The philosophy exposed is rather deep, is that attention must be placed upon it to be understood. Also people wants every dimension to have a story, etc. But they don´t understand that Notch knows it is a sandbox, adding a story would feel like a path to be followed The End shall stay that way, the fight and the poem, and the desolate dimension. The story is added by you. Notch added the End quest to have a path that would make you explore a lot and make you see everything that was placed in the game. And the End Poem is a way of interpreting things Notch wanted to share, and it is not creepy. Try to understand it, it has its solid bases.
Anyway that´s just my crazy interpretation of the crazy out of nowhere over the top text for the end of minecraft, it may be also that Notch wanted to troll all of us hehe
Minecraft doesn't need an ending, shouldn't have an ending, etc.
This along with potions and enchantments is killing the game for me.
The ending isn't even good, so an even bigger no.
How are potions and enchantments make the game less appealing to you? You aren't forced to make potions, and you aren't forced to use enchantments. And you don't have to go to the end if you don't want to. It's a sandbox game, you still play it the way you want to. Other people, such as myself, may enjoy the stuff that has been added. But no one is forcing us to use the new tools that they give us.
And on topic to the thread. The end really doesn't seem like an end, but more of a beginning. There is so many unanswered questions that was created in the credits. And with most story telling, the more questions there are, the bigger the payoff. Unless if you pull a LOST and it turns out minecraft is just purgatory (Don't get any ideas Notch). But I did notice something at the end of the credits, a quote from Mark Twain, "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." I swear Notch is just trying to tell us to get a life.
awful the "end" is pointless (nothing there) and the dragon is almost impossible to beat with no creative or cheating. The aether would have been a much better thing to add to minecraft. Plus the dragon egg doesn't even do anything.
I have edited the end poem to contain your (Homem Pigman) history of minecraft instead. it is much more interesting and doesn't actually end the game. Thanks alot
I'm fine if there's credits. Mojang deserves credit for this. I'm fine that there's an "ending." Gives me something to work for once my house is epic. But I wish Notch would keep his philosophy out of it. It's not that it bothers me as much as I know it will bother some people. My parents for example. If my dad read the End Poem, he'd "have a talk." Despite the fact that I'm 17. That bothers me. In a game like Minecraft, the only thing I should have to worry about my parents seeing are giant phalluses and the chat window.

Please actually read the OP before posting **** like this, it says the ending text, not the boss.
Rather than just long credits, it would be better to have a long video of your player, which the game has randomly recorded whilst playing.
So that when the credits/random text come up, you will be able to view youself playing. (From a 3rd person view of course)and still see the random text =D. Which is like EPIC.

I totally agree, it's not like you actually worked hard to build up your Minecraft skills, get diamond armor and tools, have a pack full of bricks and porkchops just to fight the final boss of a never ending game.
To all those eggs saying 'It's a sandbox game. No ending is actually required.' or 'It was too long and boring.', you guys are the people that go out and try the ending then decide it's s**t.
And yes it is a sandbox game. And sandbox games give you the choice of what to do. You really don't have to go the End or the Nether. And with that you don't actually need to 'finish' the game.
I however do believe it is fitting, but could be slightly shorter. I love the way it is being discombobulating and all.
For one thing, it isn't really an ending, because you keep playing.
Sandboxes do(can) have endings. What defines it as a sandbox however is that you don't have to go through with it to really play the game. Not if you were to decide on one of the missions on half life that you'd stay on the same level forever, but that you could do whatever you wanted and have things to do, like a game like skyrim or oblivion would be a good example.
This for sure needs some music, and the dialog really... do i even have to say it? it's boring, it needs a little more spice. as for the Enderdragon and such it was great, from level 2 to 115 during the End so yeah it was good.
THE ESCAPE KEY LETS YOU SKIP THE "ENDING"!!! STOP COMPLAINING!
Nobody here is complaining. We're having a perfectly rational discussion about the quality of the ending (not it's existance, as I said many times already) and how it could be improved.
Most people don't like the text. That's a fact, as evidenced by 70% of the poll and most of the posts here.
Everyone, please stop trolling this thread. Say why you like the ending text and why, or why you dislike the ending text and why.
Remember: avoiding something, like this guy suggested, does not make it better.

I would even be okay with the text if we at least fell out of a portal that disappeared a second after, kind of like it's spitting you out. Right now it just feels like, "Oh, you beat the game. Go play in your sandbox again child." It just feels like there's no mystery to it or anything. You just kind of appear back in your world again. Even a little animation to appear in the world again would suffice.
My first impression was the game was trying too hard for camp effect. I really just skipped it all as it wasn't the bit interesting and was obviously some cheap trick to add mystery and stuff which the old mc was known for. The same could be said with The End, it's a mysterious place with endermen but it never really delivers that creepiness, it just tries to portray it but i never felt anything from the noise-filled atmosphered The End. The aim was a good idea but it just doesn't deliver as obviously they don't know how to relay the feeling of mystery and 'creepiness'(so to speak) in a more natural way.
I think it was good, but I'm currently working on a more lighthearted version. I.e.
In the "and the universe said" part, I'm adding in some well known memes from other games (additional pylons).
I'm going away on camp, but if anyone's interested in helping me achieve the credits re-written funnily, PM me

70% want the text changed or removed.
30% like the text.
My opinion: After reading all those pages I still think it could really be improved.

Minecraft has gone so far from a sandbox game to becoming its own genre.
