I wish minecraft remained like 1.7.3 and only added more ores and an aether-like sky dimension to 1.8.1. :sad.gif:
I love the new shift clicking and that zombies don't drop feathers, but everything else makes minecraft feel like Notch just implemented mods into the game, mods that you would screw around with for awhile and then uninstall them because they ruin the feeling of minecraft.
Also, the hunger system is ASSSSSSSSS. He should of made it possible to stack food, but make raw meat and fish not edible + food would only give back 1 heart to make it fair, rather than adding this silly hunger system.
Food stacking is a terrible idea. It always was a terrible idea as it made the game too easy.
Notch is Notch, and we can sit here and whine all we want, but that doesn't change the fact that Notch is a lazy ass and can't remove a small bit of coding and make the game right again.
Lesson: Notch is Notch, not someone who listens to the larger populace.
e; @BIGAL2K643: Just because someone voiced a decent opinion means that this is an auto-bad forum? If you hate it, go play with your toy trucks.
its one of these threads minecraft comunity as bad as the sonic fanbase
It seems as though you were trying to make a statement then moved on to saying something else. So could you please repeat yourself and finish what you were going to say?

Lazy ass?
It isn't YOUR game, fool. They clearly liked the idea.
And your opinion is worth literally nothing when you've got such a **** attitude.
When you get damaged, your hunger meter does go down from it. Why not keep farming in the game? It's an aspect that almost everyone has wanted and it's very nifty. How about instead of mining we just keep wooden swords? That would be your idea of changing the game also right?
Look, there are a large number of people who love hunger, and a large number who hate it.
Notch made the game, liked the idea, added it. Notch gets to make whatever game he wants, that is his choice as the owner of an indy game company. Notch doesn't NEED to care if you like food or not. HE likes it, and guess what! It says right on the minecraft website (and it has said this for a long time) that Notch is making a game HE WANTS, the fact that you are permitted to purchase it from him just serves to fund the continued creation of Notch's game.
At first this seems selfish, but on closer inspection you will see that Notch's system is brilliant. If he attempted to accommodate every persons opinions about how this game should go, he would have to make 20 different games! Or one big mess of a game that nobody will like. Instead he will base the game off of his own standard of fun, he might take inspiration from us (and our mods) but its still all what HE wants. Will some people hate it? Yep. But others will love it. In the end it will be a good solid game, not some crazy **** monster.
The answer to your problem then? A mod! yep, it is a valid answer. Here's why:
The MC website ALSO says that we are free to modify the game all we want, so if we don't find what notch made to be fun, we can go ahead and change it. Or even go play an entirely different game. Or turn MC into an entirely different game. This is a game, you are supposed to have fun. Notch had the programming skills to create something that was fun for him. If you don't find it fun, use your own skills (or the skills of someone else who is willing to help) and make the game fun. Or design your own game that is perfect for you.
In the end Notch will make HIS game, people will play it, they will pay him, he will get rich. , and you will do one of three things: Just play it, Mod it, or leave it.
Or go complain on the internet about it, to each his own I guess. . .

