Great start, fantastic ideas, getting close to the end, lets throw out a bunch of random crap that didn't tie back into the original plan. Horrible ending. Major disappointment. Overall a good show, but tainted.
I'm getting the same feeling from this game. It is going to be missing so much, we'll have to rely on modders to do it right.

What DLC is
Would you like the other half of your pie?
I know its ***** and moan. But a MONTH to polish code. Sounds like he just wanted a vacation to get ready for release.
Programmers tend to lose interest in their projects near the end and focus on new ones. When will a vendor put out a complete product to people?
it's hardly the end, there will be continued updates and adding of features after the initial release, this has been cited a number of times...
I'm find with the features that are in game. Just build on what is there already. Like this whole "dragon" and "end" dimension .. what a waste of time.
That new dimension should have been a whole new addon. Instead of wasting time on that crap they could have added more stuff in the regular world and nether. More blocks, more crafting items.
Once it is released - it is supposed to be finished. I'm tired of developers never finishing their work. "Oh we can always add more stuff later".
You guys don't really understand it, do you? This isn't him 'taking time off' or 'losing interest', this is him working to make the game the best it can be for the official release. I will say this, quit complaining about things that aren't coming out how or as fast as you want them, that's why we're here in the first place. He's adding the things that he wanted to add from the beginning, but he has a time restriction so he can only do so much before the game's released. As of now he's debugging and optimizing, which means smoother, more complete gameplay. He will get back to adding new feature and finishing features after MineCon. If you're not a programer/game developer, don't critique those who are, as you have no idea how hard some things are.

Don't release it until you are DONE.
I pitty you. you don't understand the joys of having a game update and finding new with in the old, to have cool things you can use with what you already know.
Thats said, notch said he never plans to stop minecraft updates, in his mind, it will never be done. He shouldn't of released it when it was "done" the game wouldn't of been as good, nor made as much money if he did that.
I know its ***** and moan. But a MONTH to polish code. Sounds like he just wanted a vacation to get ready for release.
Personally I think he was tired of everyone making fun of how Botch releases horribly buggy updates for his game, so he actually wants to knock out a lot of bugs. As I understand this is actually fairly typical for a game development cycle.
Also, I enjoyed the ending of Battlestar Galactica.
they have added more stuff to the nether, such as the fortresses and mobs. Same for the normal world, Strongholds yielding new blocks etc.
The problem with saying 'don't release it until it's finished' is that without a clear cut perception of exactly what the game was going to be from the very outset then it may never get released, people get new ideas and change their minds all the time. It's not like Notch was handed a brief saying 'make this product this way'.
Yes and I'm applaud it.. Nether already is in there. Now continue to work on it and make it even more challenging.
Like the mine shafts and strongholds were awesome idea. But there are so few rewards and blocks that make a different.. whats the point of exploring them for wood, coal, steel and diamonds? There needs to be more rare ores with rare uses for rare crafting.
Mining needs to be fun where you could strike "gold" figuratively and it would be like "YES!" You hadn't seen that ore in weeks. Now I can make my jewel encrusted bathtub! Or some other thing.
Terraria is a good benchmark for what needs to be done. I mean it doesnt get any plainer then that. A wide variety of craftable objects, a wife variety of minable objects. Lots of monsters and weapons and events. Rare loot with special abilities that you cannot craft. Different types of crafting stations.
Its almost there.. but the priorities are wrong at this point. That is only my opinion which can be dismissed.
People seem to be under the impressions that a game MUST have ALL of its intended features by the end of the release. Even though that may be the case for console games and what not (where they can't be constantly updated), that's OBVIOUSLY not the case for this game, be realistic.
If you really want to justify Notch finishing features after the game is released, call them expansions. Nuff said.
This game feels the same thing - aimlessly doing whatever without a plan.
Well, regardless of what you think about BSG - I must say that the spirit of ridiculous craziness is what I like about Minecraft.
I like its aimless meandering quality. I like that every new update brings with it something totally random and unexpected. It has never been too disciplined in the way content was added. That's what makes it fun!

I dont expect everything. I just mean its been at least 6 months since i've played the game and some of the most fundamental things about the game "mining and crafting" have not been improved upon, except maybe brewing and enchanting which are welcome. But more ORE and more smaller objects that are NOT craftable by using blocks are needed. I mean you can only make so many huge buildings. What about the smaller stuff?
BTW your texture pack looks cool I think I'm going to try it out.

The problem is that if you add new ores they have to DO something. I've played with plenty of mods that add new blocks and tons of complicated crafting recipes for "end game" content. Frankly, I don't find any of them to be fun. It just gets to be pointlessly complex.
If you like Terraria so much then go play Terraria. I don't like Terraria and don't want to see Minecraft become any more like it than it already is. A bit of inspiration is fine, but you seem to think Minecraft would be better if they just followed along exactly with everything Terraria has done.

I loved the way BSG ended. If Minecraft can do that well, I will be extremely happy.
I do, however, agree with the scatter-brained approach to adding content to the game. It is pretty obvious that Notch doesn't have a plan, never had a plan, and wouldn't know what to do with a plan if he had one. He's just tinkering and adding a mishmash of stuff that really doesn't seem to fit into the game unless you happen to be as scatter-brained as the developer.
I'm amazed on how many people forget this is still BETA! TBH who knows what will be added, Removed, or just changed on final release.... Either way, Sit back, Enjoy WHAT PART OF THE GAME YOU LIKE and ignore the rest thats not completed yet.
I personally love it all and sad on unfinished things but meh, I just go build random crap and do redstone competitions with friends meantime. Worst comes to worst Ill do another castle lol
It's more of a soft grand opening (Oceans 13 reference). We are just the lucky previewers who paid to get in early and watch the setup and give advice. You will still be getting updates -- while premium members (like myself) get extra DLC -- and the real grand opening could happen quite a while after Minecon.
There are plenty of games that have done this, mostly MMO's, but I wouldn't doubt that Minecraft is going to keep a semi-steady pace of updates after it's "full" release.

Personally I like the quirky things that just seem thrown into Minecraft. It's part of the character of the game. Part of it's charm. Besides, when the game goes full release there will still be updates too.
One thing that does concern me is the possibility of DLCs. Updates are great but having to pay again for them... not so much. Plus it would seriously complicate things for online play. Or else it would have to be of single player only which would be pointless for me.

I agree whole heartedly
I never go spelunking or adventuring anymore, because half the time I get more recourses in just finding a stronghold or monster cave than I actualy get clearing the stronghold or cave. Also what is with the best reward you get being iron or a saddle? From what I can tell diamonds is the top coveted item in theis game, put those in a chest. (or maybe a 1 time use super enchantment to use on a piece of gear rather than playing enchant-and-lose with the enchantment table all day)
I absolutely agree that BSG was great for 3 seasons and then went to hell. It suffered a bad case of "kudzu plot", where the showrunners created mysteries without knowing the answers, and preferred to create new mysteries to distract the audience from the old ones instead of actually answering them. The show collapsed under the weight of its own mythology so badly that the writers literally couldn't think of a better ending than "Earth wasn't really Earth, God did everything, and the characters are angels". Ask any good writer and they'll tell you that that is SHITTY WRITING.
Notch isn't making the same mistakes, but he's making similar ones. He's getting carried away with every idea that pops into his head, and introduces new code and new bugs before he has debugged the extant code.
I bet that when the final version is released, they STILL won't have obsidian stairs. Nope, ender dragons were more important :dry.gif:

The last episode was good, but it left a whole bunch of opened loopholes that were not explained away.
Then you realize they were just making it up as they were going along with no plan.
That is what is disappointing.
