.but... you could add some shops or a blacksmith/innkeeper to npc villages and it wouldn't be a set goal at all.

Why does it when people work hard to send their thoughts to people for this? Make me happy Notch I mean come on seriously work a little then put them over here and they will look and oh wow. People come on don't hurt that's for this the dragons and the mining like hah? What? Really yeah like anyways for the love of Notch I mean mining, mowing, hunting mobs? Yeah no way.
Tale of kingdoms is like the hotdog and the mustard coach bring it on Notch yeah like this sword in the basement check for the sky. I know that it's hard but sometimes you need to focus on what you dream about let it download it'll come easier.
Thanks for reading open up the gator like this that and on Monday.
Later you will see then it will know not what for when be it taught like good men.
I watched the digital diamond today and fell in love, but I agree that is not what Vanilla minecraft needs. I like the idea of chopping wood because I need to build with it, not because I need to sell it to watch a building appear out of nowhere.
Thats what I was thinking. The only reason I would want it in minecraft is because I cant mod my mac >.>

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
(I'm not sure but I think trying to read your post gave me an acid flashback..)
You don't understand. Notch is working on many many things at once. The people who made that mod only had to focus on that and only that. They weren't making biomes, mobs, new worlds, AND npcs at the same time. Give notch a break.
I think Tale of Kingdoms itself shouldn't be in-game, but the coding and architecture should. Jeb's buildings look like crap, and the village generation is all messed up. On the other hand, Tale of Kingdoms mod has awesome buildings and great generation, plus its NPC's don't look like crap AND actually do stuff with you.
Yes, Minecraft has seen extremely small changes. It hasn't even begun taking a step toward what's possible. I mean, look at the very first thing we saw of the game, it's practically identical to the current version!
The scope of his vision is, truly, too small. Besides, it's not as if people making mods like to keep things under wrap until they're sure they have something good, whereas Mojang have been almost completely transparent since the game began development, even including unfinished things in their updates because a partial feature is better than no feature.
Lastly, more effort on the game instead of working on whatever seems like fun? Have you thought to take a step back and look at what Minecraft has become, and why? Minecraft became an enormous success in part because Notch dared to be so progressive about it, not sticking to a rigid design schedule and taking detours to throw in silly little things that would eventually become full-blown features.
Like the creeper. That wasn't intentional. That was just a silly thing that happened on its own. But oh no, that wasn't part of the grand design doc, so creepers should clearly be removed from the game...!
Well after reading through your sarcasm I'll respond by saying I am excited that Notch does awesome little fun things and isn't too rigid or predictable in his game design. He deserves a ton of credit for all the unique ideas he has put into Minecraft. However, it is frustrating when his coding whims change so quickly. The kingdoms mod really showed me what is possible in vanilla Minecraft with a strong goal and focused effort.
I think small asides that bring value like new monsters or animal breeding make a lot of sense but often it seems like some of the big features he adds don't get finished before he has moved on to the next idea. I'm not sure what the point of adding NPCs and villages is when he seems to have no intent to make them serve a purpose for months (or years?) I think his time would be better spent working on stuff that players could really use in the game.
Most of Mojang's new hires appear to be working on ports and other games rather than supporting the base game. I think we can all agree that there are many systems in Minecraft that feel like a rough first iteration. Seems like an odd choice to me since so few developers "strike gold" like Mojang did! Had it been my idea that was such a huge hit I would have thrown every resource I could muster at polishing it! Notch still seems to treat the game like the hobby project it started as which of course is his prerogative. :smile.gif:
You don't understand. Notch is working on many many things at once. The people who made that mod only had to focus on that and only that. They weren't making biomes, mobs, new worlds, AND npcs at the same time. Give notch a break.
I do understand. It is Notch's choice to work on 12 different aspects of the game at the same time. If he were to focus on less aspects of the game he would have time to complete the ones he started properly instead of leaving them half implemented while he works on mushroom cows. :smile.gif:
Anyways, about half the community thinks Minecraft is already too RPG. If they add this, the forums will flip. Seriously. The whole point of minecraft is to be simple, yet complex. Take pistons/redstone for example. You can do so much, such as calculators and hidden doors. But mods are specific, especially this one, which adds way too many RPG elements into the game. They don't fit in vanilla minecraft. The is not meant to be story based. The way minecraft is now is fine.
I'm one of those who thinks Mojang is too focused on RPG elements. But I actually think that NPC merchants would fit in very well with what we like to think of as vanilla Minecraft. Minecraft (to me personally) isn't about going out and fighting mobs and earning experience and achieving levels. It's about gathering resources and crafting them into something incredible. In my opionion, NPC merchants fit's into that very well. I'd love to be able to sell or trade excess stone or dirt or wood for things I need. To me, that would just add to the experience. I'm not interested in a progression game of levels and class skills and a major focus on combat. Why? Because I can get those things from practically every other game out there already! There are already thousands of games out there that are focused on those things. The ONLY reason I play Minecraft is because it is finally something different from the tens of thousands of other games that were all developed by the same cloned developer.
If I can say one good thing about Notch, it's that he had the balls to put out something that was almost totally different from everything else on the market. By that, we know that Notch is not a Cylon :smile.gif:
Yeah. Quite a few mods make Mojang look bad, but without Mojang, there would not be any of those mods. I think of Minecraft Vanilla like Modloader- The massively important base and supports for many amazing mods.
What people seem to be forgetting is the fact that Minecraft is moddable. A lot of games these days are restricting and not even allowing mods for their games for whatever selfish reason. Just because Notch doesn't go a certain direction that a mod suggests, people go up in arms over it. This is ridiculous. Mods are great because they give people the chance to show their own creativity into adding game content, and it gives players additional choices to how they want to play Minecraft. Just because Mojang doesn't decide to use a certain mod to add features to the game it isn't the end of the world. The mod is still legit for players to download and try out on their own.
I prefer vanilla Minecraft myself, but I would be a fool to scoff at any mod. Many devs of big games out there got their start modding games. It is a shame the industry is making effort to suppress mods for games, as they add even more value to the game being purchased.
Let's don't justify those decisions by going the other extreme direction and suppressing the games that do encourage mods. Because that will only hurt things, as well. If you feel your mod is awesome, then let people know about it, and make it easy and safe for them to get access. Do not act like it is the end-all and be-all of Minecraft. Because it is far from being that. I think we have many years yet to enjoy new ideas that this game will give us. With many different ways to experience.

