as many players of the latest pre-release know enderman drop ender pearls needed for the important eyes of ender or just the pearls for teleportation if you wish. but because of their buff in the pre-releases they are now much difficult to fight therefore im making this guide to help people who might be having difficulties fighting these guys.
FINDING ENDERMEN:
enderman because they spawn less than other hostile mobs can be slightly difficult to find so i came up with a tactic so you can find the fiends more easy. keep turning your difficulty to peaceful then back to your original mode till one spawns near your location.
ENGAGING THE ENDERMAN:
the most important thing to do before fighting an enderman is clearing the local hostiles so you can focus on fighting the enderman as creepers can 1 shot you even with full leather armor its best to focus on the enderman. be sure to have a bucket of water with you as it can save your life if the worst happens.
FIGHTING THE ENDERMAN: have a water bucket as stated above in case you get in a tight spot,a diamond sword (or an iron one but diamond is alot better) (enchantments are recommended) a full set of atleast leather armor (iron is good and diamond is fantastic but not necessary) and food to restore your health. there are 2 ways to start up the fight. 1: looking at it from a distance, not recommended as they CAN teleport directly in front of you but good if theres lots of other hostiles in the area around them and can lure them towards you spawn so IF you die you can get your items back. 2: getting close to them them quickly attacking them. this is the best I personally figured out before you can get a hit on the enderman before it starts attacking you back. now the enderman's sneaky teleportation is most likely your downfall but if you can quickly follow its nether portal particle effect you can see where it went so you can resume attacking. it is recommended to only take on one enderman at a time. its suggested you also drink a potion of strength so if you do use the close up first attack you can deal more damage and take it out more easily.
hopefully i helped some of you guys out who are having trouble or help out some people who are slightly new to the buffed up enderman. BYE!!!!!! :happy.gif:
Personally I just get underground right away in a new world and mine down deep like mad till I have loads of iron and hopefully a couple dozen diamonds. I get all armored-up and armed with a diamond sword. Only then do I take on mobs systematically, including Endermen.
Enderman aren't hard to kill just annoying. They shouldn't teleport so much and definitely shouldn't teleport after you've killed them robbing you of your loot and xp.
after you attack them they will start attacking you back that instant. im talking about the pre-release 5 here :tongue.gif:
If it wouldn't take half the day I'd upload a video, I'd show you.
As long as you maintain "eye contact" they'll just do that shaky scream thing till you kill them.
Knockback tends to launch them in a random direction sometimes, though. So it's actually harder with a KB sword.

odd. when i attacked one even still staring at it it teleported away instantly... weird.
Best way is to dump lava at their feet, let it set for a sec, then scoop it back up. If the fire doesn't kill them, you can 1 or 2 hit them. I do this in 1.9 pre 5.
My initial problem was their habit of teleporting away, especially on death. Water makes them teleport nearly instantly, and since I've always been a tunneller, it becomes near impossible to find them. Are they on the surface? In a linked tunnel? Who knows?
Last night I came up with a tactic that seems to be working quite well. Quite some time ago I'd dug out a decent-sized cavern - basically a box shape, big enough that I could stand at one end and worry about the creepers spawning in the other.
I'd basically filled it with torches and left it until I could think of a use for it. Was thinking I might drag some animals into it, but decided it might be better for Endermen hunting.
After removing all the torches and getting blown up by creepers a few times as a result, I settled on an entrance three blocks wide, two blocks high, with fences replacing the floor blocks under the entrance (effectively making it a block and a half high). This seems to work quite well. Nothing except spiders can get through, and it's very easy to hit the mobs on the other side (while dodging the odd arrow). A side entrance with a door lets me in to collect the loot when it's safe.
For whatever reason, this also seems to prevent endermen from teleporting. I look at them, they teleport over, then... just group up in front of the fences, same as all the other mobs, and stay there until dead.
The main downside is that creepers are prone to getting hit by skeletons, which causes them to run over to the trigger-happy bone heads and explode. I've started to coat the entrance to the hall with obsidian, though I'm convinced a blast that occurred while I was slapping down the first layer destroyed some of those blocks... :ohmy.gif:

You're just jealous 'cause the voices only talk to me
Blazes drop the prime ingredient for the potion that more or less makes you invincible against them. Because you always know where they appear, it's simple enough to trap and slaughter them at your leisure. You'll only have difficulty killing the first few, assuming you've managed to find netherwart.
Endermen are not "dangerous", but only spawn where creepers and skeletons spawn (and those are dangerous, arguably more so then blazes). Furthermore, they can be hard to find, and difficult to kill without them going *poof* at the last second.

You know it's a bug snow golems don't melt in the Nether and it will be fixed.
I still think endermen are extremely easy to kill. I have a harder time with spider jockeys. I'm living in the End on one of my worlds now and I kill endermen with stone swords every day.
