I'm scared too, man. Change is always scary. But I couldn't be happier that Minecraft is finally having some actual GAME elements added to it. And you know what? If you don't like it, take up modding and make it truly become your game. Minecraft is literally the best game to start with when it comes to modding. You want new stairs? There's a mod for that. You want new weapons? There's about a thousand mods for that. Nobody said you had to play vanilla, use the new features, or play by the rules. Minecraft is not your game, but with a few mods it CAN be.
I quit caring about your post after you said "No one played magic after the 6th edition rules change". Seriously. 6th edition was in 1999, it is currently 2011 and we've had 7 core sets, as well as 20+ expansions. Your argument is invalid.
That being said, I really hope this was sarcasm. It's a little hard to pick up on via text.
I caught the sarcasm, but honestly, would the game benefit so much more from glowstone stairs? I do find it hilarious how many people have gotten wrapped up in the combat side of things. "It's too easy, it should be harder." It reminds me of another game, it was about interactive stories you could play over months with a persistent character but if you were to play it now, one might suppose so much more that it is about fighting monsters and collecting "phat lewt" (that and reading rules).
The glorious nature of Minecraft lies in simplicity. Blocking is an example of a useless feature. It has absolutely no purpose in Minecraft because the combat just isn't complex enough to warrant it. Now, if this were Dark Souls, it would be an invaluable and necessary feature, but it isn't. Then again, Minecraft isn't about combating monsters. You can do that just as you can dig up the earth.
These comments are all speculation by people with too much time on the internet, clogging up the server as they rapidly hammer the refresh button and sigh disgustedly that there isn't a new update for them to protest. This **** is borne from boredom people, not legitimate concern.
everyone has to realize people are ADD, they are so self centered on how the game should function they do not even realize that the next update will add more content that they will like, and the old update can disappear forever when they never engage in any of the past updates content.
It is plain and simple, Minecraft is going to change, forever, when you joined the game it was stated as such, now when you see change and you don't like it, its all of a sudden the end of the world?
how about you try re directing your attention tot he fact that your old game is still there, and if you never want to interact with the new content, disregard the objects, drop em in a hole, throw em in some lava, you can live about your world in peace without brewing potions or fighting dragons in some unknown dimension.
anyone whom disagrees has a serious need to adjust to change, your sour over the fact that they added SOME stuff to your game, yet you can still play the game just the same as before.
I mean why can't a sandbox game incorporate RPG like features? what is the matter with adding features to a FEATURE GAME?????????????????????????????? Sandbox gaming is about all of the features you can get lost in, not about limiting those features to only terraforming and point and click combat, if that was the case I would have never played minecraft, any game has a point and click combat system, its boring, why don't people see that stat mashing is boring all your doing is math, I need more than mindless block laying and mathematical calamity in my world, if your easily entertained with those features thats nice, but when I sandbox I expect endless features that include a Role Play Feature, just like in real life.

why do people have to post such rude comments on threads like this as if no one is entitled to an opinion. whats with all the mojang/notch white knighting?
if you disagree, politely state your opinion or don't post. not that complicated. please don't flame the owner of the thread.
complaining about someones thread is EXACTLY the same as complaining about minecraft. so don't be a hypocrite please.

I'm a Notch worshipper. Anyone who doesn't worship Notch in a blinded manner boarding on fascism is a Nazi. And we all know Nazis are never right.

you could just as easily not read those rude comments and its like they never happened.
no harm no foul.
Why does White knighting have any negative connotation?
"Whats with all the Mojang/Notch white knighting?"
hmm maybe because your on the Minecraft Forum?
if you are truly offended by rude comments made on a forum, you may want to consider abandoning the internet altogether .

Villagers need to turn into zombies once killed by a zombie... March 24th 2012
This has turned into the lulziest Internet thread I've ever read. :laugh.gif: The not getting the sarcasm even after I said it was sarcasm, the complaining about complainers, everything.
I did err, however. I didn't realize that my little brother's facebook conversation had turned from actual planned features that will be in the game to just the usual nonsense about what players want to see. I apologize for wasting everyone's time due to my failure to read the conversation more carefully.
With that having been said, the thing that I'm still most butthurt about would be stats and achievements, followed closely by the hunger and experience bars. Those are orders of magnitude more annoying to me than any of the 1.9 stuff.
Morons are morons and ryan is certainly one of those. ignore him. at best tell him to **** himself, and then, because he is obviously a 5 year old whos soft parents bought him cod, go tell him about books, teach him to read, hand him a dictionary and show him the definition of ****. Or just beat him over the head with it. Then do the same to his friend.
Dude, that's my little brother that you're talking about! I can't be that mean to him.
I caught the sarcasm, but honestly, would the game benefit so much more from glowstone stairs?
Actually, YES. Then you could make big-ass glowy staircases. Or use them as substitute slopes. A while back, I was working on a project that could have really really really used some yellow stairs or yellow slopes. I didn't particularly care what the exact material was - glowstone, gold, yellow wool, whatever, as long as it was yellow and I could make some damn stairs with it. I ultimately had to compromise and settle for sandstone slabs, which weren't even yellow. I'm pleased with the results and I think it's pretty cool that I made a literal giant sandcastle in a sandbox game, but it's not the solid gold castle or glow-in-the-dark castle that I would have preferred to make. A game that has always been about building whatever you want should focus its development attention on improving the ability of players to actually build whatever they want.

I am no master builder, so I won't profess to know the desires of those with better creativity than I (I found out you could put a wooden pressure plate on a fence post from a screenshot of someone else's work). Thus I know I'm not the best yardstick against which to measure block demand for the creative side. However, just like many popular mods add six new kinds of ore and the respective tools to match, I just don't see the improvement in duplicates. I have stairs. They may not match the artwork I put up on the wall, but they exist. I'm more annoyed by things like, wooden slabs that don't burn and require a pickax to break correctly. I'm hoping when the feature freeze is over and the full release arrives, it will be a nice clean slate on which to work.
Personally I think it would be better to see a more creative feature like the ability to paint on wood. But if at that time we get additional stairs I'll be fine with it.

Well, SOME people actually care about how their creations look.

Lol... *cough* ... right...
If you want to build, play creative. If you don't like NPC's, turn them off. If you don't like potions, don't make them.
Thanks.

Yes, adding a bazillion weapons would make it like WoW.