In the real world, you stick your head in the dirt to hide from problems.
In Minecraft, you stick your head in the dirt to find problems.

Where is the mod support in <insert latest Call of Duty for PC game here>, and Space, Pirates & Zombies (I love this game!)
I am sure there are plenty of other games, indie or otherwise that don't have it, I wish I could name more to prove my point a little better.
Minecraft doesn't have official modding support, there is no API. Notch simply doesn't disapprove of the modding community. If the MCP team vaporized, the modding community would go with it ... at least until another team took its place. My point is, this isn't TES with a fully featured construction set and scripting language. A lot of work goes into modding Minecraft, and Notch hasn't exactly made it easy. He just hasn't taken additional steps to prevent it.
Mojang develops the game as a whole. They work on low-level engine stuff, they fix bugs, and try to add in all of the content of the game.
The modders come, use that framework, and add in new content that is 100% visible to the player. They focus on one aspect, and develop it to the extreme, creating the illusion that they have accomplished a lot more than mojang has. Since all the effort was put into this one feature, the result is much more complex than what mojang would make. People then take that as the standard for what should be done.
The thing is, what makes a good mod rarely makes a good addition to vanilla minecraft. They place a disproportionate amount of focus on their new feature, since they are modding the game to be about this feature. Mojang isn't adding a feature to be the focus of the game, they add it to be a part of the whole. They could have gone in and made potions into this huge deal that you work with throughout the entire game, gathering various ingredients from all over the world, like in oblivion. If I was making a potion mod, that is probably the approach I would take. However, that is not how potions should work in the context of the vanilla game. It serves as a late-game, rare bonus. Useful, worth getting, opens up lots of new possibilities, but is not shaking the foundation of the gameplay.
Same thing with villages. They are meant to be a feature integrated into the whole. As such, they are relatively small, have simple but well-designed houses, and are fairly low-key. A tale of a kingdom makes a mod with NPCs, and it becomes the central focus of the gameplay. That is perfectly fine for a mod, but not at all what would be good for the core game. A new feature is not meant to become the focus of the game, so comparing it to a mod where it is the focus is a poor comparison.
What people seem to be forgetting is the fact that Minecraft is moddable. A lot of games these days are restricting and not even allowing mods for their games for whatever selfish reason.
Where are these 'lots' of games that aren't moddable?

BBCode Render failed due to reaching MaxNestingDepth(80) for Tag: spoiler
1. That isn't how it works.
2. Mojang has specifically endorsed modding, and actively encourages people to make mods.
3. Go and ask Bethesda for the "game code" to Oblivion and see what they tell you...
