Well, I don't like to start arguments, but I should point out that not all of the new features can be played without. For example, just because you don't want to use the 1.8 Oceans doesn't mean you won't wind up spawning on a tiny, resource-less island and have to reset the game five or six times with a new seed each time to avoid spawning as such.
As I said on another thread, I have no issue with the ideas in concept, but I don't think they're implemented particularly well, and a lot of them come across as half-finished ideas that were implemented prematurely rather than being withheld for streamlining.

Do you know how wildly unlikely it is that you'd have to 'restart 5 or 6 times' to avoid getting ocean worlds? They're nowhere near that common. Be realistic.
The only feature I can think of that can't be avoided is hunger/food, but why would you want to? It makes survival more challenging.

I'm being realistic. Maybe I just have **** luck, but I've been pretty consistent with having at least three restarts required for every single new game.

I'd consider that lucky. I haven't gotten an ocean world since 1.8pre1. I do, fairly often, get spawned on the 'edges' of continents, with an ocean nearby, but also plenty of land.

You call it lucky now, but when you start having it happen.... yeah, it's not fun having to sail for hours on end to reach someplace with resources. And that's assuming you're even lucky enough to have trees on your spawn island. If not.... well, be ready to make like Michael Phelps.

What sort of resources do you mean? With the exception of animals, you can obtain most of the resources on an island. Just dig down. You can use wheat and fish for food.
Personally, I LOVE spawning on a small island in the middle of a vast ocean. I can pretend I'm a castaway. It makes survival more challenging and more fun, in my opinion.

Just wish there were palm trees. :smile.gif:
Well, more often than not I have access to little, if any, wood; as a result, digging down does me no good at all; with no wood, I have no tools, which makes for a trifecta of suckitude: I dig through rock at a snail's pace, I can't make anything to speed it up, and I don't even get resources out of it.

Yeah, if there's no trees you're screwed. But if there's even one tree, you're good. Trees drop usually more than one sapling. On the world I'm playing right now, I started on an island with one tree, and now there's a forest.

Like I said, I have **** luck, so I rarely have any trees at all.
Beyond that, I'm a Survival Builder (meaning don't even think of uttering the word "Creative" as a suggestion to me), so I generally prefer to have enough space to do something big.
Now, That last bit is subjective based on play style, but it's an objective fact that spawning as such remains to be a severe annoyance for me and most likely for a lot of people like me, so I felt it was worth a mention.
Did you know that every feature that has been added to this game since I've started playing(which is before the Halloween updated last year). There are people that says that <insert feature> has ruined the game. Nothing will change. Sorry I should say nothing will be removed but only more features will be added that people claim arnt minecraft.
Uhhh to answer your question no mojang hasn't gone to far, they haven't gone far enough.
Why would you complain about a feature, that not only makes your life easier, but its completely optional and doesn't take away from the game. Ive been playing Minecraft since Alpha, and besides the Nether, there hasn't been one update that I didn't like, do I complain about it? Nope, I just don't go to the Nether.
The only thing in Minecraft that ever "went too far" is beds.
Beds are for pussies and made the the majority of the only real challenge in Minecraft skip-able on the first night and every reoccurring night after that.
What is there to worry about surviving when you can just sleep through every bit of worry the game brings to your attention.
Even in the "oh so scary Nether" bring some cobble, make a tunnel, problem solved.
The survival part of Minecraft is way to easily avoided.
This can also be said when the nethar was released:
So now notch is adding a alter dimansion that has ghosts... yes ghosts and zombie pigmen.
You get there by mining diamond to get obsidian and light it to create a magic portal to a hellish world this update goes to far.
I think you just need to get used to it, its a change yes but it doesnt mean that everything new and different is automaticly bad it adds more options more variety and more stuff to do dragons are a good adition and they look really good.
Stop getting scared from changes the game isnt fully released yet and people want the alpha back.
PEOPLE OUT FREACKING BECAUSE GRAMMER OF WHY ERROR ARE 난 잘 읽이던데?
wow i wonder if im the only one who can understand his words.
i think that if notch created enderim first than add nether, would you guys so mad about nether thinking
superlarge flying white crying thingy that shoot fireball dose not fit minecraft? i think notch is doing very well
with making the full version of mincraft.
(im mobile user sorry for such a horrible grammer, too lazy to fix...)
you guys are hilarious. I'm not against the new updates, but I'm a bit concerned that so much work has been put into something that will feel akward, instead of the stuff he said he would add. I really don't get how people have troll/flame wars over a topic that asks for PERSONAL opinions. If you really have problems towards another persons opinion, **** off and get a life :l
You don't like it? Turn off structures.
And please, for your own good, have an actual argument, not a "Herp derp, I'm an entitled brat. I whine about unfinshed features ."
Get a life.
lol you sure do know how to read don't you?
1- I CLEARLY stated I was in favor of strongholds.
2- Turning off structures does NOTHING besides taking away Netherruins, Strongholds, Abandoned mines, and Villages(ALL of which are great).
3-This is coming from a person who has a crappy skin for an avatar with "like a boss" written across it. You also double post hate comments on peoples profiles, who also have more than 3 times the reputation of you. Your post on 11 sounds more like an entitled brat more than this.
Consider yourself a loser and get a life, or **** off. it's bitches like you that ruin the forums more than anything with your hate messages towards others opinions that you don't like.
Nothing has been removed, only added. You can still build blocks, you can still survive the night. Anything you don't want to use, you don't have too.

It is officially. No new features and small chance of change in concept due to the FEATURE FREEZE :l Only new thing will be bug fixes.
