well as in the air, and it should have armour you have to break before being able to harm it. It will land on the ground when it would be a good strategy (you are using bow, less powerful then diamond sword and the like) and take to the air when it is in danger. I don't like the random obsidian pillars with the healer things on top, and thing that there should be only one that regenerates every minute or so on top of the castle. the enderdragon will have its own music (scary and intimidating) which is louder the closer you are to it.
When Beaten: The dragons death is great, I love it. However, the egg that it drops should move around very slowly and crack to reveal a new and more powerful dragon when exposed to lava or hit with a tool or just simply left alone for a day. Speaking of days, the world should have 2 suns, one green and one purple. Each time the dragon is "reborn" it should have more health, be more aggressive, and have harder armour and maybe special powers depending on how many times you have fought it. example: 0 times fought: Normal dragon. 1 time fought: Lightning can fly from its wings when they are raised upwards, doing less damage then overworld lightning but still quite a bit. lightning should be pretty inaccurate for now. 2 times fought: Still has lightning, but it is more likely to happen when flying. 3 times fought: Very accurate lightning, striking about 90% of the time. 4 times fought: Dragon flys twice as fast and breaths fire more and shoots more lightning. Nearly impossible to defeat without mods/many potions. 5 times fought: You figure it out, pretty crazy.
That is what I think the end should be like, what about you? Also, kudos to those who accually read that enormous block of text XD Got kinda carried away. Pretty good for my first post, eh?

Oh yeah, I forgot, I remembered that dragons can't damage anything diamond. If you hit it with a diamond sword, it does no damage to the sword, if it hits you when you have full diamond armour on, you take no damage. I have no idea if this is a bug or it is intended, however, by the time you get to the End, you probably have enough dimonds for diamond armour and a sword, so this needs to be changed immediatly.

One idea I had was that, rathering than spawning a bunch of endermen all over the end, there could be a limited amount of Endermen and each one would be a "mini-boss" protecting the Enderdragon. To kill the Enderdragon you would have to kill all of the Endermen
Each Enderman would have his own quirk to fighting:
-An Endermen with Red eyes. When he is attacked, a single player is teleported to a room surrounded with flames - now he must fight the red enderman in mortal combat!
-An Enderman with blue eyes. When he is attacked, all players in the End start drowning - better kill the blue Enderman before you meet your untimely end. In addition, a player that is hit is temporarily frozen for a few seconds, so be sure to keep your distance!
-An Enderman with green eyes. When he is attacked, the enderman randomly possesses a player. The player who is possessed is not revealed save through his own actions, but if he manages to kill his former "friends" there is special loot in store for him...
-Finally, an Enderman with yellow eyes. When he is attacked, the enderman teleports - from now on he will throw ranged attacks and players and try to keep his distance as much as possible.
Just a thought I had that wouldn't involve making a new mob and make endermen a little more interesting. :wink.gif:

The place where its just, you, some pillars, and endermen, or a hellish world where it's never safe, and mobs are everywhere. There was talk about a red dragon, make him the final boss, make him harder than the enderdragon, and stick him in the Nether.
Pretty much, yeah.