In real life food doesn't heal you instantly! WTF?
But in all seriousness, its okay. It just means you need to be more careful in the game. You no longer can Rambo it out in the first few days of minecraft by launching yourself into a group of zombies and punch your way out and devouring porkchops. It puts more emphasis on avoiding damage. You still heal, just very slowly. Until you get iron/diamond armor, then your invincible.
I know I'm a couple updates late on this, but really hunger? I liked the regular eat food and restore heath. I hope Notch removes this and puts it back to before. Just don't flame me because I brought it back up now. :dry.gif:
Nope not going to change, so no point in hoping at this point since there more people that support hunger
i was skeptical about the hunger thing too when i first heard of it, i didn't want it to happen. Though once it saw how it worked, it actually was a good thing overall to Minecraft since it gave purpose to farming and the aforementioned "balence" issues regarding insta-healing in combat/danger situations.
Upon reading your response post , i have but two questions.
Why is the "there is a mod for that" argument invalid ?
Because this is a discussion about whether hunger should be in Minecraft. If, to use an extreme example, Notch made it so you have a 10% chance of exploding every second, then saying "You can get a mod to stop you exploding" does not contribute anything to whether it should be in the game.
And Why should food heal instantly and potions heal gradually?
Because it wouldn't change the existing mechanics of food. Potions would still be more useful than food if food was unstackable - if you're going exploring or something, you can either waste several slots carrying food, or drink a slow-healing potion before you leave.
You sir do not make much sense .
And I thank my lucky stars you had no hand in developing Minecraft/
Edit: Forgot to reply to this part. Do you currently think hunger is a good idea, overall, to be forced upon every single Minecraft player? (except creative and peaceful players).
Now, if Notch had never brought up the idea of hunger, and it wasn't currently in the game, and someone suggested the idea to you, would you still want to force it upon every single Minecraft player?
At first I didn't like hunger but I've grown used to it now.
My problem with hunger however, is that you only heal while at 8 or higher on the food bar. This makes it rather annoying because if you're in a dangerous area or spelunking you want to heal any damage you take, which means having to constantly eat to regain the lost 2 food, which is not only annoying but also makes high-healing foods like cooked pork rather wasteful unless you're sprint exploring during daytime.
I don't mind the whole food system that much, but it would be handy if the thresh hold for healing was a bit lower, so I wouldn't feel like I have to constantly eat to restore my HP. Perhaps if the regeneration increased at higher food levels, then it would make eating constantly good while in combat and eating every now and then good enough for small amounts of damage while exploring.
since you were "a couple" of updates late, you should've just read the threads a few pages back instead of starting a new one. there is one thread bound to be discussing this same complaint isn't there?
A STACK of bread? Three or four breads should be more than enough. Six, if you plan a longer travel. A whole stack would be enough to supply you for a whole RL-week non-stop-playing, I guess (depending on how much you sprint, fight, jump, mine and walk)
After making a fairly large auto-harvesting farm, the SMP server I play on feeds 4 players a stack of bread about once a day. Yes, thats 256 bread a day, and thats only because we're too lazy to harvest it constantly.
I tend to go on very long trips for various reasons (today I think i'm going to search for an artic biome), so a stack of bread is more of an insurance policy than anything else. Recently me and a friend did about 2k blocks of strip mining, the bread helped alot because we found plenty of mobs to fight as well.
As for the hunger mechanic, I joined right at the release of 1.9 prerelease 6, so I never knew otherwise, it hasn't bothered me even since day 1.

It's actually 9 or higher. It gives good incentive to actually use watermelons, and I love watermelons...
Wow your stupid. Mods are not an intended part of the game and Notch did not intend for it to be. The Food system before was perfectly balanced you unbalanced it by adding in mods on your own accord. Let's think for a second, sure you can have 30 cooked pork in your inventory and survive forever but you wouldn't want 30 pork in your inventory because you wanted other items there. It balanced itself out.
Also for the Record, Regenerating health is not good design. It basically is saying, oh you made a mistake let's just pretend it never happened. Making mistakes should cost you something. Regenerating health no matter how you look at it is bad design. Players should be punished for getting hit not just get a free pass. Besides if he would have made it so you eat food like you do now and have the instant heal you couldn't spam it in your inventory anyway during battle. Regenerating health is bad. However I don't mind there being a hunger bar, just the Health Regen.
You sir have horrible grammar and plus your argument is stupid, let me tell you why.
You say that regenerating heath is not a good design, and that its saying you made a mistake lets pretend it never happened. Well, Isn't insta-healing with food the same thing, oh you made a mistake eat some bread now you're instantly fine? Its not helping your argument.

If food didn't heal such an insane amount of health, it wouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately there is no win on the internet. No matter how many times the opponent loses, you still never win.
